I couldn't see any other actress finding that perfect balance. Obviously the dubbing works to her advantage, so, without hearing it sans dubbing, it is hard to judge Ursula fairly. But on screen as presented we have the perfect Bond Girl.

    We really agree on this.

it's not my best film top 10, hence I said "now guess" ;)
  • AVTAK
    GE
    OHMSS
    DAF
    YOLT
    TMWTGG
    MR
    TLD
    TWINE
    TB

    my Top 10
    now guess....

If you flipped TLD for LTK, swapped out my 3 bottommost Bonds (DAF, TMWTGG, MR) for 3 others, and rearranged the order, that is actually my Top 10.

Would have guessed that TLD was higher in your ranking since it is a bit similar to AVTAK....

    My list so far 2016

    1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    2. From Russia with Love
    3. Casino Royale
    4. Dr No
    5. Octopussy

    6. Moonraker
    7. The Spy Who Loved Me
    8. Diamonds Are Forever
    9. Licence to Kill

    10. The Man With The Golden Gun
    11. A View To A Kill

    12. Skyfall
    13. Thunderball

    14. Quantum of Solace
    15. The World is Not Enough

    Observations
    - For the first time in a few years, Dr No breaks into the untouchable top 7 (the other two, TLD & GE, I have yet to watch)
    - Octopussy falls due to the poor location work and cinematography
    - Dr No has steadily risen over the years
    - Diamonds Are Forever is slowly falling (not because I like it less, but because other entries are rising
    - Licence to Kill, AVTAK and TWINE are steadily falling for different reasons.

Or TND or DAD or SF or SP. Arguing over nothing.

The parts that are the most "Greatest Hits" don't impact the story anyway. That opening car chase, while irksome to some, doesn't greatly decide the course of the narrative. It's a throwaway couple minutes of fun and intended as such. Let your hair down once in a while.

But the story isn't very good....more (yawn) satellites in space partly ripped from DAF. The 006 arc is interesting as is Onnatop. But the script is simply an excuse for some set pieces....unlike stronger entries in the series (that combine story with action as a secondary point and not the other way around). GE isn't original it's greatest hits all round and mediocre.

To be fair I think action often takes centre stage over plot - even in the better Bond entries. Much of the second half of OHMSS is action for example.

Also, I was watching TLD yesterday. The action in that film is a lot more memorable and entertaining than the overall smuggling plot, which is rather average and not as compelling as the likes of FRWL or even FYEO.

I do get what you mean though. GoldenEye's plot is rather messy.

Action belongs in Bond, and the action in OHMSS is really classy.

Nice list. Most of the heavy hitters are on there and there's a neat blend of most of the actors.

Me too, and it's not because I planned it. They've all had at least one phenomenal film imho.

Certainly not to fill an agenda. All six very much make the cut. Each had at least one near-perfect film, IMO.

There was a point I had all six, but TLD has dropped dramatically.

I'm experiencing something similar, but with LTK. It seems more and more like QoS, and that's not a good thing as far as I'm concerned. TLD on the other hand, is firmly in my top 10. There are plenty of problems with TLD, but I still manage to enjoy it from start to finish.

The third act of TLD can be very hard to get through, but I think the rest of the movie is excellent!

Yeah that turned out to be a nice coincidence. I didnt set out to pick one from each actor.

I like the third act in a kind of "kick back and let it unfold" kind of way. The cinematography is amazing and the score is lush. They definitely could have cut a lot out, but it never really bothers me too much.

Ah, John Barry is absolutely on FIRE in TLD! Quite possibly my favorite score
