The song Sophie Marceau does not want you to hear

I could have placed this in "Music" I guess, but I think it fits this section better. This song by French singer Julien Clerc created a polemic in France back in 1997 when it was released, two years before TWINE, and Sophie Marceau was furious about being mention in it. The French speakers among you will know why, I will explain later for the others, but first I thought you could listen to it (and see if you can guess why):

    Here are the lyrics:

    Assez de ces machins pointus,
    De tout c'qui blesse
    De tout c'qui tue,
    Couteaux, coupe-coupe et balles perdues,
    Assez de ces machins pointus...
    Assez, assez, assez, assez.

Assez de ces machins qui griffent,
Crampons de foot, bijoux Van Cleef,
    Tonton-macoutes, scouts à canifs,
Assez de ces machins qui griffent...
    Assez, assez, assez, assez.

    Refrain:
Faut des ronds, faut des courbes,
    Des marchands d'marrons, rue Lecourbe.
    Faut des ballons, des cerceaux
Et les seins de Sophie Marceau...
    Assez, assez, assez, assez...

Assez de ces machins qui piquent,
    Serpents-pythons et porc-épics,
    Du hérisson microscopique,
Assez de ces machins qui piquent...
    Assez, assez, assez, assez...

    {Refrain}

    Bon, Cupidon est dispensé.
    Les abeilles et les crustacés
OK, mais pas les chiens dressés,
Les pit-bulls et les verres cassés,
Les cutters des cours de lycée,
    Les harponneurs de cétacés,
Tout ce qui blesse, ooh ! c'est assez.
    Effacez tout, recommencez...

Ah, it's talking about her lovely rounded breasts!

Yes. And she wanted to sue him for this. But 1)he was very nice about hers and 2)it's not like Sophie Marceau didn't show them in pretty much every film she played in.

Julien Clerc also makes some vague allusion to Madonna's breasts, or the way she displayed them at some point, in pointy bras.

What a hypocrite that women is, I remember all that fuss she made about Michael Apted demanding so many takes in her TWINE love scenes just because a bit of nipple showing. I'm sorry but she's just a miserable woman with double standards...mind you, nice pair of jugs though! ;)

The worst thing about it is that she was immortalized in a song. Who wouldn't want this? Especially since he is describing her as the quintessential beautiful woman. As a person, I really dislike Sophie Marceau, but I loves a few of her movies.

Thanks, Ludovico. Now, I understand :D

    Indeed, a perfectly rounded figure...

    From Google Translate:

    Enough of the sharp stuff,
    Any c'qui hurts
    Any c'qui kills
    Knives, machetes and stray bullets
Enough of the sharp stuff ...
    Enough, enough, enough, enough.

    Enough of this stuff clawing,
    Soccer cleats, jewelry Van Cleef,
    Tonton-Macoutes, Scouts knives,
Enough of those things that scratch ...
    Enough, enough, enough, enough.

    chorus:
    Be round, have curves,
    Merchants of chestnut Lecourbe street.
    Takes balls, hoops
    And Sophie Marceau's breasts ...
    Enough, enough, enough, enough ...

Enough of those things that bite,
    Pythons snakes and porcupines,
    Hedgehog microscopic
Enough of those things that bite ...
    Enough, enough, enough, enough ...

    {Chorus}

    Okay, Cupid is provided.
    Bees and crustaceans
    OK, but not trained dogs,
    Pit bulls and broken glass,
The cutters of high school courses,
    Harpoon the whale,
    Everything hurts, ooh! is enough.
    Delete all again ...

Well, it is probably because of translation, but for me it just ...
isn't Bob Dylan or Dylan Thomas, is it?

Hard to believe she got upset over this; it was a compliment. Somehow.

So Sophie got offended because of a song that complimented her? I swear, sometimes women are more fascinating that the whole of neurology at large.

And honestly, is the song lying? Heavens no. For a woman that shows them off so much, she sure is uptight about it all.

She's just begun to age now, I think. Literally it's been in the past year, two at the most. I thought she never would, she's always been stunning.

First, Julien Clerc did not ask her before the release, so I can understand she was a bit upset. We're not talking about movies seen by a few, but about lyrics that were heard on the radio by anyone...

Btw, if you think that once a woman show her breasts in a movie, then it's okay to take photo of them when you can and put them on the cover of a magazine, then I'm sorry to say you think like a paparazzi !

Second, they are not many singers more popular than Julien Clerc in France. Alain Souchon is one of them. Guess what, he sung about les "seins de Sophie Marceau" too. But it was not a single, it was not used on the radio to promote the album. And guess what, then no "controversy" about this song by a singer even more successful than Clerc. Hm, much PR about nothing then ?

But Clerc did not take pics of her. He mentioned her breasts in a very complimentary way, something any cinema critique reviewing her movies would do. And he did not use lewd terms. If someone wanted to sue him, it should be Madonna.

I would love to tell Sophie myself how much I appreciate her breasts :x

If you pause her love scene with Bond in TWINE you can make out a bare boob for about a second (not that I've ever done it of course - I'm just repeating what a friend told me).

You can see her naked in Fanfan and La fille de d'Artagnan. The second one is a much better movie imo, more fun to watch, but the former is well, more interesting for people like your friend.

Really, that friend of yours should be told about the amount of free porn on the internet, he can waste his time with that. ;)

That's different when it is a celebrity..especially if she received minimal surgery help.

:)) Well how surreal, not speaking French and having watched the video? I had no idea what it was about, but did hear her name mentioned. On seeing the thread title I thought she was in the video in a revealing manner or situation? You can imagine my disappointment! ;)

Watch every movie of her, but TWINE. She is often the only reason to watch them.

What about Catherine Deneuve? Are there any songs about her? Just curious.
  • I would write one for Virginie Ledoyen :x

Wow, this tread is more popular than most of my other. I am sure it is because, in essence, this thread is about women's sexuality when are objectified in culture and French societal attitude towards eroticism, seen of course here through the eyes of mostly non-Latin people who are looking at this through a distanced perspective. In other word, it is a deeply intellectual thread.

Forget all those dames. I shall write a song for Eva Green and serenade her with it in a way that will make Bond look like a rank amateur. :\">
