You would rather watch live and Let die pts then moonraker pts?

Yes, indeed! I find the Moonraker one quite boring. One I don't like much is the extreme opposite: QoS. But all just because I get angry because I can't follow it due to the insane editing.

CR is still pretty amazing, same with FRWL, YOLT, DAF, LALD ... most of them are just awesome even by today's standands. The titles though ... some of them did not age well (GE for example).

Nice to see someone else like the DAF PTS apart from me !!

Relax, relax @Bondsum. I wasn't disrespecting their legacy at all.

But speaking of this forum's apparent hierarchy; I find it quite a shame that new users get talked down to. I've seen this happen a lot over the last two years and tbh I find it quite disgraceful and disheartening.

Have to defend OHMSS, second for me. Brilliant reveal of Bond, (Sunglasses, hat, rifle sight in glove box), Barrys score, Tracys attempted suicide, great fight scene, beautifully shot!
Well said, @Mathis1. Totally agree with you, in the top three best PTS of all time. Seriously guys, you have a problem with the old-style camera technique of undercranking, which is still occasionally used today; see Mad Max: Fury Road, but give the dreadfully hackneyed overcrank (slow-mo) a pass due to the technique featuring in every modern action movie ever made in the past 15 years, which, might I add, was as as unnatural to the human eye back then as undercranking is to some younger critics today. In the 70s I used to align slow-mo to cheap TV productions and bad Kung-fu movies. Today, I align it with unimaginative action directors. You guys need to look at OHMSS more as experimental film making, using bold and inventive techniques, rather than a movie to poo-poo. Seriously, it's the nearest a Bond picture's got to looking visually anything like an art house movie.
Good to read this defense of OHMSS. People call the undercranking and SFX goofy, like Hunt didn't know what he was doing - he was pushing the envelope and seeing where he could take action editing. He was an innovator.

Anyway, my favourite pre-titles sequences are GF (mostly due to Barry's music), OHMSS, MR, TLD (even if these last two go a bit pear-shaped at their ends), GE (Bond theme on kettledrums!), CR and SP.

For me, the worst are FYEO (what were they thinking?) and TWINE (Brosnan is sleazy, the action is too cute and it's way too long).
  • My favourite is still FRWL
It's simple, tense, stylishly done and has it's own little twist at the end.

Off the top of my head I'd have to say AVTAK would be the worst

    B-)

I like the DAF PTS but more because of how hilariously shoddy it is (the silly looking henchmen are my highlights and the face one of them pulls when hit with the scalpel).

I certainly wouldn't rank MR as one of the worst. The opening hijacking of the shuttle is excellent, and the freefall stunts are superb. Its only Jaws appearance that lets it down. But lots to enjoy, i much prefer it to the over-rated TSWLM!
AVTAK is only ruined by the inclusion of that awful Beach Boys cover song!

No love for TMWTGG here? I love the funhouse design, the atmosphere, the lightning, the weirdness, the score, the cat and mouse game. Might be my favourite scene in the franchise that doesn't involve Bond.

Oh definitely, but I also like the score, and the way the Bond is kicking arse all over the place, looking for Blofeld.

I like it a lot. It's a sentimental favourite for all the reasons you mention and additionally because of Maud Adams, but objectively I recognize that others are far more exciting.

I agree. Weirdly fascinating, but it doesn't deliver any thrills!
For DAF, it was considered to hold over Tracys death from OHMSS for the pts, but thankfully Peter Hunt got his way! As it is,DAF is really bad, cheap jokes in cheap locales!

YOLT. It's the least exhilarating, the special effects are poor, the Bond girl is poor and the death of Bond isnt fooling anyone. Yes its still good.....but I had to pick a least favourite.

FRWL has to be the best. Slick, classy and iconic. In terms of action sequences I love QoS.....the car chase is the highlight of the whole film.

I probably answered before, but favorite is CR, least favorite is AVTAK.

Other favorites: GF, TSWLM, GE, and SP.
Other least favorites: YOLT, DAF, TMWTGG, and TND.

Best of both in one PTS: The awesome skydiving sequence at the beginning of Moonraker is just RUINED by the flapping arms gag, and the fall/flop into the circus tent.

It is so great that I forgive the ending.

I don't love TND or TWINE. Both just seem to go on forever. YOLT is one of the weakest, but oh that score! Same for AVTAK. Actually, I'd score LTK below those two.

My top three favourite Pre Titles Sequence would be GF, TB and OHMSS. I like the editing of the OHMSS and it feels different with some pretty cool fights and a little tease of the Bond Girl. Has any other movie featured the Bond girl and Bond in a Pre Titles Sequence?

GF is just great stuff. It teases what's to come and has a great style to it.

TB I just love the imagery of Bond punching a lady. Another fun start to the movie.

I didn't like a lot of the later movies as the Pre Titles became extensions of the movie and I love Bond being on a solo mission that is unconnected to the main movie.

Those three are all great, among the best. Re: Tracy in the PTS of OHMSS, TSWLM does briefly feature Anya, but that's it.

I too love the odd occasions when prominent characters are introduced during the PTS: henchman and secondary villain in FRWL; main villain in DAF; main villain, henchman, and secondary girl in TMWTGG; henchman in MR; main villain, henchman, minor henchmen, secondary girl, and ally in LTK; main villain and secondary villain in GE; minor villain in TND; main villain and henchman in DAD; secondary villain in QOS; henchman in SF.

Edit: Just remembered Kananga and Solitaire pop up in the PTS of L&LD, too. So that makes Tracy, Solitaire, and Anya.

Nice catch @some_kind_of_hero I had forgotten about Anya in TSWLM.

GE is interesting as in the pre titles Alec is on the side of right and virtue and then flips to the dark side.

When I speak of TMWTGG being better in it's parts rather than whole, the PTS is one example. Barry's music cranks up the tension in an already tense scene.

Fair point. Cut out some of the crap humour.....karate girls/ JW Pepper and you've got a decent film (and excellent score anyhow).

    TWINE.

If it was just the Swiss banker bit it would probably be DAD or another one but the over long stretched out nature of it, also the Thames chase just sends me to sleep.

I love pretty much all of them, bar AVTAK.
The beach boys, the dodgy stunts, the iceberg getaway, it's a complete parody of Bond and doesn't hold a candle to every other pre titles sequence.
