It's a characteristic I always missed in cinematic Bond, actually.

I would like to see a "scarred" Bond in the movies. I think if they go for an older bond (something Clive Owens would be perfect for) they should add a scar to his face.

Ahhh, Clive.... it could never happen. We only get one pick & Pierce was it for me. Clive would be great, but he was unknown to me then.

..It is a German "Dueling Scar" on JB's Cheek-as German officers needed that to impress
higher ranking officers of their ability..(to stand the pain-if such an officer did not have a scar-then he might not be up to the task-and beeing passed over for promotion-that was a Fleming reality, from his covert times..!)

Possibly, but I don't think that either Fleming or his creation were ever German officers, unless Bond did undercover work posing as a German officer during WWII

Prefer the schrapnel explanation to the through a windscreen one.

I think this is how Ian Fleming's James Bond might have looked - the image on the right:

Hoagy Carmichael with larger face/jawline, scar on right cheek:

However, my personal vision of how Bond looks is this guy - with scar added:

Jason Isaacs would've been the perfect literary James Bond. And I believe most of the people will agree to that.

And here's the scar on his right cheek as envisioned by Fleming.

Have to say personally I always found Horak's rendition of Bond to be my favourite. McClusky's looks like he works on a fishing trawler (I can almost picture the 'Mum & Dad' and 'Scotland Forever' tattoos!) and the one Fleming commissioned looks a tad fey and a bit too much like Sherlock Holmes for my liking.

Me too. Horak's Bond is more or less spot on as to how I imagine him.

His women are fantastically drawn as well!

I worry that the younger generation would associate a facial scar too strongly with Harry Potter. Might be easier to have a scar somewhere else on his body.

Well, he does have a scar on his hip... He got that "from a jealous woman in Jamaica" according to Sylvia Trench. ;)

As for another notable scar, the letter S on the back of his hand would work upon which a SMERSH agent scarred it up with a knife in the Casino Royale novel. They could do that in the films and the S could easily stand for SPECTRE.
