    I will always say it
Tim Dalton in OHMSS, the role needed an actor as good as him (the series finest??) to fully realise how great the story was, Lazenby is incredible considering he never acted before...but Dalton in that story would have been the end of it
  • If Dalton was in OHMSS it would probably be my favourite Bond film.

I think Moore should've been in Diamonds Are Forever. I would say Lazenby but it was suited to Moore.

Skyfall could've been a good final film with Brosnan. It seems like it's written for an older Bond.

Are there other threads like this? The idea just seems similar.

    Oh well...

Put Moore in DAF, Dalton in TSWLM, and Craig in OHMSS.

That might sound bizarre, but I always wondered how a OHMSS with Moore would have been like and how it would have influenced Moore's tenure as Bond.

    Timothy Dalton in QoS

Daniel Craig in From Russia with Love/Dr No. Really his Bond and Connery's Bond aren't much different . Watching Dr no/ FRWL yesterday , Connery is pretty badass and a cold bastard like Craig's bond. Too bad the gadgets and OTT stories ruined Connery's character.

I disagree about Dalts in OHMSS. Lazenby came across as a bit more vulnerable, so the really emotional scene at the end really resonates. I actually tear up a bit when he says the bit about "it's really alright..." in the car.

My pick? Dalton in For Your Eyes Only. It's a strong movie on it's own terms, but throw Dalton in the mix, and you have one hell of a Bond film. He'd be closer in age to Melina, the serious, down to Earth plot would work well with him, and I would think they would cut out all the other silly humor nonsense as well. Gosh just thinking about it...easily would be a top 5 Bond film. ***Also give us John Barry for the film, FYEO would be unstoppable.

I love FYEO but i agree a younger Bond like Dalton would have been a step foward. Moore started to look his age in this one plus he never suited a darker Bond which that film needed. Dalton late 70's would have been awesome.

If Dalts was in it chances are it wouldn't be at the bottom of my list.
  • I'm not sure if Sir Sean would take the role in OHMSS seriously enough, but I still would love to see what'd he do. I'd also love to see him in CR.
Talking about the other fellas: Dalton in FYEO, Brosnan or Craig in LTK and TLD (since Pierce was the first option for TLD) and Moore in DAF.

No way. Tim was fantastic in TLD- it is my favourite Bond film, a pinnacle in the franchise IMO. I'd not trade that for anything. Stuff OHMSS; if you disagree I thank you for it.

The reason I swap Pierce & Timothy is because they were both offered the role as 007. Sir Timothy thought he was too young to play Bond. So he past on the role. Cubby (Who was a big fan of Pierce Bronsan as 007) wanted to cast Pierce as 007 for The Living Daylights. But due to commitment issues with Remington Steele it never happened. So I'm just curious about...What if?

Tim was way too young for Bond in OHMSS, and Pierce was still a bit young for Bond in 1987.
Like Spock said, the Universe unfolded as it should have...
  • I think if Dalton were in OHMSS, I feel the film would be a total reboot due to his age, or maybe prequel sort-of film.

  • This is of course going over old ground as some have pointed out, but in any event, I would of had Lazenby also in Diamonds, and while still suitable for Live and Let Die, I simply can't tamper with my favorite release in any way shape or form, and after all, Moore did do a very good job that year. Maybe George could of returned for Golden Gun and The Spy Who Loved Me, even though once again, Moore did good for the most part in the 1970s. It was only entering into a new decade that the problems really started to add up

Anyone but Moore in 1983 and 1985 I feel sometimes, Brosnan was too young at the time, although had featured in movie releases, so that only really leaves Dalton, but I feel his debut in 1987 was the right time for an entrance, and just couldn't envisage him in any nonsense releases such as Octopussy and A View to a Kill

Of course, George was still feasibly involved at the time, or could of been, but think as with Dalton by the time of Goldeneye, was a little past it then for the role

Craig maybe for Die Another Day, but it was before he really put himself on the map with Layer Cake and wasn't as well known in 2002 as four years later, but still something I may have liked to have seen. Brosnan wasn't appropriate as James Bond by this time I always insist

I would love to see OHMSS with Sean or Roger, it would have been great as Sean's last film or somewhere in the middle of Roger's tenure. The death of Tracy would have meant so much more with an established Bond.

I have to agree here. Dalton would have looked better with Melina. I watched FYEO and Roger looks a bit too old for her. Objectively speaking. I also thought adding in the young skating champion girl detracted from the film's aims of being a grittier Bond.

The young girl does not suit the story and seeing as she is not a love interest, her scenes take you out of the film's more serious side. She was overkill.

And John Barry is the master of the best James Bond score. The man could do no wrong and just got it perfect. He always added something new whilst keeping the traditional.

Roger ironically stayed on longer as Bond as once they heard Connery was coming back for NSNA, they thought it best to compete against it with an established Bond.

Dalton was approached for FYEO in 1980 but turned down the offer as they had no script to show him. A shame but seeing as Moonraker preceded it, I am not surprised about Dalton's reservations.

FYEO has some ridiculously naff scenes like the pool side fight before Bond meets Melina. It was poorly executed and the depiction of women was a far cry from sophisticated. Connery era Bond handled that better. Jill St John was a tough woman though they made her into super bimbo in the finale.

As for Roger in OHMSS, absolutely no way. He is best suited to campy Bond.

    Tim

  • Connery in a serious adaptation of Golden Gun would've been incredible. Just imagine Connery versus Lee...

I would also prefer Dalton in GE...that film was made for him.

It would have to be Dalton in GE, as well as a few tweaks here and there to the cast.
  • I'm not Dalton's biggest fan by any stretch but I prefer him to Pierce. That said, as far as the public goes (alas) I think Brosnan maybe have been needed in GE to give the series that shot in the arm it needed. In terms of artistic merit, yeah GE would have been vastly superior with Dalton.
  • One of my favorite "alternate Bond timeline" fantasies would have had TMWTGG done in '72 with Lazenby. The far eastern setting coupled with his martial arts prowess would have made for an interesting mix. He certainly would have not needed those school girls to fight for him I can say that much. Plus with Lazenby's connections to Bruce Lee maybe the latter could have been cast as the villain, or a least a very powerful henchman. Oh to dream...
