    In a comparison, in roughly the same runtime of QoS, Bond has been through an intense car chase, with Mr. White in the boot of his car – eventually delivering him to M. CR had the fight in the toilets, and SF had a very dramatic first few minutes as well. That’s not to say I can’t enjoy a slow build-up, but again – four minutes only placing Bond at his location is a bit much.
    @Torgeirtrap, I understand your point. Personally, I very much enjoy those four minutes, as while the story doesn't progress much, I find there's a great deal to look at and hear, and since it's early in the film, it can afford to emphasize style over substance for a while (something which couldn't happen in the third act, for example). Obviously your mileage may vary (and indeed it does).

    I agree the film is too long. Analyzing things coldly, for the sake of improving the flow of the story, the business at London should've been flat out cut and several more scenes set at Blofeld's lair should've been added.

    Yes, I think you're right about the incentives, so the uninviting look of Mexico in the film does go against that, as well as the eye candy one would want from Bond, no matter how 'artistic' the approach of the filmmakers might be.

    I very much agree on the London scenes should've been flat cut. I think many of us that have issues with SP, have that part of the film as a prime example. If they had done that final part differently (and more exciting), I think the opinions of SP wouldn't be so divided.

    I hope we someday will hear more from Mendes and/or Hoytema regarding the cinematography, and the reasons behind the use of filters. I understand it's a "thing" for Hoytema, but it would be interesting to hear them go into detail on it, especially since it's so very noticeable.

    That really is my only beef with SP. The return to London...for Bond. The climax should have been a crosscut between Bond at Blofelds lair and M, Q outwitting Denbigh in London. And the Hinx fight should have been a final reel showdown as Bond/Madeleine return. Just like the old days when the henchman makes a surprise entry to attack Bond (Teehee..Wint/Kidd)

    My other ranking was in response to that article from a few days ago that listed YOLT as the number 1 Bond film of all time. I believe that article listed OHMSS and some of the other beloved Bonds around here quite low.

    Still, here's hoping someone actually has DAF as their number one Bond film.
    I'm reasonably sure there is at least one member here who has it at #1. Not sure though. @timmer maybe?

    I've tried to make a "Bond films I'm currently in the mood of rewatching" ranking, just to see how a list like that would look like. Quite surprised, to be honest. Added a few notes to some of the films, as well.

    1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service - (Missed to oportunity to watch it the last two Christmases, and hope to do it this year)
    2. For Your Eyes Only - (One of my favourite Moore films. Need to watch it again soon)
    3. Diamonds Are Forever - (Really in the mood for fun Bond these days!)
    4. Live and Let Die - (Been on my list of films to rewatch for quite some time now)

    6. Octopussy - (Been a bit of OP talk here lately, and this was my favourite growing up)

    Finally someone putting TLD where it belongs, I don't get the appeal for that movie around here.
    Afganistan part might be the worst 20 minutes in Bond history, also that war/toy room gun fight in Morocco is incredibly bizarre.
    I like LTK much more.

    Finally someone putting TLD where it belongs, I don't get the appeal for that movie around here.
    Afganistan part might be the worst 20 minutes in Bond history, also that war/toy room gun fight in Morocco is incredibly bizarre.

    SP from the torture scene on is pretty lame. If the whole film were like that it’d give DAD a run for its money for last place on my ranking. Luckily, there’s stuff in the first half I do enjoy.

    I wish I could enjoy SP as much. I really do. DAD - even for it's issues, is a much more enjoyable film for me. One reason being Brosnan in fine form. Craig in SP didn't do it for me.

    The PTS, SPECTRE meeting in Rome, Mr. White’s death scene, and the train fight with Hinx all qualify as significant highlights in my book. The only really big one in DAD for me would be the swordfight.

    I liked the helicopter fight; other than that, the PTS is a bit boring, IMO. The Mr. White scene is good (shame he didn't feature more!), the train fight alright, and the Rome meeting…well, I'm not too crazy about that.

    In DAD, I enjoy the PTS, the sword fight, the Cuba part (yes, actually), and the final fight between Graves and Bond. DAD has it's very obvious bad parts too, of course.

    Fair enough. They both certainly are lower-tier Bond films for my tastes. Besides the clunky scenes with MI6, I enjoy SP pretty well up through the train fight. But it falls apart pretty badly after that. It certainly has its dull moments in both halves, though. I used to like it a lot more than I do now, but these things happen. It, along with other low-tier Bond films, still are much better to me than other average action films out there.

    I'd no doubt have a better opinion of SP, had that last half been better. It's actually a film that reaches it's peak at that helicopter fight, IMO, and there's still a lot to watch. Hope they can turn things around with Bond 25, and make a film that delivers in all departments (from cinematography to music, from plot/story to casting).

    First time I have EVER ranked the Bond films. I could never decide where to put TSWLM or TB. I watch them often, love them dearly, but never felt totally fulfilled by either.

    TLD has always been one of my favourites but over the years it has slipped in my estimation.

    Tried but failed to find anything to like about LTK.

    Never waivered in my total love for Bond's slightly crazy Japanese mission.

    When I was a lad, I saw it at the cinema in a double bill with FRWL. Years after its release, but even so, it was a seminal moment for me. Ninjas coming down the ropes, Little Nellie, the volcano, the poison dripping down the wire, piranha fish eating the bad guys.
    For me as a kid this was everything Bond should be. I've changed my views a little since, but YOLT will always be the one.

    FRWL has always been one of my favourites. In truth it may be lower than it should. This is why I hate trying to rank them ;)
