Pretty sure it was Cubbys idea along with the public.

According to John Glens book, 'For My Eyes Only'
It was Michael Wilson and Glen himself, after Brossa visited the set of FYEO. Cubby had to be convinced!

Someone here said Brosnan had creative disagreements with Tomorrow Never Dies? What were they? Is there a link to an article?

DAD was post The Matrix. So they Matrixed Bond. That is all The Matrix fault.
For a while, after TM, there was crap CGI stuff and accelerated footage in every film, until Bourne destroyed them and switched the Zeitgeist.
By the time Matrix 2 & 3 came out, Bourne and 24 were already powning everything.

Then Batman Begins made an impact, allowing CR to be made.

Bourne 2 & 3 (2004 and 2007), impacted QOS, not only in the shaky cam and epilectic editing department, the third also gave birth to the idea of making QOS an extension of CR (as the third film is set between the pre-ending and the ending of the second).

    Really, blaming The Matrix?

The Matrix had good story, was intellectually stimulating and complex, it's CGI was actually well done. And it wasn't derivative.

None of these things could be said for DAD. EON superficially borrowed some of these elements without much reason.

DAD was taking a lot of influences from different popular films of the late 90s and early 2000s. Christian Wagner was hired as the editor, and he’s known for a lot of Tony Scott films that used “MTV style” editing. Funnily, one of his more recent works at the time of DAD was MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE II, which really explains a lot.

    Korrekt, Herr Stamper.
