Well done Mr. Logan, this should only mean good things for Bond and Skyfall. The nominations aren't that surprising and it seems Sony have the most. I would have liked The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo's score to get a nod but it appears it hasn't. Go Rooney, I hope she wins for the film, though!

Its sad, Tattoo didn't get a best picture or best director nod. Seems Fincher got snubbed again. Suppose a Meryl Streep with 60% on RT will win over Rooney as well.

Good to see a bit of love for Girl with Drag Tat. Shame Dan Craig didn't get a nod. Maybe for Skyfall? When was the last time the current Bond was involved in an Oscar nominated film? Can only have been Connery if at all. Was The Hill nominated or the Offence?

It was the score and title song of For Your Eyes Only. Bond has only ever won for Goldfinger's Sound Effects and Thunderball's Special Visual Effects.

Only the song. The score of FYEO was not nominated for an Oscar.

Error in the MI6 article then!

So whats the actual count of people with oscars in the Bond family?

I know we had that in a thread not too long ago..

Actually there is no snubbing this time imho, the nominations are a pretty decent bunch of movies, for once I like to see Scorcese win for something worthy.

A funny and sometimes painfull movie writen about women by women, that has little to do with testeronly driven Hangover movies. I like that, pardon me for my personal taste.
  • Nothing I ever want to win ever does at the oscars. But this year hasn't given me alot of choice anyway. Where are nolan and tarantino when you need em.
  • @SaintMark I liked it, I just felt like it was really similar to the hangover, except with women. I found the hangover films funnier.

Here's Logan's reaction to the news. Not sure whether this is good or bad for us:

"I was actually working on a 'Skyfall' scene that films in London tomorrow, so had to run from my computer to watch the nominations and then right back to 007. I'm enormously honored to have heard my name read alongside those other talented writers. It's a head-spinning company. 'Hugo' has been one of the great joys of my writing life and I'm beyond proud the movie has been so recognized."

Why would it be bad for us? You mean the fact that he's still working on the script even though shooting started more than 2 months ago? I think the plan has always been to fine-tune the screenplay during filming.

Even if the scene is filming tomorrow? It just seems a bit dangerous, a bit too close..

At least they have a screenwirter who can work on the script during filming - they didn't have one during the shooting of QOS. :)

Amen. Though I have my trust in a slight few other than those two, I'm guaranteed a good time with them. (And some oscar nods)

Agreed. @SaintMark I wasn't dissing your opinion, I just don't see how that film fit in that category. It was alright, but other films were far more original. You can't say Bridesmaids was..

Its probably a last minute re-write, or they may shoot multiple scenes depending on where they want to take the story. Logan may have also been laying out the scene for someone like Mendes, or how he pictured it. You don't know it was rewrites. Even though it likely was. Which is in fact, terrifying.

    Good point.

But I agree with @JWESTBROOK, for some reason it is 'terrifying'.

I'd love to see Gary take actor. I don't think he has an academy award win, does he?? George and Jean will be tough competition.

One hopes @Samuel, one hopes. I wish I could've seen it, but I have the novel here and I need to read it before I see the film. It's only just.

I kind of liked it seeing a movie about women by women getting nominated, would like to see it getting it some recognition. That is just me.

I love Melissa McCarthy and hopes she does well.

In the end it is all about favoritism, but the alternative is letting the general audience vote. ANd if I see some of the trolling that goes on on Imdb.com, I think the current system isnt perfect but beats the fan/trolls voting.

Drive is the most overlooked film this awards season. I know it's in for a few bits here and there but none of the top prizes.
  • this year nomination is nothing special......but next year 2013 will much better with Hobbits, TDKR, skyfall, etc should be better in terms of major awards

Yes, early 2011 was a real downer, but picked up in good speed near the end. Thank the lord for that. #:-S
