Brosnan's films and QOS are too low while SP is too high. Not bad otherwise.

    Thank you!

Diamonds is just so watchable. On an objective level it's a mess right from Ca-Ca-Cairo onwards but it has a sort of magnetic quality, I've watched it many times and I've never been bored. Thunderball too: it's riddled with flaws but I wouldn't change them, after a while you grow to love the flaws.

  • Octopussy in the top spot? - out of interest, any particular reason? - I very much enjoy the scenes set in Europe (train chase, Bond's race to the circus to stop the bomb detonating) but am not sure about the rest
  • For me it's Moore at its best. That movie entertained me from the first second until the last.

My favourite Moore film and the first Bond film I ever saw in the cinema so it has a special meaning to me.

Updating because I never got around to doing so after running through the films a few months back (which I also dropped the ball on writing up for the Bondathon thread; oops).

These are the ones that I'd put into a top ten for the franchise (in chronological order):

DN, FRWL, GF, TB, YOLT, OHMSS, DAF, LALD, QOS, SF

If I had to whittle that down even further to the ones that get me most excited:

DN, GF, YOLT, OHMSS, DAF, LALD, QOS

The three that get me least excited:

    LTK, TWINE, DAD

Then the middle 11; most of these are close enough to be in near constant flux...

TMWTGG, TSWLM, MR, FYEO, OP, AVTAK, TLD, GE, TND, CR, SP

...but TSWLM is comfortably ahead of the rest of them. It'd be my #11. And to round out the top half of the series...still CR probably. I'm really liking it less these days, however. MR is always solid. TND's stock is rising too. Part of me wants to go completely Zorin-level mad and slot AVTAK in there. But I'll leave well enough alone for now. CR it is, of course.

8/10 agreed on top ten then. 11/12 too. Which is the one that completes your top half?

I know it's strange, but I love DAF and genuinely think it's a good film. Infinitely rewatchable and clever.

1 and 2, GF and FRWL, are pretty well set. 3 and 4, OHMSS and CR, go back and forth. Same with 5 and 6 (DN and TSWLM). 7 and 8 are pretty solid, LALD and TB, respectively. 9 - 12 is an ongoing battle between YOLT, GE, QOS and SF, though over the past two years QOS seems to have settled securely into that ninth spot. 13 and 14 are solidly FYEO and LTK, in that order. TMWTGG and DAF fight for that 15th spot. Past those 15 it all depends on the viewing and the day, a kinetic jumble, save that SP is cemented into that last spot.
Interesting how we all organize it. "Kinetic jumble" describes large chunks of the whole series for me, which I can generally separate into top, middle, and bottom. At least top -- those top films are really something else. The great middle ground does ebb and flow.

    So the answer is GE.
Got it. I used to rate GE higher than I currently do, but most of the time I prefer TND these days. They're neck and neck though, as we were saying above.

    Few changes. Some blasphemous.

    1. GoldenEye 10
    2. Licence to Kill 9
    3. The Living Daylights 9
    4. Casino Royale 10
    5. Quantum of Solace 9 (would be #10 but I've been enjoying it too much lately)
    6. Thunderball 10
    7. Goldfinger 10
    8. On Her Majesty's Secret Service 10
    9. From Russia with Love 10
    10. Dr. No 10
    11. For Your Eyes Only 9
    12. Live and Let Die 9

    13. The World Is Not Enough 9
    14. Tomorrow Never Dies 9
    15. Diamonds Are Forever 8
    16. Die Another Day 8 (apart from the CGI)
    17. Skyfall 9
    18. Octopussy 8
    19. A View to a Kill 8 (I love the 80s)
    20. The Spy Who Loved Me 9 (needs a rewatch)
    21. Moonraker 8

    22. The Man with the Golden Gun 7 (the one Moore film that's too silly even for me)
    23. You Only Live Twice 7 (tighter second half and this one would be higher)

    24. Spectre 3 (wtf happened)

I really don't like ranking most of the Moore films so low as Sir Rog is my second favorite Bond. I've just been watching the others more lately.

If TND, QOS, and LTK got bumped higher and TMWTGG and DAF lower, this list would be great for me. As is, not too bad!
