@barryt007 So there's a chance for TLD after all!

Here is the latest MI6Community list:

    1. CR (2912)
    2. OHMSS (2818)
    3. FRWL (2781)
    4. GF (2503)
    5. TLD (2369)
    6. DN (2236)
    7. TSWLM (2224)
    8. SF (2215)
    9. GE (2194)
    10. TB (2064)
    11. LTK (1985)
    12. FYEO (1833)
    13. SP (1663)
    14. LALD (1655)
    15. OP (1553)
    16. YOLT (1502)
    17. QOS (1403)
    18. TND (1233)
    19. TMWTGG (1128)
    20. MR (1099)
    21. DAF (1059)
    22. TWINE (1038)
    23. AVTAK (906)
    24. DAD (529)

No changes since mid-last year, aside from SF falling a few places. Spectre has remained at the same position - I think mostly because there haven't been too many new rankings, aside from a few members updating their lists twice a month :-P

    My own list:

    Favourites
    1. The Living Daylights (desptite strong competition, still holds on)
    2. Goldeneye (back in the top 3 after falling to 6. Just love it, despite the score)
    3. From Russia With Love (a masterpiece, always new directorial touches to discover on each viewing. So those who say "frwl has no faults but other bond films have more" - look at Young's attention to detail)
    4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    5. Casino Royale
    6. Dr No
    7. Octopussy (for the first time in a while, no more 6 Bonds in the top 6, due to Dr No)

    Great to watch
    8. Live and Let Die (appreciate this one a little more)
    9. Goldfinger (as per LALD)
    10. For Your Eyes Only (I enjoy this despite it being plain)
    11. Tomorrow Never Dies (Love Brosnan's performance here)
    12. Moonraker (never liked Gilbert's films but this is the most fun of the trio)
    13. The Spy Who Loved Me
    14. Diamonds Are Forever
    15. Licence to Kill

Enjoyable but can be hard to sit through
    16. A View To A Kill
    17. The Man With The Golden Gun

Have their moments but don't add up as a whole
    18. Skyfall
    19. Die Another Day
    20. You Only Live Twice (not good enough for me to overlook it's inconsistencies, unlike Octopussy)

    Hard to sit through
    21. Spectre
    22. Thunderball (as usual, unfortunatel placement but I can't stand the pacing. It would otherwise easily be top 10)
    23. Quantum of Solace
    24. The World is Enough (Drab)

As time goes on (ie as I get older), the top 2 tiers has expanded to a whopping 15 films. However the gap between the top 3 and bottom 2 tiers has widened.

I'll be interested to see where YOLT ranks for you. It used to be a film that could be as high as my Top 10, buf it has slipped over the years for me - down to #16 for now. I think it's still better than a few of the others, but just doesn't produce the same excitement as the other golden age Bond films (by that I mean the first six). Basically went from great to just good in my book.

@FoxRox have finally finished my latest ranking, if it still matters lol

the audience scores for the films on Rotten Tomatoes.

    14.) Spectre 61℅
    15.) Licence to Kill 60℅
    16.) Diamonds Are Forever 58℅
    17.) Quantum of Solace 58%

Wow. This is crazy. Connery seems to get grade inflation. And Dalton... sadface.

An opinion piece about why SF is one of the series’ best. I mostly agree, of course; it has never left my Top 5 since it came out.

@w2bond, TWINE skyrocketed because my last viewing was excellent and I’ve grown very nostalgic when it comes to that period. Many consider it a lesser entry but it was my first Bond film and together with the NF game it was the beginning of my years as a cinema enthusiast.

Therefore, I rate TWINE higher than most.

As for TLD, it has always been a favourite but I guess it has grown on me immensely. Cold War espionage is something essential to my Bond and TLD delivers that in spades. If anyone would ask me what my favourite film is, at the moment I’d probably say TLD.

Good for you. TLD never leaves my top 5 and it's only beaten to the top spot by OHMSS!

    @w2bond

It's a pretty good ranking. Biggest gripes are the low rankings of TB, SF, and QOS, but other than that not bad. A few noticeable differences from my list but that's what makes this fun!

@GoldenGun I get your points about TLD, that is why I have it at number 1 as well. I can see why some people don't like it, but I am quite fond of the Glen era despite the tone inconsistencies and bland cinematography but the action, amongst other things, makes up for it.

As for TWINE, I used to enjoy it as I grew up with Brosnan as Bond, and I can enjoy his performance in his 3 other films, but I find TWINE quite poor all round, aside from the opening.

    @FoxRox
TB is unfortunate because it's the funniest script in the series ("...she's just dead") and has many highlights, but the pacing kills it - if they trimmed half an hour it (fan edit perhaps?) it would be very high. The other two are pretty boring to be honest - I do appreciate the themes of Skyfall though, quite clever.

I know they seem low, buf if’s only because I love the films above even more. 19-24 are the only ones I have struggles with these days, and even then they have a fair amount of good stuff in them.

Some quick comments. For me, good concepts and ideas are much better than not taking any risks at all, but the execution matters just as much if not more. TWINE had brilliant ideas, and with revisions, it easily had top 10 potential. But TWINE's directing was just awful. Action didn't feel intense, the skiing didn't feel adventurous, Renard's intro didn't feel all that hellish. It's scenes were just not convincing.

Similarly, I ranked License to Kill above The Living Daylights - not because turning Bond into a crime drama with druglords was a better idea, but because it exuded Dalton's strengths better.

I'm entirely in agreement with W2Bond that if Thunderball had 20-30 minutes of underwater footage cut, it would be a top 10 candidate for me.

It is. If you swap put SF for FRWL it is my Top Six (different order).

Quite. But @FoxRox has got GF in his top three, so you must be pretty chuffed.

Thanks. I love FRWL too, but it literally has to be 8 right now because I love my Top 7 more. SF left an extremely positive impression on me when it released and it’s gotten no less enjoyable for me - unlike SP.

That is a good point. IMO Skyfall and Spectre had the opposite problem. Execution was brilliant but they were lacking good concepts and ideas (apart from the old and new thing in Skyfall)

Pretty great ranking. Top 14 are the same in a different order. TMWTGG and DAF being too high is my only big difference really.

True; Brosnan’s second and third entries got a tough deal too. I’d move those a little higher but I can understand why one would place them so low.

    Good man!

I'm 9 in agreement on the top ten. Difference being LALD -- it fluctuates from about #12 to maybe #15 or so. Looking forward to revisiting it when I start my Bondathon in a few weeks. Definitely one I've neglected in the past.

It's SF at the moment! At #10. TLD is actually fairly low down on my list. About #20 - #22.
