    Quantum Of Solace
I had forgotten how bad the editing during actions scenes was. Quantum Of Solace is also the first Bond that i've watched since Spectre, it's its clear how much Craig's Bond has evolved.

    Goldfinger
I get it, objectively, this is THE Bond movie, full of iconic images. It's one Bond that everyone knows of. If this was the only Bond you'd seen, then you could blag being a fan by just saying that it was your favourite. But even with it's iconic aspects, Goldfinger isn't my cup of tea.

Since watching Spectre I have a new found appreciation for Craig, Major.

Tell me, has QoS risen up your rankings on the back of Spectre?

I don't plan on ranking the films until later in the year, but off the top of my head, no, I don't think so. Spectre is the first film where I look at Craig, and see Bond (the same goes for the film itself). This might sound selfish, but now that I have the Bond film from Craig, that I wanted all the way back in 2005, I hope that Craig will be back for Bond #25.

QOS has moved up considerably in my ranking. It has been as low as No 20. Now it's No 13. And it might even go up again to 12 or even 11.

QOS becomes more re-watchable with time. Because the more you see it, the less the frantic editing is bothering.
And to be honest, I always liked Camille a lot, in fact because of QOS Olga Kurylenko has become one of my favourite actresses. She is my guilty pleasure actress. So many great movies: Oblivion, The November Man, Erased, Max Payne, Centurion, Hitman, I actually collect her movies even.

The score of QOS is bloody great (not the horrifying theme song).

In fact now that I write this, I spontaneously decided to make QOS the next entry in Bondathon.

I hope so to. In part, I don't see anyone who could be Bond in the near future, and with Spectre - I was ambivalent about Craig coming back - I would like him to do a fifth.

Spectre was the follow up to Casino Royale that I thought QoS would be. (If that makes any sense!)

    It's TV advert-style editing

Thank you for that, I've seen it back then on German TV but I didn't have it in my collection. Now I can add it. Bloody great :D

I didn't know Brosnan was that good at accents. ;)

I know what you mean. I was never happy with the reboot of the series, so am glad that it is now in the past, with Craig playing an experienced, and more confidant Bond in Spectre. To be honest, I now regret not seeing Spectre on the big screen.

    From Russia With Love

Continuing on my Fleming inspired Bond-a-thon -

From probably the weakest Bond film, Diamonds Are Forever - certainly the weakest Connery effort - to the best, From Russia With Love. It's a perfect James Bond film. Right from the start it is an unadulterated joy; the locations are stunning and claustrophobic, all at the same time; Young's direction is assured and exquisite, full of effortless chic; Hunt's editing is kinetic; the screenplay is full of danger, intrigue, romance and complexity, put together with care and class, and it's enlivened by the peerless cast, most notably, of course, Sean Connery as the masterful, impeccable James Bond. Plus Connery has the finest suits, bar none, in the Bondian canon.

I think From Russia With Love, alongside Dr. No, is the only films I can watch almost constantly – i.e. every two months or so, the films need some time to “breathe”, I find, if I watch them too much, they become stale, and I don't want that to happen to my beloved Bond pictures! Those two films have an air of seduction, of danger, they feel fresh and new, despite being over 50 years old.

This marks the start of the golden trio of both the Bond novels and the Bond films, the triumvirate of From Russia With Love, Dr. No and Goldfinger, unparalleled in the films certainly, and maybe even the books; although Casino Royale, Live and Let Die and Moonraker, and Majesty's, You Only Live Twice and Golden Gun, could give it a run for its money.

A couple of subtle moments to From Russia With Love -

Kronsteen thinks of smoking, yet he doesn't out of deference to the aura of Blofeld, in the Venice yacht scene.

Morenzy touched Klebb's arm, in order to guide her into his office, but stops as she recoils, on Spectre Island.

Tatiana mouths something, distractedly, after Bond gives her her passport. I always imagine she trying to pronounce “Somerset” - in Fleming's original Tatiana, endearingly, says “Siomerset”.

Worst Bit – The camp hand wave by Connery as he's saying goodbye to the film at the end of the movie.

Best Bit – Bond and Grant's fight to the death. Superb.

    Royale's Ranking

From Russia With Love - 10/10
    Casino Royale - 9.5
Live and Let Die - 7.5
    Moonraker - 7

    The World Is Not Enough

A very enjoyable Bond film, some some good action sequences (the thames chase, the parahawks and the caviar factory). I'm now ranking the films at this time, but if I were, TWINE would secure a top 10 spot.

The Man With The Golden Gun

Christopher Lee brings his own style of menace, and even the the lyrics aren't subtle, I like the title track. And the duels (both Rodney vs Scaramanga and Bond vs Scaramanga) are full of tension. But the rest of the film is... off, especially Bond, where Moore's performance is all over the map.

    Dr No

This is seriously one of the best films I have ever seen! It is best described as a secession of perfect scenes which follow from start to finish. IMO, this film is even better than FRWL. All the characters in Dr No are just perfect. Dr No is a perfect villian, played very straight by Joseph Wiseman. There is so many perfect scenes. It was such a stroke of genius, starting off the franchise with this low key carribean mystery. There is a terribly underrated scene where Bond and Honey talk about Honey's past, the setting of that scene and the dialogue is simply stunning. It's one of the best scenes in the franchise! Honey rider is a fascinating character. Quarrel is one of the best allies to Bond, Bond is so affected by his death he mentions it. There's is another great underrated bit where Bond says under his breathe "It's alright, I'm scared too." What a brilliant bit of dialogue, and proof that the character was vulnerable from the begining. There is a scene where Bond has sex with the girl, and he knows she is a wrong'un and she is getting ready whilst he is reflected in the mirror. Its little things like that which make this film so great. The filmmakers took advantage of everything at their disposal to improve the story. I haven't even spoken about the scene with Dent. This is where Bond is at his best. He outsmarts the enemy.
There is a hilarious bit where Bond starts ordering Dr No's men around, "take these of, will you". And they do exactly what he says!

There is so much to love in this film, it truly is the best Bond film ever made.

    10/10

DN is amazing and it is the first EON bond film so that makes it extra special. I would put it in my top 7 easily.

The day that this is no longer considered a bottom bond film is the day that I take myself into the back yard and end myself.

The day that this is no longer considered a bottom five bottom is the day that I take myself into the back yard and end myself.

That day was in 2002 when DAD was a huge success all over the world and got quite good reviews.
I believe only with the arrival of Craig that DAD slowly but steadily went down the rankings.

But I'm very glad you didn't end yourself back then. :)

That's the problem, I enjoyed it back then. Forgive me, I was still young. :P

Yeah, I liked Tomb Raider about the same time. I thought Tomb Raider was amazing back then. Now watching a scene of that film is enough to make me gag. Except for the one where Jolie gets out of the bath and you catch glimpse of sideboob, I can still watch that OK.

omg that side boob was so instrumental in my coming of age lol im so happy you mentioned it.plus it had 007 in it so its got that going for it at least.

I recently got a flat screen TV for my Mom's birthday. We tested it watching GoldenEye. The closest I'll ever see it in a cinematic setting. It was a Blast in every sense of the word. Can't go wrong with GoldenEye. :-bd

Watched MR last night. It really is one of the most gorgeous and visually arresting Bond films. Prune some of the silliness from the back half of the film and replace Lois Chiles with a real actress, and MR is a borderline classic.

And the Brazilian waterfalls/pyramid setting, decorated by Drax's lovelies and enrobed in Barry's score, is particularly so. Bond films are known for being visually and aurally beautiful, but I don't know that that sequence in MR has ever been topped.
