Connery infused Bond with dark humor. Thanks to Terrence Young who helped him in the first two films.
Aaaargh. Sorry, @thedove, but "Terrence" Young hurts just as much as Ian "Flemming". Just one "r", please. I know I'm a bean counter, but I swallow a lot anyway.

Thanks for the catch, though maybe a private message might have been better than blasting it into the discussion.

Sorry, I'll try to improve next time. But as you see, it just burst out, and starting a PM is much too complicated to vent feelings immediately.

I don't think he gained weight during the production but if he did it was subtle. I think the tight shooting schedule wouldn't have allowed for him to gain weight.

To those that wish DAF was a revenge type thriller. The producers were nervous. In their mind when the film was being developed it was going to star a third actor in the role in the last 3 films.

The audiences hadn't responded to OHMSS as well as YOLT. They felt the need to go opposite in tone and feel to OHMSS and so they brought back Hamilton. Looking for his golden touch for lightness.

I shudder to think how John Gavin would have performed in this film instead of Connery. Say what you will but Connery did play it with a certain confidence of having been the character for a 5 films. He has an air about him. Someone said he was playing himself, which of course he was not James Bond. This is why he wanted to break away from the role.

The DAF template showed the producers the way forward and when it was obvious that Connery was only willing to do this one they ran back the creative team and got a Bond actor who could play it lighter.

I think he was a little thinner in these scenes. Yes, it's not a radical change, but it's noticeable.

Fat Connery in DAF is a bit more jolly than Thin Connery.
