Goldfinger had finally been usurped by FRWL. I'm happy with that. I just wish GoldenEye was higher.

Now there is a passive-aggressive stance if I ever saw one. Happy if I make the top 100 myself.

How about a mod elimination game? That would be fun. And dangerous.

    Goldfinger wasn't high up enough

Goldfinger was 10th. It was far too high. The only place it should have been was 22nd.

I think most people would agree that Goldfinger deserves to be 2nd more than it does 22nd...

@sirseanisbond, surprisingly enough, you'll find there aren't as many crazy GF fans around these parts as you'd think. I, for one, find it to be heavily overrated and quite the borefest, and would most certainly rank it near #22 than I would #2.

GF is slightly higher than where it should be IMO but the top 3 films are EXACTLY the same as my rankings so i am very satisfied with the outcome....

Now,if only i could rescue Sanchez and kick Dr No up the arse in my other game..*strokes chin thoughtfully*...

In my personal rankings, Goldfinger is 24th (yes, despite the fact that it won't exist for another year and a half, I already know Bond 24 will be better than Goldfinger), but I realistically know that 99% of the Bond community hates DAD the most, so I accept that as last, but still want Goldfinger to be just above it.

I'm surprised TMWTGG was higher. To me, that's the worst Bond ever. Bad jokes, poor writing. Goodnight...ugh.

    Good night, @Murdock.

How can I sleep? Nothing but problems. Problems...problems. *looks at pretty Russian girls in my Room.* ;)
  • Here we have a comparison of the elimination game results and the average results posted in the Bond movie ranking thread, kindly compiled by our dear @Thunderfinger.

    1. From Russia With Love (UP TWO)
    2. Casino Royale (DOWN ONE)
    3. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (DOWN ONE)
    4. Skyfall (UP ONE)
    5. Licence to Kill (UP FOUR)
    6. The Living Daylights (UP FOUR)
    7. Dr. No (UP ONE)
    8. For Your Eyes Only (UP THREE)
    9. GoldenEye (DOWN TWO)
    10. Goldfinger (DOWN SIX)
    11. The Spy Who Loved Me (DOWN FIVE)
    12. Thunderball (SAME)
    13. Octopussy (UP FOUR)
    14. Live and Let Die (DOWN ONE)
    15. The World Is Not Enough (UP ONE)
    16. Quantum of Solace (DOWN ONE)
    17. Tomorrow Never Dies (UP ONE)
    18. You Only Live Twice (DOWN FOUR)
    19. A View To A Kill (UP ONE)
    20. The Man with the Golden Gun (DOWN ONE)
    21. Diamonds Are Forever (SAME)
    22. Moonraker (SAME)
    23. Die Another Day (SAME)

The most obvious conclusion that can be drawn is that the harder-edged films such as TLD, LTK, and FYEO did significantly better, and the more over-the-top films, like GF and TSWLM, really took a beating. The top three and the basement (19-23)were also nearly identical on both lists.

I noticed that, too. The top three and bottom five have changed places somewhat ever since I started keeping track of the average ranking, but were always those eight films. Only film to stay firmly put in its place has been DAD, bravo well done Tamahori!

And indeed, TLD,LTK FYEO, TSWLM and GF surprised us. Either by cheating or because the voters in this game have not been identical to the posters in the ranking thread.
  • @Thunderfinger, I'd imagine that it's because the more hardcore fans favor TLD, LTK, and FYEO, and the are going to participate repeatedly here, while anybody can drop in the rankings thread and show some to GF & TSWLM, while not wanting to show up here and vote over and over.

You are most definititely right about that. Nothing is absolute.

    Except DAD.

I don't consider TSWLM to be too over the top. Aside from Jaws, maybe the Liparus, it's pretty tame compared to DAD, DAF, MR.

Atlantis is a bit over the top, but it's Bond, that's normal. ;)

I saw FRWL last night and I still think that the movie is a little bit overrated :(

Just my opinion though. I personally rate the movies from 2 to 7 more than FRWL.
