Alternate Scenes in the Bond Movies

My apologies if this has been done before!
It's a fairly simple idea; just tell us what you would have done differently in those scenes that didn't go quite how you liked it. For me, I'd change the fight between Necros and Bond on the plane. While that was a terrific fight scene, I would have liked to have seen Koskov fight Bond instead, leaving Necros to retreat back to Whitaker's estate, and thus giving us a better climax where Bond must defeat both of them individually, possibly saving Necros to be arrested by the KGB after a fight with Bond.

    I would fix the fight scene with Renard in the submarine. I would make it longer, have more action, and make Brosnan look a little tougher.

    DAF: Simply add back in the deleted scenes! All the plot confusion makes sense that way--and you wouldn't have to change anything. I would love it if they re-inserted those scenes --Plenty dinner date, Plenty reading Tiffany's address, Sammy Davis Jr. cameo into an "Extended Cut" if and when they ever release the Blu-Ray of Diamonds

    that scene shoul end better and cast different girl from denise (altough i like her but in TWINE... naaah)
    and there is the best movie ever :p

    I'm sure the producers wish they had excised the Beatles line in GF.

    Similarly, the whole "Bond allying with the proto-Taliban" in TLD really dates that movie now.

    I've been torn with deciding whether or not I would have preferred the alternate opening to Casino Royale or not. I enjoy how Bond's discussion with Dryden cuts to Bond and Fisher fighting, but the alternate opening at the cricket game is very, very entertaining.

    Agreed 100% with this. Especially the scene where Wint and Kidd bump off Shady Tree.

    @Creasy47: Yeah, I liked the alternate Casino Royale opening as well. It did an excellent job at showing the suspense behind Bond's first kill leading him up to the double-oh status. Also, it gave us a longer pre-title sequence, which is always nice!

    Here's the guide to deleted scenes from DAF and my thoughts on them-

    1. Sammy Davis, Jr- like most of the "Rat Pack", Sammy was a Vegas fixture and the scene is fun. But other than giving a little background to the relatively minor Saxby character's relationship with Willard Whyte, it really only tells you something Tiffany reveals later, which is that Whyte is a recluse who hasn't left his penthouse in 3 years.

    2. Killing Shady Tree- this scene shouldn't have been edited at all. It's the same deal as Fields in QOS. Poor decision making by Guy Hamilton (who has a history of this in Bond movies) that robs the audience of another classic kill from Wint and Kidd.

    3. Dinner With Plenty- this scene really didn't add anything the audience couldn't figure out when meeting her at the craps table- Plenty is a bimbo and not too bright.

    4. Plenty Returns- another scene that should have made the finished product. It explains how she found Tiffany's place, why she went there, and how she came to be dead in the pool.

    5. Through The Alley...Again- obviously one of the most famous gaffes in Bond history. Unfortunately, I can see why Hamilton wanted a retake because the crowd gathered to watch the stunt is way too obvious. I still don't know why the French stunt team nor anyone else didn't realize that they needed to be driving on the right wheels and not the left.

    6. Mr. and Mrs. Jones- I would have liked this in the finished film as is because it adds depth to Tiffany's character, and when it comes to the main Bond girl there's nothing wrong with doing this. Unlike scenes #2 and #4, the editing doesn't leave a gap in the story so it was an edit that could be gotten away with.

    Thoughts?

    @Beast, absolutely. I really enjoyed the whole chase sequence behind it. Plus, the fight was a lot grittier.

    TMWTGG: Yes, cut the slide whistle, that ruins a perfect stunt by giving it an artificial look. And b) Cut Bond's reaction shots during the karate girls fight, and add that spectacular acrobatic kick that was left out in the editing room (but can be seen in the extras on the ultimate edition DVD.

    @Samuel001: I like some of the gadgets on the cars, but not anything too far out. Have at least two gadgets on the cars, but don't load it up with so many gadgets that Bond doesn't have a need for driving skills. At that point, the car chases become more of who has the better gadgets.

    This scene sets the tone: adds to the feel and allure of the Vegas setting. Also, I do think Saxby should have been given a little background since he is after all the right hand man.

    I actually don't think this one was necessary, since by this point in the film, we know what Kidd and Wint are capable of. But yeah, it would have been fun to see the kill.

    It's a brief scene and gives us a little more time to goggle at her, well eh...'plentyness.' Like Fields, I don't think they gave us enough time to get to know her before she was killed off. Plus that outrageously over the top mermaid harp setpiece! It's so Vegas of the time--again adds a lot of 'color' to the atmosphere of the place , even if it's a bit gaudy
    4. Plenty Returns- another scene that should have made the finished product. It explains how she found Tiffany's place, why she went there, and how she came to be dead in the pool.
    No question--this should be in the film!

    Not really a true out-take, more of an alternate angle or re-shoot.

    Absolutely--Connery and St. John had great chemistry together. The more scenes with them together the better.

    I think they are all pretty appropriate in the film, and I was quite amazed when I first watched the special features on the DVD years back, to discover how much complete footage was left out.

    The total running time of Diamonds is 115 minutes--just 5 minutes under the 2 hour mark, so I don't see why the deleted scenes, totalling 5 minutes couldn't be inserted back in. Let's petition!

    A View to a Kill and License to Kill also have a lot of deleted scenes. Some of them are not very important cuts, but a few of them should have been included.

    That scene was Bond and Tiffany on the transparent water bed with the live fish swimming around in it. There was quite a bit more in the way of dialogue, which shows even more of Tiffany's scheming and manipulative nature. Even her last question to Bond in the final scene shows she's still trying to figure out how she can get her hands on all those diamonds...definitely not going straight lol.

    Change MR's radar-jamming-room-in-the-spacestation scene so that, when Bond and Holly enter, they discover not a pair a of technicians hard at work, but Jaws hard at work getting jiggy with Dolly.

    A sight to which Sir Rog raises an eyebrow and says to Holly: "That's one giant's leak for mankind..."

    Does anyone else laugh at my favorite deleted scene, from TLD, I think it was called "Magic Carpet Ride". Those guys sitting around enjoying a smoke is, ahem, "awfully familiar" :-D . Definitely looked like something from the Moore era.

    I was watching TMWTGG the other day, and I realized that Kra, Scaramanga's mantinence man, really didn't deserve the shameful death of being "laid out cold" by Mary Goodnight. I've never been fond of that, as I've wished that he and Bond could have slugged it out man-to-man. It wouldn't have to be anything lengthy, but just something to make TMWTGG's climax even better.

    That scene had Roger Moore written all over it! Definitely does not work in the context of Dalton
