I couldn't bring myself to watch it. The whole premise sounded so awful.

Plus Harrison Ford just annoys me these days. He's past it.

Well, he is partly responsible for it...

Confused - Faveraux or Howard then?

Any way, perhaps we should get back on topic...

The point being that Dalton was obviously a genius decades ahead of his time.

I guess... still I quite liked the film. Really fun, mindless entertainement.

Most people I've talked to about Dalton have described him as "dull" and that includes people who were old enough to remember the Connery era.
Dalton has a very broad northern accent in TLD, which I find odd/amusing. He doesn't try and hide it at all. There are moments, if you close your eyes, when it could be a gritty kitchen sink drama. Dullness is of course a matter personal taste. Some people might find Andrei Tarkovsky's 'Stalker' dull but to many it is one of the seminal sci-fi movies of all time.

Random comparison I know, but just wanted to underline that one person's dull is another's dynamite.

I appreciate where the criticisms are coming from with Dalton. He's a touch worthy about the whole role and could have been a bit more gung ho, but TLD is the last Bond movie that feels like a true part of the franchise, and Tim does a solid job.

I like Tim, he did a good job and certainly deserved at least a third film but I too can see where the criticisms are going from. As Doubleohhseven said, he sometimes played it like he was playing Hamlet. When I saw LTK recently one of my thoughts was: "he looks like he has a stick up his arse". I think in many ways he lets himself go a bit more in films like Hot Fuzz.

TLD is for me a solid film - if a little bland at times.

His northern accent does come through in LTK sometimes too. "Why don't you wait until you're aasked"

Nowadays he sounds a bit American.

I haven't see Dalts in anything since LTK apart from Hot Fuzz. He seems to have done a Lazer post-Bond and totally messed up his career. He was a fool to pull out of Goldeneye. A lot of that film would have made a lot more sense if it was the same actor returning to play a post cold war Bond. Any way, all speculation.

I think at heart he's a stage actor - NOT a screen actor. That's where his passion lies and good for him. You can tell the theatre is in his blood and that seems to be where he's had the most pleasure and success.

In regard to GE I don't think Dalton necessarily needed to be the lead. GE was about "James Bond the legend" hence any actor could have played the lead. Also, I might be wrong, but I really don't think GE starring Dalton would have set the world on fire in 1995 despite the long gap. Connery, Moore, Brosnan and Craig were all more popular than Dalton by the time their third films came along.

What Craig does in non-Bond movies like Munich, Layer Cake, Defiance... THAT is acting. What Craig does in CR and QOS is not acting, it's just pouting.

What Craig did in the torture scene was acting. Pure powerhouse acting. One of the best performances of any actor in the role.

They got "any" actor. Pierce Brosnan. Straight out of the telephone directory.

Really? I thought he Dalton just a washed up old has-been post-Bond doing utter dross. I'm aware that he was well regarded for his theatre and TV work prior to taking on Bond. But what's he done since? Total cr*p, I believe.

Well his peak was probably his stage career in the 70s. Since then he's done stuff in the US (a tv series called Chuck I believe though I've never seen it).I'd have thought he would have done a few more things on stage but evidently not according to IMDB and Wikipedia. He was also at the John Barry tribute concert I went to last year.

When I've seen him interviewed post-Bond he's come across as a bit of a pompous idiot. He clearly made a huge mistake resigning from the role at a time when the producers wanted him to return. He seems to take himself much too seriously, despite having what is self-evidently the most embarassingly awful post-Bond CV of any of the actors (apart perhaps from Lazer). Funny, I much prefer Brozza the man to Dalts, but when it comes to their on-screen performances it's the other way round. I wonder if not actually being a particularly likeable person helps in producing a good Bond performance. Connery is pretty prickly, as is Craig. Along with Dalts, they've arguably given the most powerful screen interpretations of Bond.

Extremely bad acting you mean. IMO Craig in CR made one of the worst Bond perfomance of the franchise... Heck the torture scene made Halle Berry in DAD pass for Oscar-worthy material... I think I prefer Craig's constant pouting than his appalling behaviour during the torture.

I'm not keen on what Craig is given to play in that scene either but it hardly amounts to "one of the worst Bond perfomance of the franchise" in my opinion. Craig is rather damn good and by far the best thing in Casino Royale in my opinion.

If you think Craig not acting in CR, what do you call for Moore performance DC? what you call "extremly bad acting" give him BAFTA nominations,

IHMO the actor that never acting was Roger MOORE my friend, he just show up to the camera, and he NEVER doing his own stunts except when his doing his famously unique clown face in OP

Well I think Moore gave the best performances as Bond. Faultless. He was class-act, charming, charismatic, suave, cool, funny.

I must admit it first sounded a bit awkward and un-Bond like when he said: "now the whole world's going to know you died scratching my balls".

I've got used to it now though.

The nice thing about Craig is that he can hold his own, even amongst a strong 'actorly' cast. It's one reason Skyfall is sounding so interesting right now - Craig bouncing off Bardem, Finney, Fienes. It's got to be good on some level. Imagine Brozza alongside that lot - it would have been a bloodbath.

maybe the definition of acting according sir DaltonCraig007 is different with the rest of us (or maybe just different with me)

Well I think Craig is an excellent actor, just a very bad Bond... not his fault though, the material given is very bad. And the acting direction EON is giving to him are also at fault. If only Craig could play Bond like he played in 'Dragon Tattoo' or even 'Munich', I'd rank him much higher. As of now, after CR and QOS, Craig is the great actor playing very badly.

In fairness to Brozza he was very good in The Greatest, which had Carey Mulligan and Susan Sarandon, two rather heavyweight actresses (yes, I know CM is young but still she's good).
