Watched FYEO again on blu ray last night. Still not fond of the bond girl in this one.....yuck.

Melina is an acquired taste, I will admit! She's better than many Bond girls because she is actually competent and can do something worthy of assistance to Bond, but yeah, I agree, sometimes she can be pretty annoying, and she's not overly attractive either. I'm sure some people find her attractive, but for me, she's not grade A material, haha!

    Live and Let Die

Always a classic! It had taken a slight dip with me in recent viewings, because of how some of the action seemed dissatisfying, but I'm delighted to say that it has risen again with this latest watch! It's simply too good to resist! Lots of vibrant color and wild entertainment to this one; an all-around very stylish Bond movie!

    Skyfall.
Brilliant piece of cinema and Craig's Best Bond film in my humble opinion. :)

Her best bit is when she fires the crossbow! She's the supreme antithesis of Tiffany Case...

Watched 'Skyfall' for my sixth time (five in theaters, once on blu-ray) tonight, and it's always such a wonderful film to watch. I'll be honest: I got out of the theater at that midnight release feeling quite underwhelmed and let down, but the more viewings I gave it, the better.

In the old days it didn't take repeated viewings to *LOVE* a Bond movie.
    Just sayin'.

@chrisisall, congratulations. I waited four years for the film and it just didn't live up to my expectations, so sue me. I enjoy it now, and that's all that matters.

I've no doubt that I will settle into enjoying it nearly as much as QOS, but why do I have to COME TO LIKE IT?
No more true Bond fans direct Bond movies, I conjure.

That's a damn poor argument. Some films warrant revisiting, to understand it more and to pick up things you may have missed previously. I dare someone to pick up all the themes and complexities of films like Citizen Kane or Inception on a first viewing. In addition, sometimes it takes maturity to fully understand films, and it is quite plausible to feel completely different about a film in your old age compared to what you thought of it as a youth. Our opinions change along with the world and times around us.
  • I enjoyed Skyfall also after a second viewing. Had to take in another, in order to fully understand all that had had occured (and confirmation on the Dench profanity of all things). Maybe I enjoyed it more on the second time than the third, but the point is, I got a whole lot more fulfillment out of it with a subsequent viewing after first watching

Yes, I had to revisit Blade Runner a number of times as a kid and as an adult to explore the depth of my initial fascination with it and to periodically re-discover my love of the film. Strange though, I love the movie now as much as when I first saw it....
    LOL
OTOH, TLD took me reading the Fleming novels and a second viewing to fully appreciate.

@chrisisall, good, so you know how it is. I don't see why you feel you have the power to tell people how a film comes to be loved.

You're right. I just had a very emotional reaction to it- perhaps not the best moment to come up with a thoughtful post.

Hahaha! Excellent point! Compare that with Tiffany's inability to fire a machine gun without falling off the side of an oil rig, haha!

On another note, the last Bond movie I watched was Moonraker

Moonraker is simply a mediocre Bond movie with me. I've tried to find it more enjoyable than "50%", you might say, but seriously, that's about all reaches with me, just half-way every time! There are parts I like and parts I dislike, which seems really obvious and rather foolish to say, but literally, that sums up Moonraker for me. I go between thinking it's a marvelous spectacle of pure Bondism to an embarrasing cheeseball of corny children's fantasy in an instant, which should show how much it swings back and forth between trying to take itself seriously and trying to play it up for laughs and fun. All in all, not as awful as people make it out to be, but not Bond's best outing of the '70s either, or Roger Moore's for that matter.

    Up next.......Diamonds Are Forever!
  • I managed to find time to watch Octopussy a day or two ago. And what needs to be said on this ?

It's not a bad release overall, but the humor simply goes too far every now and again but there are some classic moments - "No ma'am, I'm with the economy tour" - being one such example, and it has a great pre credits sequence, and when Moore does decide to play it serious, despite the age, it actually works

Louis Jourdan is a very good adversary, there is plenty to get involved in, and plenty of interesting characters, but it's hardly a favorite release of mine. But a damn sight better than the awful View to a Kill that followed it

SkyFall, License to Kill, and GoldenEye

Not a whole lot of time for reviews on all three, so I'll just post the rankings for these in my current Bondathon. (I had to stray away from the novel order briefly so that I could watch these three with some friends last night)

    Current Bondathon Rankings
    1. GoldenEye
    2. License to Kill
    3. SkyFall
    4. Live and Let Die
    5. Casino Royale
    6. Moonraker

They were both on Sky Modern Greats last night, one after the other...

    The Living Daylights

What can Isay about the Bond film I love more than all others? Dalton is just pefection as Bond. He's got the right look, manerisms and he gives off all the right vibes, he just is the living embodiment of Flemings Bond in this film.

    &

    The World Is Not Enough

Now this surprised me, I can't recall the last time I watched TWINE and ejoyed it as much. It felt so good (so Bond) to hear the theme in the boat chase. Maybe i'm going soft, but I did enjoy this film. Who'd have thought? Not me.

    Diamonds Are Forever

A gem that sparkles as bright as its title! A favorite of mine, without the shadow of a doubt! Everything lines up to make this outing an enjoyable two-hour thriller! Villains (camp or not!), soundtrack, locations, 007, dialogue, it all comes together nicely!

    1. GoldenEye
    2. License to Kill
    3. SkyFall

I'm currently going through all the Bonds on BluRay, just finished The Spy Who Loved Me. I only owned half the series on DVD, so it's been a while since I've seen some of the installments.
  • I have owned them all on Laser Disc and DVD so getting them on Blu was a hard choice since they had no new extras

What happened to me was I owned two volumes of the Ultimate DVD set (1-20) and I asked for the remaining two for Christmas. My parents told me that the BOND50 set on BluRay cost lest than those two volumes since they were out of print. Not complaining lol
  • Just watched World is not enough
    currently watching Living daylights
gotta love that sky 007 channel :)

Casino Royale. Seeing it again, only short time after Skyfall, I must say that I still hold it as Craig's best Bond film so far. It has stood the test of time. Let's see how well Skyfall ages in six years.

What I like about Casino Royale are the exotic locations known to belong to the franchise, the action and the whole Casino setting. Feels very Bondian and I find it has the same amount of humor (maybe even more so) as Skyfall has. Bond in CR feels more relaxed and at ease for most part of the film, compared to Skyfall. Both are great additions to the franchise. I just prefer CR's style , settings and side characters over SF.

I think CR probably has a slightly stronger story with more of an overall basis on Fleming so, the more I think about it, the more I feel CR is the better of the two.

Quantum could go either way but I suspect it will always be seen as the "filler" between CR and SF.
