It's strongly implied that Costigan is a father, a sort of posthumous one-up that he has over Sullivan.

    Yeah but it's never determined.

    Perhaps
Sullivan's inability to perform as seen in one of the scenes may have something to do with it.

I read up on it a bit online and it seems they hint at the possibilities of:
Sullivan being impotent, or something I never thought of, Sullivan actually being gay and marrying her to hide the fact.

Same here. Still, the best gag in the movie, which I didn't notice before, was the look one of the henchmen gave Catwoman when she let out a long mewl. Twice. Anyway, the cast seemed to have a great time filming the movie, and the bomb scene is still as hilarious as ever.

I thank you for posting the above clip. I watched it. It was hard to get through and my tears were raining on my iPad. But it is beautiful and heartwarming anyway.

    The Mummy (2017)

I had a total blast watching this film. Tom Cruise on the top of his game once more, with a very charismatic and intense performance, mixed this time with some Sir Rog laid-back one liners and eyebrows raising - the first couple of times Cruise started cracking some one-liners in the middle of tense moments took me off guard, but I soon got used to a more comical Cruise performance (which is night and day what was advertised in the trailers). The rest of the cast were damn good, especially the very sexyful Sofia Boutella, the hilarious Jake Johnson and the ever-so entertaining and charismatic Russell Crowe. The action, as usual in a Tom Cruise flick, was top-notch in quality, though it featured way more CGI than in the recent M:I films with Cruise. I really liked how the action didn't stop from the 1st scene to the very last scene, so I was actually shocked when the end credits rolled, as the film went by in a flash. I hope they'll make more films from this 'Dark Universe', as I very much enjoyed the 2 hours I spent with Tom Cruise and co.

@DaltonCraig007, happy to hear you enjoyed it! I'll gladly check it out once it's available digitally, I'm sure.

As for me, I'm now watching 'John Wick: Chapter 2' for the second time since yesterday. Can't be helped.

I just watched BATMAN yesterday. I love when he says "I'll BASH HIM BRUTALLY!"
So many great lines: "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!"

    I love this film.

The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009)
    InojvU8.jpg

I just finished this action thriller, a remake of a 1974 film (which I’ve not seen). This one stars Denzel Washington as Walter Garber, former chief transportation officer for the MTA. He has recently been demoted to lowly train dispatcher on account of allegedly taking a bribe. One day a subway car is hijacked by a smooth talking criminal only known as Ryder (John Travolta), and Garber’s skills and experience become critically important to communicating with the perpetrator. Ryder’s demands are quite simple - $10m in 1 hr or hostages are killed every minute after that.

Late veteran director Tony Scott keeps it tense, but his direction of the action sequences is a bit hyper kinetic in that DAD quick cut manner, and there is poor use of shaky cam in places as well. He is much better coordinating the dialogue exchanges between Travolta’s Ryder and Washington’s Garber, which are first class and make the film. Denzel is brilliant as always and completely loses himself in the role of a confused, in over his head dispatcher seeking redemption. Travolta hams it up like no tomorrow as he’s wont to do in these situations, & is a pleasure to watch. There are a lot of witty exchanges and head fakes by both characters as they test each other out psychologically. Occasionally the mano a mano tension is interrupted (or conversely is sometimes accentuated) by James Gandolfini as the rotund Mayor and the always excellent John Turturro as a hostage negotiator, but ultimately this is the Denzel/Travolta show and it’s a great one.

The frenetic nature of NYC is nicely captured in this film, although not quite as nicely as in Die Hard 3.

While i have no problem with the Pelham remake i would very much recommend that @bondjames and anyone else check out the 1974 original. It is a better film in almost every way. Very 70's in its pacing and visual style (1970's movies very rarely paint New York in a good light) its much grittier and downbeat than the remake but no less thrilling. The performances are superb, in particular Martin Balsum, Hector Elizondo Walther Matthau and the mighty Robert Shaw as the gang leader. Tarantino has always said how much this film was an influence on him. Check out the gangs names. Something Tarantino openly re-used for Resevoir Dogs.

Great film about mobs and vegas. Great story, performances and direction from the master himself Scorsese. Glad to see the goodfellas tone hit again.

    Live by night
Massively underrated mobster film with Ben affleck from last year. I enjoyed it in theatres and I'm pleased to say it holds up on the second viewing. It's like The Godfather but not as good but still pretty good as a modern day attempt at the same type of film. Beautifully shot and fast paced.

    Hidden figures
I wasn't expecting to like this film but it was surprisingly well directed, edited, and acted. It was entertaining throughout and an insight into the inequality of the past.

    Wonder Woman (2017)

Great fun, and finally a DC film that mostly gets it right and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Gal Gadot makes a stunning Wonder Woman. Her innocent charm is endearing and she does action and humour very well. I must admit I did fall a little bit in love with her...!

She also has great chemistry with a very good Chris Pine.

Action is mostly top notch especially her charge across no mans land and the various fight scenes. The final battle is let down by some shoddy special effects but the sheer goodwill of the film makes it not too bothersome.

My only gripe with the film is it's tendency to be horribly PC. The bunch of mercenaries who help Wonder Woman are a laughably multicultural lot and it just came across as patronising to me.

But overall the film has a good heart and it's hugely enjoyable.

The last movie I watched was TND which I watched again yesterday. I decided to watch both TND and TWINE again.

Before that, (and aside from Spectre) I think that "Lion" was the last film that I watched. That is truly a great movie.

I find this movie to be very underrated. More often than not I come across people who flat out hate this movie and I don't understand why. I laugh at the funny parts and the action is quite thrilling. I enjoy this every time I watch it.

@QsAssistant, I agree that, of all the movies to upset yourself over, that definitely isn't one of them. Not the greatest thing I'll ever see by any stretch of the imagination, but there's been times that I've seen it on TV (a lot, actually) and put it on as background while I did something else. The matador scene is cool.

@0BradyM0Bondfanatic7, I'm not really upset over it, I just don't get why it has so much hate. I know it's not the greatest movie ever but I have fun with it. To me it's just one of those movies that ends up leaving me feeling good by the end.

@QsAssistant, I wasn't saying you were upset about it, I was saying that the over-critical people you were referring to were getting upset over something that was strange to have that reaction over. It's just a fun popcorn movie to me, pretty harmless. I think we both agree on that front.

    'THE ULTIMATE HAMMER COLLECTION' MARATHON

    ultimatehammerhorror_2.gif

I bought this box-set because it contains a few films I hadn't been able to find on DVD yet. About half of the 21 film selection was already a part of my home "videothèque" though. I watched them all over the past few days. I would have added films like THE VAMPIRE LOVERS and FRANKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED myself, not to mention THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN and DR. JEKYL AND SISTER HYDE, but overall, this is a fine collection.

    1) SHE

    (+) Cushing, Lee, Andress, adventure
(-) Perhaps a little too ambitious from time to time in terms of sets

    2) THE NANNY

(+) Great tension and wonderful acting by Bette Davis
(-) The kid is annoying, just annoying

    3) DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS

(+) Lee, great score, fantastic mood
(-) Andrew Keir as Father Sandor is no substitute for Cushing as Van Helsing

    4) THE PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES

(+) A precursor to many later zombie films, André Morell is great
(-) The make-up is not always that good or convincing

    5) RASPUTIN THE MAD MONK

(+) Lee is outrageous and loud and decadent and deliciously filthy
(-) Sometimes, Lee is too loud

    6) THE REPTILE

(+) Some creepy moments, not in a 'scary' way but rather in an uncomfortable way
    (-) Paper-thin plot

    7) THE WITCHES

(+) Joan Fontaine gives a good performance
(-) The story is only mildly capable of holding my interest

    8) ONE MILLION YEARS B.C.

(+) Sweet Raquel Welch, lovely Ray Harryhausen effects
(-) Yeah, well, not a lot of story here, right? Mostly just ugly men grunting.

    9) THE VIKING QUEEN

(+) Lovely sets, for what little the budget allowed them to create
(-) Not exactly the best Roman "epic" ever made...

    10) FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN

(+) Cushing, in one the very best Hammer Frankenstein films of them all, great story
    (-) /

    11) QUATERMASS AND THE PIT

(+) Great science fiction, a good performance from Andrew Keir as Quatermass (replacing Brian Donlevy), wonderful mood and some scary vibes
    (-) /

    12) THE VENGEANCE OF SHE

    (+) Lucious Olga Schoberová
    (-) No Ursula...

    13) THE DEVIL RIDES OUT

(+) Lee, Charles Gray, a powerful and scary bit of devil worshipping
    (-) /

    14) PREHISTORIC WOMEN

(+) Martine Beswick in few clothes
(-) Completely unbelievable story, even for someone who can take a lot of fantasy, like me

    15) SCARS OF DRACULA

    (+) Some genuine Stoker moments
(-) Little continuity with previous instalments and a bit of a silly premise too

    16) THE HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN

(+) Ralph Bates is a charming and witty Victor Frankenstein
    (-) Peter Cushing is better

    17) BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB

(+) Veronica Carlson and some gory moments towards the climax
(-) Overall, a muddled and strange plot

    18) STRAIGHT ON TILL MORNING

(+) Somewhat experimental, intriguing hippy version of Psycho
(-) Rita Tushingham annoys the hell out of me

    19) FEAR IN THE NIGHT

(+) A beautiful Judy Geeson plus Ralph Bates, Peter Cushing and Joan Collins
(-) The "big reveal" is a disappointment

    20) DEMONS OF THE MIND

    (+) Good acting
    (-) Uninteresting albeit complicated story

    21) TO THE DEVIL A DAUGHTER

(+) Lee, a beautiful Nastassja Kinski, some daring orgy shots, good satanic urban horror
(-) Kinski was 15 when she went full frontal for this film... rather discomforting bit of trivia

@DarthDimi, you monster, you. I honestly don't know how the likes of you or @DaltonCraig007 run through movies like you do. I adore cinema, but I lack the kind of unrelenting appetite you both do. If I had it, I wouldn't have such a massive list of need-to-see films. I've got to make each viewing a big event, and have to be in the right mood for it, so at times I go weeks without watching anything.
