I believe we saw footage for this game last year in December and heard it was in development for 20 months a few months ago. Now it's confirmed no word on title or plot or release date but I bet at E3 we'll know all about it.

They're putting out these games like news flashes concerning William and Kate. I'd rather have one decent Bond game every once in a while than a few attempts at a good game practically every semester. Not wild on the idea... I prefer to sit this one out and focus all my attention on Bond 23. But thanks for the alert! ;;)

I agree with our local Darth. The only decent bond game to come out of Astro.... Atrovison (or how ever you spell it) is Bloodstone mainly because it was Bazzari (or how ever you spell that.... actually why do video game companies choose weird names)

Anyway Goldeneye was crap, Bloodstone was to short & don't even mention QOS. Atrovision give the rights to some one who cares

A few more details from the shareholder's conference are now online:

  • I think whether they put out a game every year, or every 3 years- the end result will be the same: dross.

It needs a radical change of direction (no more FPS PLEASE!!!!) and a developer/publisher that actually cares about the franchise.....

Give it to Bethesda (makers of Elder Scrolls and Fallout), then we could have enough action to satisfy the FPS fanboys, and some intelligent adventuring/free roaming for people like me..... how glorious it would be....

Will any developer care about Bond, and go the extra mile to not only make a good Bond game, but a good game as if it were their own property? Naughty Dog do sterling work with their Uncharted games, but if they took ownership of the Bond licence, would they put in the same high quality work into thier Bond game, somehow I doubt it. Are we, as fans, doomed to have good Bond games, but average games.

It has happened with other franchises, who have taken on licences which were not their own...

Bethesda for example took on Fallout & Star Trek, and did very well with both (not a Trek fan, but even I enjoyed that one).

Bioware did a great job with the two Star Wars: KOTOR games, as did Pandemic with Battlefront and Republic Commando.

Sadly, the merchandising arm of Bond has always been poorly handled compared to other, lesser movies. Even my five yaer old son pointed out how there are no Bond action figures, yet there are for EVERY other movie you can think of....

OK, could this be the one that finally gets it right? I'd much rather skip this year and just have a Bond 23 tie-in in 2012.

Well 'personally' i hope they Do bring yet another Bond game out, i've enjoyed every one of them since 1999, except for 007: Racing and GoldenEye: Rogue Agent, and i love Activision's Bond games too, Quantum of Solace (was the thing that got me into been a Bond fan in the first place), i just Loved that game, Both Blood Stone and GoldenEye (2010) were fabulous games, Blood Stone was Highly underated, it was a brilliant game. So can't wait to see what this ones has to offer :D

Hopefully it'll be better than what they've been putting out since GE007 back in the 90s, but I highly doubt it. After the major disappointment that was Blood Stone, I don't see myself ever getting particularly excited about another Bond game again.

I feel like the best Bond games are the 3rd person ones so if it is that Raven one then I'm excited for it. Personally I loved Blood Stone. It could've been a lot better, but I feel like the reviews were not accurate. I hope this game can take that basic gameplay, build on that and then add in some new/varied gameplay other than the shooting and driving we got in Blood Stone.

This is an analysis I just finished writing on my blog about what makes a great Bond game. I'd love to get some feedback from fellow Bond fans.

    http://xandermarkham.blogspot.com/2011/05/blueprints-for-brilliance-james-bond.html

    Enjoy!
  • I feel like whoever has the rights or whatever to make a 007 game will automatically put less effort into it, simply for the fact that it's a Bond game and is going to sell well regardless of whether or not it's crap.

With that in mind, why would a gaming company spend more money making the game longer and better, when they can spend just the minimum necessary amount and still get approximately the same return they would have otherwise? It isn't some new title that has to prove itself with good gameplay - it'll just sell with the James Bond name on it.

I hope I'm pleasantly surprised... I never played Bloodstone or the new Goldeneye (since I never bothered to buy any of the most recent generation of consoles to play them on :p ) but honestly from what I've heard and seen they both look uninspired. Though like I said I haven't played them first hand really to know. If something good does come out it might tempt me to actually allot some precious spending money on a new console, instead of gin and old watches #-O

Oh and for God's sake stop making them homogenized T rated crap. No, I don't want a M rated Bond game being a constant rain of body parts a la Gears of War, but I'm sick of corny, puerile dialogue and excessively toned down violence. Like at a level halfway between the Splinter Cell games and some recent generic, reasonably realistic war game would be about right to me. I appreciated the use of actual gun names in Everything or Nothing too...

I've liked all the Bond games that have come out since "Goldeneye" in the 90's, with the exception of "Tomorrow Never Dies" and "Rouge Agent". I loved "Blood Stone" and am looking forward to this new game. I do agree though, they don't need to release a Bond game every year; it could become old as fast as CoD has.

The difference is that with Bond they have enough opportunities to really vary the gameplay - something that's tougher to do with CoD. I really want to see a game that involves stealth, some free roam and good mechanics on all of the staples of the franchise like gun fights and driving.

I'd love to see all of that in a new Bond game as well. Sadly, though, it doesn't seem like it's ever going to happen. Aside from Rare's GE007 back in the 1990s, there hasn't been a single quality Bond game to date, although EON flirted with bringing the franchise back to respectability.

Until they start incorporating elements like free roam, stealth, and basically anything that makes the player feel like they're actually controlling the action (even the supposed "car chases" in BloodStone weren't so much chases as they were exercises of keeping up with the target for a predetermined amount of time), the Bond gaming franchise is never going to regain any part of its former glory from the 1990s.

Did you all hear the rumours that the 2011 Bond game will be Risico that was cancelled back in 2009?

Do you have any links to back that up @JamesBond? From what I can see a lot of it's just guess work and will likely not come to fruition.

We may get confirmation during E3 though, which will be held next week, as to what this year's Bond title will be.

BloodStone was quite good, but I didn't like the GEWii remake - As everyone here I'd hate to see movie remakes of past Bond films, and this also stands with video games : Brosnan is *the* Bond in GE, no-one else than him will satisfy me.

But I agree with the general consensus here - GE007 is the best Bond video game. I quite liked Agent Under Fire and Everything Or Nothing. The rest is pretty much rubbish.

i believe EA games taking over the making of James bond games is better than Activision!
The title isn't interesting, the graphics are unrealistic and the stories are a little bit stupid! i mean in bloodstone he traveled like around the world and visited a lot of countries which never happened before in a James bond story!

who remembers night fire and Everything or Nothing? they were amazing to play and not boring!

and one more thing, Activision really missed up the soundtrack and the James bond theme! i just hope EA takes control over gaming.

I certainly hope they won't waste "Risico" as a video game title.

my problems with the Bond games post Goldeneye haven't been the actual campaigns or story modes - because for the most part, i've found them all to be quite satisfying.. some more than others obviously... i think the biggest problem with the Bond games is it's lack of replay value / multiplayer features...

Goldeneye back in the day, set the standard for FPS, and multiplayer action, to which all games since have been measured... everyone was trying to copy the magic of Goldeneye... but now, the new standards are that of the Halo and COD franchises.. and all Bond has been trying to do is emulate those styles - THAT is what i believe to be their biggest flaw...

These games are just trying to copy eachother... and while I believe there is only so much you can do with a FPS multiplayer - there is so much lore that the Bond franchise can play off of, yet they refuse to - instead going to usual (ho-hum) red vs blue / terrorists vs good route.. with little to no reference to Bond at all.... it's like playing a Beta of COD...

what they need to do is expand on the lore... i've said it a bunch, but why not some levels inspired by the 50 years of films?..

    - Dr No's facility
    - Fort Knox
    - Palmyra
    - Blofeld's Volcano Lair
    - Piz Gloria
    - San Monique
    - Scaramanga's Island/Fun House
    - Stromberg's Boat or Atlantis
    - Drax's Moonraker Lunar Base
    - The Mines by the San Andreas fault (from AVTAK)
    - Gibraltar
    - Sanchez's Cocaine Plant
    - the Goldeneye base in Cuba
    - Carver's News Station
    - the Caviar Factory
    - Grave's Ice Palace
    - the Madagascar Construction Yard - or the Casino Royale
    - Perla De Las Lunas

imagine the fun of experiencing those locations as playable multiplayer levels - it's not like it can't be done.... and doing so, as your favorite Bond allies and villains... this is an element that i have missed since Goldeneye - one that they need to bring back.. and one that the developers could make money off of, by releasing them in various downloadable packs.....

sorry this is so long... but the problem with Bond games today, is that they are too worried about what others are doing, and trying to emulate that - instead staying within themselves and creating something unique and fun..... the Ghostbusters video game did just that, and that turned out to be a blast to play..

The problem with this, @haserot, is that only Daniel Craig can be Bond in such Bond game... and IMO, I wouldn't want to rewrite the entire first 20 films as if Craig was the only Bond in the franchise. But as for playing famous Bond allies and villains I am all up for it !! :-bd

@haserot only meant in terms of multiplayer though so no re-write for any of the films is needed, just the maps from those films for the multiplayer mode along with all the characters from all the films.

@Samuel... exactly..... ideally, in a perfect world, it would be nice if you choose to play as Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan, or Craig in a multiplayer.... Goldeneye tried to do this back in the day, and even advertised being able to play as the classic Bonds - as they showed a screen cap of Connery in his white tux... but they ran into licensing issues i believe, and had to remove those actors from the game..... how it differs using Connery's likeness as a character from using Richard Kiel as Jaws - I don't know... legal issues like that aren't my specialty lol...

But yes - an expansive multiplayer, that plays off 50 years of Bond lore would be fun.. not only with levels.. but with weapons.... imagine being able to use the Moonraker laser or Golden Gun again... why not a capture the flag-like game mode, in which your team has to retrieve, arm, and then use the Goldeneye weapon on the opposing team's base... or in even in a Die Another Day inspired level (*shudders*), being able to use the Icarus laser to wipe out enemies (much like the hammer of dawn in Gears).... just little things like that could make the experience so much more fun, and memorable than a standard shooter multiplayer..
