This quote by Gracian can well be repeated:

One half of the World laughs at the other, and Fools are they all.

Everything is good or everything is bad according to the votes they gain. What one pursues another persecutes. He is an in-sufferable ass that would regulate everything according to his ideas. Excellences do not depend on a single man's pleasure. So many men, so many tastes, all different. There is no defect which is not affected by some, nor need we lose heart if things please not some, for others will appreciate them. Nor need their applause turn our head, for there will surely be others to condemn. The real test of praise is the approbation of famous men and of experts in the matter. You should aim to be independent of any one vote, of any one fashion, of any one century.

    Superb! 👍

And yet I’m still the only person with Moonraker at number 1... it’s tragic! 😥😇

You have it good, Moonraker is still held in much higher regard than my favourite entry. It's cold out here when you love TWINE. [-(

@Agent_47 aha I like to think of us as the next generation of Bond fans ... a new generation where Roger’s outrageous centrifuge faces and Brosnan’s balletic rope dangling are celebrated as the pinnacle of what Bond has to offer ...

...unfortunately the rest of this new generation appear not to have been born yet, but when they are we will be gods, I tell you .... 🧐🤔👍

I appreciate the diversity in ranking. Some people on here actually get seriously upset and offended by other's evaluations of these films (not as a goof, as I assume @Mathis1 's response was, but genuinely angry); I have seen it.

You assume correct. I applaud diverse rankings, my own would probably be alien to a lot on here!
If anyone knows my list I have OHMSS first and DAD last, that was my meaning, but absolutely have no animosity towards anyone's lists. Each to his own and all that! It would be really boring if everyone agreed on here!

I certainly do @Agent_47! Though QOS ends up a bit low, I do love the TWINE, TLD,GE and TB appreciation ;)

If we did, there would be a ranking on page 1, followed by 200 pages of "+1".

Agreed. Nothing but appreciation for everyone's ranking. Every movie in this franchise is somebody's favourite and I love that about this community.

Call me a glass half full type of guy because I enjoy every Bond film, so even if something is at the bottom of my personal ranking it's still a solid entry in my books.

I agree about the variety in rankings. It's a joy to go through these pages and discover the diversity of the forum.

Something I just realised considering Bond rankings. I used to think in order to make a 'good ranking' I should include certain films in the upper region of my rankings, such as GF and CR. I also thought at least one Connery film should be in my top three to have a 'serious' ranking. So it did take me quite a while to compose an honest ranking, 100% representative of my own preferences. Maybe that's just me though.

That’s a very good point, not just in Bond rankings but life in general - it’s very difficult to be completely honest to yourself when you know there are certain expectations being placed on us. I feel guilty putting FRWL next to last!

I must try and find the time to sit down and have a good honest proper look at my posted rankings and see if I’m truly happy with them. Of course one issue I suspect we all face is that the list is likely fairly fluid depending on mood, day of the week and wind direction, particularly in the tricky middle section!

I always give an audible sigh when I look at someone's ranking and it resembles a list built with RT scores in mind.

Update! Did a mini rewatch/marathon recently and have a newfound love for Moonraker. Premise aside, we have peak cinematography, the best score, locations galore, Bassey theme, Adam’s set design - just beautifully done through and through! I do think it helps to view it for what it is: big, beautiful, over the top, absurd, elegant fun. And it never pretends to be anything else.

Seeing Moonraker's reappraisal warms my heart. I can't help but see it as a trend, a fondness for genuine visual audacity and spectacle, in the face of the monotone dirge that many similarly-scaled modern blockbusters have in terms of aesthetics. There is little of the concern for sight and sound, music, production design. Everything comes second to brand perpetuation. While that certainly was part of MR's production, there's a vibrancy to it that I feel has been lost. Compare its production design to something like Avengers: Endgame, in which the final battle takes place on a muddy digital landscape, and the rest of the set pieces take place in some variation of a parking lot (cheap for location scouting!). MR, by contrast, has its entire budget on screen and in the sound mix. A true piece of pop art, as all of the Gilbert films are.

The Bond franchise as a whole has evaded this trend, but nonetheless, revisiting MR with more knowledge about cinema, about where popular cinema would go, filmmaking in general, gives it a resonance that many of us formerly dismissed because of its "stupidity."

Thanks! I was close to putting OP on top, but Dalton's performance in TLD was too compelling to rate any lower.

I used to like TWINE (as a kid) before I knew any better, but apart from the PTS there's nothing enjoyable about it

    Thanks @Agent_47! :)

Yes, considerably @Birdleson. While I like certain aspects of it - namely its characters, golf, the DB5 and Fort Knox - I find the film's atmosphere somewhat lacking. Compared to the Caribbean, Istanbul, the Orient Express or Japan, Kentucky is rather dull. For me that is of course, it's all a matter of perspective. Never liked that barn scene either, it's just too much for me.
I pointed out before that I always thought I had to put this one as high as I could, but now I just have to be honest and admit to myself I like many other Bond films better.
But no worries, I'm one of those film fans who prefers Herzog's Nosferatu over Murnau's, so what do I know? ;)
