    MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

I contemplated buying the boxset with the original series, but wasn t sure if it was as good as I remembered it from the reruns in the 70s. Then I found out that most episodes are available online.

Where did you watch those episodes, @Thunderfinger?

You can find them on Bing videos.

Thanks! It's been a long time since I've seen the original M:I TV series.

My pleasure. Not sure how many episodes are available there.

I'm considering getting the DVD collection, but might wait a bit if the majority of the episodes are available online.

Looks like a random collection, and some episodes are low quality. Just ordered the box myself.

I see. Better have a look at the collection then. I see there's a recent Blu-ray release as well (apparently region free), but I could only find the box set available from retailers selling through Amazon.

There is a UK import available through Platekompaniet.

The Blu-ray set? It doesn't show in my search results on Platekompaniets site.

No, you are right about that. It is only the dvd set. That is the one I ordered.

I do hope that Blu-ray set finds it's way to more online stores eventually. The video quality looks good. If not, then the DVD set is the way to go.

I am still working my way through season 1 (of 7), and am enjoying it so far.

I am a few episodes in, it reminds me of the game Fable it many ways. The set designs and costumes are good in a fantasy world similar 19th century Russia.

Started watching " Invincible" on Amazon Prime, an animated superhero story but for Adults, as it violent and very bloody.

Watched episide 6 earlier today, its interesting though taken me several weeks to get this far, it's not binge worthy for me. It gets more violent.

@Fire_and_Ice_Returns a work colleague is in to it and urged me to take a look. I have to admit the ultra violence is not to my taste but I'll keep watching as I think it's only eight episodes.

That's right I have two episodes to go, it has picked up pace with the last episode. I have a feeling I know where its going though I am also prepared for a twist shock ending.

A rerun of The Love Boat guest starring Deadlier Than The Male's Elke Sommer

    @MajorDSmythe Here's a brief clip from it:

The episode also featured other 1960s spy film vets: Mike Connors (Kiss The Girls And Make Them Die), Camilla Sparv (Murderer's Row, Assignment K) and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. himself, Robert Vaughn.

I just watched that, purely for scientific reasons. Never saw The Love Boat before, but while I had heard of it, I thought it was a soap, didn't know that it was a comedy!

Death in Paradise Season 8 I have totally lost track of where I am with this show so starting at the beginning of season 8. Though I don't remember Danny John-Jules leaving, I may have jumped too far ahead.

Recently picked up from Amazon Prime the 80s tv series " Brett Maverick " with
James Garner returning to his famous creation. Only ran to one series but it has
all the usual fun scams to get the better of the villains. Simply a fun easy going
adventure series and apparently never repeated on British tv since its first broadcast.
I've also worked my way through all the Black and White episodes of The Saint, there
are some great stories in there. I'll soon start on the Colour episodes of the Remaining Seasons.

Then I found out that most episodes are available online. Started with the pilot episode from 1966. Don t think I have seen this one before, but it reminded me very much of another episode with a similar plot. Strange seeing this in colour, as I watched it in black and white. Same with many other shows. I loved this show as a kid, so looking forward to exploring it further. There is much I haven t seen.

@Thunderfinger i Just ordered the Blu-ray set of the original series from Amazon. A bit pricy with shipping costs added, but considering it's a set of 46 BR discs, it was an alright enough price.

Cool. I am about to start on season three, and still having a good time. A bit weird that Riggs from season one is suddenly swapped for Phelps from season two onward without any explanation. I remember them both from more or less random episodes I watched as a kid, but didn t know the change was so abrupt.

It's so long ago that I can't remember if it was the original show, the 80's one, or that I remember episodes from both shows, but I remember watching episodes on TV with Briggs, and episodes with Phelps. Never thought about Phelps being Briggs' replacement either.

I only remembered it being Briggs after looking up why Steven Hill didn't return for season two.

    And why didn t he?

    From Wikipedia:
At the start of the second season, James Phelps took over as lead of the IMF team, and no on-air explanation was offered for Briggs's disappearance. The real-life reason was that actor Steven Hill's Orthodox Jewish religious beliefs often conflicted with the shooting schedule, making it difficult for the production crew to meet deadlines. By mutual consent, his contract was not renewed for season two.

I remember reading that Steven Hill also had a drinking problem which also lead to filming problems. I too have just finished season two of the original MI series I'm also enjoying Clarkson's Farm on Amazon Prime.

Haha, thanks! The Wikipedia article on Steven Hill elaborates a bit more on him leaving M:I.

Hill not being available to shoot scenes must have been frustrating enough for the production. If he had a drinking problem (which is not suggested in the Wikipedia article), then that must have further complicated the situation. I remember liking the Briggs character, but Phelps wasn't a downgrade.

The unexplained swap shouldn’t be surprising because that’s how shows were done back in the day. It’s not like today where everything has to be connected and explained. Cast changes were done without any explanation as to what happened to the characters. It never bothered me. I grew up with that. Each episode was its own self contained story. Nobody worried about how it connected to the previous episode or how it’ll figure into the next episode. I always liked that. To be able to tune into any episode you wanted and not be worried that you missed something. That’s why I don’t watch modern TV. Everything is serialized. Like a soap opera.

About a week and a half ago, I finished binge watching Downton Abbey on Netflix, and the film as well (which sadly isn’t on Netflix). I can’t believe I never got into it before.

I did some research, and found out that each season covers one book (although the first book bled a little into season 2). So if the sixth IS indeed the end of it on TV we can still read the last three books to find out how it all ties together, though they said that season 6 will be a suitable place to leave off...
