    RE: CR

Is it higher/lower than your own ratings?

    Lower. Mine= 141/150 (94%)- MI6 Community= 87.65%.

What is your favourite category/element/thing in the film?

Every element is superb, but I particularly like the cinematography and editing choices.

What surprised you the most, while reading other peoples ratings?

The 150/150 score some gave it. It's not a perfect film.

    AVTAK

    1. Direction: 7
    2. Screenplay: 6
    3. Script: 6 - I like how it incorporates of GF.
    4. Plot: 8 - The plot is a (micro)chip off the old block, but not too bad.
    5. Action: 6 - There's not much that interests me here. I do like the snowboard getaway.
    6. Main Villain: 8 - I quite like Zorin, but he could've been better utilized.
    7. Main Bond Girl: 5 - Obviously stunning, but not a very interesting character.
    8. Bond: 7
    9. Sets: 7 - I love Zorin's blimp interior design, allowing May Day to provide 'drinks'.
    10. Music: 7 - Great theme song, not so great decisions regarding the PTS music.
    11. Cinematography: 7
    12. Fleming: 6

    13. Supporting Cast: 3 - I like Grace Jones and Patrick MacNee, but who else was there?
    14. Main Titles: 4 - Girls skiing in DayGlo? Okay, I'll go with it.
    15. Plausibility: 3
    16. Pace: 3
    17. Editing: 3
    18. Tilt: 3 - Not bad, I've grown to appreciate it moore over the years.

When i begins as Bond fan i have love and hate thing with AVTAK and OHMSS. The higher rank of it have possible something to do with the feeling there finaly make a GF movie that work after the failers of GF, TB and Moonraker. I like fact Roger Moore is old Bond and see some of those other older chacters.

The plot work for me and whyle in GF iam bored that Bond stay long on place at GF lair , in AVTAK iam happy big part playing on the horse place. There is also more action/varioution with use of France and America and i like the humor something i also don't like much from GF.

The music is step back after Octopussy, like music of DAF be step back too, but also it work better for me then in GF, TB or Moonraker. Not so good as TMWTGG. Title song is oke, fine this time the use in rest of the score work better.

It be shame there did not much with Jenny Flex, that's stop me for giving the suporting cast more. Patrick Macnee be DAF/LTK felix / Mathis of AVTAK. One scene from CR where Bond and Mathis talk at the hotel room remember me to AVTAK where Tibbet and Bond talk outside of the room.

Again there whant to make a Goldfinger, things i dislike in GF work better in my opnion in AVTAK. So AVTAK be my GF. Movie rank 5/23!. Second favorite Roger Moore Bond movie after FYEO (4/23).

Man....wish I'd stuck around for this thread like I planned to! Hopefully I can jump in for AVTAK and keep on track here through SF. :-bd

    1. Direction- 8 (John Glen never fails to impress!)
    2. Screenplay- 8
    3. Script- 9 (incredibly memorable dialogue, in my opinion, especially between Zorin and 007)
    4. Plot - 7 (recycled from Goldfinger, so slightly down on originality, but nonetheless thrilling)
    5. Action- 6 (decent in places such as the PTS and the Eiffel Tower, phenomenal at the Golden Gate Bridge and the mine shaft, and awful in the others, particularly the fistfight in the packaging room)
    6. Main Villain- 10 (One of the greatest Bond villains of all time!)
    7. Main Bond Girl- 8 (However ditzy she may come across as, she's gorgeous!)
    8. Bond- 8 (despite the older age, I've always thought Roger maintained his greatness in AVTAK; the age only affected his action scenes, but nothing else!)
    9. Sets- 5 (nothing overly impressive beyond the mine shaft)
    10. Music- 10 (Magnificent soundtrack from Barry- the "Snow Job" track is one of my favorites!)
    11. Cinematography- 6 (AVTAK comes across as a little bit drab in regard to location work and cinematography; it's like there's this huge gray shadow that is cast over the movie itself)
    12. Fleming N/A (I'm not exactly a Fleming buff; I've only read one full novel, which was Moonraker, so I can't necessarily comment on this one!)

    13. Supporting Cast- 5 (there are some truly awesome side characters in AVTAK, such as Tibbett, Scarpine, Dr. Mortner, and even May Day to an extent)
    14. Main Titles- 5 (merely for the Duran Duran title song!)
    15. Plausibility- 3 (seems like a fitting number for a plot that could happen but probably wouldn't)
    16. Pace- 4 (it's over before I know it!)
    17. Editing - 2 (not terrific by any means, especially with the fistfights in the packaging room and at Stacey's house)
    18. Tilt- 5 (it's been a personal favorite of mine for years- the first I ever owned on DVD!)

    109/140

    78%

I'm shocked at the rating, frankly. I like AVTAK much more than 78 percent! I suppose I have more tilt than I initially imagined, hahaha. :-c

Thanks to all that have participated. 17 one of our highest numbers. :-)

    So, you ready?

    Drum-roll please -

    72.22%

Well I never. AVTAK has surprised me. Let's take a look at where AVTAK ends up in our provisional rankings -

    Casino Royale - 87.85%
    GoldenEye - 78.94%
    Dr No- 78.7%
    The Living Daylights - 78.61%
    Goldfinger - 77.23%
    Skyfall - 75.4%
    A View To A Kill - 72.22%
    Moonraker - 67.4%
The Man With The Golden Gun - 61.33%
    Diamonds Are Forever - 56.05%

Not to shabby! Only just behind Skyfall. Colour me impressed. And 5% up on Moonraker.

And now time for some actual discussion:

Is it higher/lower than your own ratings?

Personal % - 66. Community % - 72.22. Higher. Though I'm glad. Such love for AVTAK warms me heart.

What is your favourite category/element/thing in the film?

    Defiantly the music.

What surprised you the most, while reading other peoples ratings?

Hmm, tricky one this... Glen's directing. I thought it was rather tired, but others disagree.

Feel free to comment! Another Bond film coming soon...

Is it higher/lower than your own ratings?

For sure lower than my own ratings, but that was to be expected, because there's a high level of nostalgia and fond memories of my younger days involved with AVTAK, so that always helps for a boost beyond the facts and figures, hahaha. :)

What is your favourite category/element/thing in the film?

I'd say either the soundtrack, Roger Moore, or Max Zorin. There's a lot to love!

What surprised you the most, while reading other peoples ratings?

I'm surprised that people enjoyed the cinematography as much as they did, in all honesty. Outside of the landmark locations like the Eiffel Tower and the Golden Gate Bridge, everything else is a little lackluster, especially in comparison to what came before in FYEO and OP.

Is it higher/lower than your own ratings?

Lower, naturally, but it is still a very strong score (86% as opposed to 72%).

What is your favourite category/element/thing in the film?

So much to love, but I will say the villains and music. Zorin and Mayday make for a surprisingly fantastic duo.

What surprised you the most, while reading other peoples ratings?

The amount of people who gave generous scores. I don't think one person gave AVTAK below 60%, which is delightful.

I'm pleased with that...i watched AVTAK last Saturday night for the first time in ages and thoroughly enjoyed it.

It keeps its place at #11 on my list.

I like AVTAK but I do consider it one of the weakest films overall. Walken does a good job as Zorin but Moore is probably at his most lechy here. They stick him in a leather jacket at one point which gives him an "old geezer" quality.

In FYEO he politely turns down Bibi's advances because she's too young, in AVTAK at least two of the girls he beds don't look that much older.
It was his last hurrah so he had to try and shag whoever he could get his hands on !!

Personally,i'm surprised he didnt shag Tibbett,Lt Hip,Scarpene and even Zorin himself...go out with a bang as they say.

i love the way he was sitting there after taking his ski boots off trying to look sexy in his little white socks he had on.....bless.....and i couldnt see a toilet on board.

Takes the glamour away :-\" he he .....
  • edited April 2014 Posts: 11,189
I don't think he FEELS like Bond in that film. In FYEO and OP he still seems like an older gentleman spy that could conceivably still operate in the field . In View he's more like his smarmy self a lot of the time and would have retired some years before.
