I think WOTW is the only real hope for Bond at the Oscar's!

Considering it's the only nomination that the film received, I think you may be right! ;)

Let it not be said that i am not thorough! ;) :))

    Haha, fair enough!! ;)

The only other one I had hoped for was possibly Best Cinematography, but even still, it wouldn't have a chance of winning.

The perfect run for Sam Smith is complete, despite all the haters.

Congratulations, it is more than deserved.

    :-bd
  • It's so good to be a Bond fan these days.....this past decade :-). I'm overjoyed. The Academy finally loves Bond. And deservedly. There were days when 'we' as fans strongly criticized the Academy for overlooking the Bond franchise. But.....no more!
  • Just compare the Oscar performances of Adele with Sam Smith. In all honesty, Sam's performance touches me a bit more. It's such a difficult song to sing, but his voice gives me shivers:

Sam Smith with "Writing's On The Wall" ("SPECTRE"):

    Adèle with "Skyfall" ("SKYFALL"):

What do you think? If this was Eurovision, which would receive your 'douze points' :-P?

While I love WOTW, I thought his performance last night of it was awful. Definitely wasn't even close to hitting those high notes like he does in the studio version, the whole performance was pretty mediocre.

I found Adele's performance under par to be honest. Yes, she nailed it a bit more, but her performance lacked soul and depth.

At least it was nicer on the ears than Smith's WOTW last night, though she did lack a lot of booming power that her voice has in the studio version. Again, catchy, enjoyable song, but he just wasn't at the top of his game at all during the performance.

Smith's Oscar performance wasn't very good, neither was Adele's. She's overrated anyway as live performer.

If you want to see stunning Oscar performances watch those: simply breathtaking!

Her performance of the song start at 3 minutes.

Don't think I've caught that live version of TB yet, Tom sounds almost the exact same as he did in the 1960's. Insane.

Actually, "SPECTRE" was the only +$850 Million Box Office hit that won such an Oscar. If you would include some more financial successful cult films, then you could also include these two films:
--> 1 Academy Award: "EX MACHINA" (For visual effects. Very deserved win!)
--> 1 Academy Award: "THE HATEFUL EIGHT" (Finally a win for Ennio!)

It seemed to me like Sam was super nervous during the Oscars performance (understandable), and that had to have been an immense factor, because he's always great live. Having Sarah Silverman supply a weak intro didn't exactly help things either, I imagine.

But on the whole........enjoy these precious moments. Back in the 1960's there were two back-to-back Oscar wins for the Bond franchise; "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball". Fifty years later "Skyfall" and "SPECTRE" do the same trick. So you might have to wait for another 50 years before a future Bond films wins an Oscar again :-O!

I'm not knocking it. In fact, I'm one of the select few who weren't making a fuss about it, popping Sam's balloon or wondering why WOTW won. I like him and his music, so it's all good for me.

I too love the song, think it fits the film perfectly, I can't understand the hate some
have with it. I'm just over the moon to see Bond getting a bit of respect and am so
happy to see Sam get his "revenge" on all his critics. No better revenge than success ! :D

Wait, do you mean the film or the organization itself? I don't want to say the wrong thing here and end up with a bullet in my back. We all know what happened with Greene.
