Has anyone suggested Cosmo Jarvis as a candidate. He can look very different from role to role. I've seen him in Lady Macbeth, Calm with Horses, and Persuasion. He's an interesting actor, and just about the right age.

That's actually a good shout @sandbagger1. I've only seen him in Lady Macbeth myself, yet to see him in Persuasion and Calm with Horses, but I actually think he'd be an interesting choice. He'd certainly come from left field that's for sure. Just realised he also had a good small part in Peaky Blinders.

Interesting, I’m happy to hear this.

”We’ve tried looking at younger people in the past. But trying to visualize it doesn’t work. Remember, Bond’s already a veteran. He’s had some experience. He’s a person who has been through the wars, so to speak. He’s probably been in the SAS or something. He isn’t some kid out of high school that you can bring in and start off. That’s why it works for a thirty-something.”

Always reassuring to read quotes like these. :)

Indeed. Maybe something of a response to that reported Tom Holland pitch. I wonder how seriously they considered it, or something like it first.

Also, we've gotten a young Bond recently. I assume they cast somebody for the Skyfall PTS, right?:

Agreed. I think it's also a key component of his character that he's survived longer than other 00s, and as such he should be a little older than his contemporaries. With the exception of Casino Royale, I suppose.

I might wonder if they are hinting at Jack O’Connell (32yrs) who is starring in the new SAS Rogue Heroes series.

I seriously doubt they’re hinting at anybody in particular.
  • Bond is from the Royal Navy no? Or did he also do a stint in the SAS?

Craig's Bond was an SBS Commando.

That's good. I've said the same thing for a while now. Didn't work as a concept in the early drafts of CR, won't work now. Bond is most interesting as a 00 anyway, so he should be experienced and in his 30s.

As for Cosmo Jarvis, I'm not sure. To be honest I can imagine him better as a villain. I think it's the fact that he's just a tad bit too muscular, and just a tad bit too 'good looking'. There's just that lack of something 'relatable' about him perhaps to be the protagonist, especially one like Bond. Solid actor though.

Was that actor’s name ever credited? Weird to have someone play Bond that prominently and not know who they are!

Am I missing something? That's just Daniel Craig in the Skyfall titles, isn't it?

At the end of the titles it is, but halfway through it's boy Bond, as recounted in the story Kincaide tells M later about Bond hiding in the priesthole when he found out his parents had been killed.
The Skyfall credits are clever like that, on a couple of occasions they show us bits of plot we're only told about later on in the film, like the brief glimpse of Silva being tortured when he was an MI6 agent.

They did indeed cast a young actor to appear in the titles of Skyfall. It is discussed in the James Bond & Friends podcast for the re-release of Skyfall.

"There was a bit of a stumble over Daniel Craig’s eyes at the end of the sequence, which were meant to be a reprise of his young eyes from earlier on, witnessing something we know not what, yet. The problem was that although I filmed Daniel himself, many people didn’t recognise the eyes as his! I think he is not often filmed that close and he has very distinctive features that if not seen altogether can cause a bit of confusion. So I had to artificially widen the shot to see a bit more nose, ears, and mouth to make sure everyone knew who it was."

The weird thing was that the first time I saw it I thought the young Bond was Craig. I guess because there's no one else it could be but Bond, and your brain just fills in 'if it's Bond, it's Craig'.

This is in reference to the second time the eyes appear. They appear twice folks. I know the second time is Daniel. The first time is not. Thanks.

Right, yeah, it does appear twice. I'm confused. So it's definitely another actor? Or did they manipulate the shot to make him appear younger. Still has his eyes.

Someone else above said it was confirmed to be another actor, which was news to me.

I still only see Craig in the titles. No younger Bond. You have the shadows of Bond's opponents collapsing after Bond fires then Silva pops up and aims.

I literally posted the screenshots in this thread. You're not going to convince me there isn't a younger actor in those screenshots!

Not the same person. I feel like I'm losing my mind. Are we all actually looking at the reference?

Well fair enough, but I'd say it clearly is two different people, and the whole point of it is about young Bond hiding in the walls of the house.

    Skygfallpeepers.jpg

I daresay the kid had a bit of digital tweaking to his eyes and possibly even ears to better match Craig's.

It’s funny because it very well may be a different person, but certainly not a nine year old or whatever, hiding in the priest’s hole!

It's a Scottish 9-year-old, so about 20 in normal years.
