But Raiders had people impaled on spikes, horrible skull faces, rotting and melting flesh, the paranormal scene near the end when the Ark of the Covenant is opened can be quite unnerving for younger audiences, I think at the time of release, they maybe could of done a better rating for it. Temple of Doom is the weaker picture for sure, and not quite so gruesome if memory serves

Temple has someone's heart ripped out!

@myworldisenough IMDB ranks Shawshank Redemption as #2 on it's 100 greatest all time Movie list, I just found that a complete nonsense. I've seen it a couple of times, and while a good and entertaining watch, never understood all the hype and adulation it receives. It would place it maybe #25 on that list, there are far more deserving movies that warrant a second place on there. The Goonies is a super watch for kids, and it has Robert Davi in it, some time before we knew him as Sanchez, I remember going along to see it when it was first released, everyone should see it once in their lifetime

Shawshank has long been seen as an all time great but it is interesting to note that it was largely overlooked at the cinema and it's reputation grew through the years. I'm not suggesting its the greatest film of all time but that it is in my top five favs to watch. It is a fantastic heart warming feel good movie considering its subject matter. The story of friendship, hope and redemption is beautifully told. Brilliantly directed and amazingly acted. As for the Goonies, that movie is wonderful, magical, funny. Everyone should definitely see it, great for kids and adults alike.

Can someone clear something up maybe

From a last viewing of Shawshank Redemption, the lead character played by Tim Robbins, escapes from his cell near the end and tunnels out. In the morning we see his cell empty, with a big poster of Raquel Welch I think it was, covering the hole where he was digging. How in gods name was he able to put that back himself and cover the hole from the inside like it appeared to the guards in the morning, it is not humanly possible. He was the last in, no other character put it back, or was even aware of his escape attempt even if I recall. It's simply wasn't possible for him to put the poster back by himself. Just makes no sense. It's a minor complaint on an otherwise fine movie though

I don't recall the dimensions of the poster, but it would be possible to put half of the poster up. Leave the bottom dangling as you hold a side with one hand, reach your other hand out the other side, and then push on the top corners to get it to stick. You could probably even get three of the four corners to stick.

That, or he somehow paid off an inmate/guard to go in there and tape it back up for him. The first option sounds more plausible.

Not even that, as the DeFresne character, (or whatever his name was) was only able to keep going in one direction once he entered the hole, it would of been impossible to lean back or turn around in the space provided and even get hold of the poster, it is just a scenario that would of been impossible to attempt, next time you watch, have a look at it. It will illustrate my point well enough. The guard/inmate option is actually more feasible. And it took him 20 years to dig through the section of wall?, Heh, what were the guards doing all that time, must of had a damn lot of posters about.. Maybe they were aware of his intentions and just let him get on with it, I don't know

Oh, don't forget spoiler tags, by the way. I changed up yours in my quote, as to not give away the ending to the film.

I can believe you there, for I have seen the film once, and it's been months since. It's probably just one of those 'twists' you're supposed to go along with and not question, even though it is one of those questions that keeps you baffled.

I'm half asleep for Spoilers in my defense, I didn't even give it a thought, Apologies

All I wanted was an explanation of how it was done, but we have to remember, it is merely a movie, so we shouldn't look too much into it

It's probably just a plot hole - scenes cut out on purpose that would have explained your question, yet this editing problem wasn't realized until later - or it was a goof on their part. Or, they just wanted to keep the audience thinking, for those who caught the error.

Really? I thought that movie was terrible. The plot and character development was abysmal. Just goes to show how much opinion can differ.

Well, this is a list of favorite films, not of the best films I could think of. The ones I can always come back to and watch. At least that's how I took the list.

And I'll admit, it has it's flaws, but I don't think I've ever heard or read that the character developement was the issue. Interesting, I'll have it provoke some thinking next time I watch it. I'll pay close attention and see if I can see where your coming from, but imo it's not something that stands out if it is indeed an issue. The plot wasn't really all that bad either imo, but it is one of my favorites.

I'd also like to add that my list is always temporary. I don't think I could ever keep the same top five, unless Hollywood turned completely South and Nolan, Bond, Tarantino, and my other favorites were put out of business.

Also, it's currently on the list because it gave me one of the best ideas for a story/film I've ever had (at least in my opinion), and so I go back to it for certain elements I'd like my story to share. Basically my idea is a monster movie, but the monster shows up quite a bit more. It's just slightly similar to Super 8, and Super 8 inspired it.. somehow.

@0013, I haven't seen 'Layer Cake' in quite some time. I purchased it for $13 one time on blu-ray, but ultimately returned it because I don't recall if it was that great for me to rewatch it time and time again. I surmise it really is that good?

I'll put it like this: each time I go to my best friend's house, we rewatch it!!

@0013, nice! I'm really going to have to check it out again soon, then. I do remember liking it, I just couldn't recall enough about it to decide if I would watch it enough times to warrant a purchase.

Wonderful choice. The king of cool, Bogie. That film has one of his best performances, so maniacal.

Love Bogey. He was a real Man's Man. Though he won the oscar for African Queen, he was even better as Fred Dobbs. But then he was great in any movie he played in. Are there any actors and I mean true actors not just movie stars out there today?

It's been a while since I've seen it, but here's what I remember.
My biggest problem was with the actual Alien. They spend so much time building up the anticipation, and you only see it for about 30 seconds at the end. The fact that it was so menacing to the town, killing people, made it even harder to believe that a kid's fake emotions could alter it's ego.

Also, the military came across as bland and uninspired.

But that's all opinion. I don't like finding flaws in my favourite movies, so my favourites and my bests often go hand in hand.

Think I'll do a second list of favorite films, as I don't have a definite one favorite movie, these would have to be up there also rated very highly

    #2 Under Siege 1992
#3 Quatermass and The Pit 1967
    #4 The Deer Hunter 1978
