    2016 is running out, so i'm trying to step up my 20th anniversary celebratory Bondathon. Still in the Rog era, i'm up to:

    For Your Eyes Only
    Similar to Octopussy, only For Your Eyes Only has already gone on to become one of my favourite films of the series. With the exception of Bibi, Maggie Thatcher and Max the parrot, I have grown to enjoy this one. My highlight of the film shas to be the car chase. I would like to think that Bouquet's (the runner up to D'Abo as my favourite Bond girl) laugh is genuine, as Moore's line "I love a drive in the country, don't you" seems to come from nowhere.

    FYEO and LALD.

    What better to spend the night with 2 highly entertaining adventures with Sir Roger. Starting with FYEO, where Moore plays his world-weary gentleman spy. Flying a helicopter, driving a 2CV in a chase, skiing down a bobsleigh track and versus motorcycles, taking part in a major shootout, going underwater and finally escalating a huge mountain, Sir Roger does it all while wise cracking one liners, meeting a super cool ally (Columbo) and bedding some sexy women. And that score, it may be a very weird Bond soundtrack, but boy does it have flash of genius (during the car chase, ski chase and the 'Submarine' cue).

    Finishing with Sir Moore's first outing, where he faces the largest amount of interesting villains in the franchise, and beds Madame @DarthDimi (I mean, Jane Seymour). A killer soundtrack from George Martin - so funky, and a badass rendition of the Bond theme, and the theme song is a total classic. Some very cool action here too - the boat chase, the double decker bus chase, airport chase with Mrs Bell. First apparition of my favorite character in the franchise, JW Pepper, and he never fails to crack me up (same as in TMWTGG).

    The ski chase and car chase in FYEO are some of the most enjoyable action scenes, i know of in film. Very impressive stunt work aswell, but that really goes with all the Glen films.

    IMO, Conti's FYEO score is by far the worst of the series. Never has music weakened my enjoyment of a film as much as that score has.

    Conti's score has grown on me a lot but I still have mixed feelings when watching the film. I think that the score is amazing during the car chase and in the romantic scenes, especially in Cortina and in the underwater scenes. I also like the traditional Greek elements in the Corfu scenes... However, I find that the track during the ski chase sounds very dated and a bit too psychodelic... But overall it is a fine and very memorable soundtrack ...

    John Barry is a legend (and not just in Bond), but he scored many other Bond films, it is nice to have a brief break from him, so he can return later. I like Conti's funky Bond theme, especially in the car chase. I'll take this score over the three bars of the Bond theme scores we have in the more recent films. Spectre at least, was a step in the right direction, with the PTS.

    Skyfall - My first viewing post SP. Unfortunately, it was also the least satisfying experience I've had with it thus far. Spoiler alert : it has fallen out of my top ten for the first time.

    Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed it. But the beautiful visuals just can't completely cover up all of the weaknesses anymore. Bond not drowning, Silva's escape plan, the Home Alone ending, etc...

    It would all be much easier to swallow (just as it is in other Bond movies) if the film wasn't trying so hard to be a drama. Mendes wants to have his cake and eat it too, but it's not easy to balance the fantasical elements with the more serious moments.

    Plus, the hand to hand combat scenes are a step down from the previous two entries. I feel bad for mentioning it, as they are on par or better than some other Bond films, but you can't help but notice when watching the movies in chronological order.

    Everyone involved gave great performances though. Craig portrayed "depressed" Bond, abusing booze and pills, to perfection. After a long night of hitting it hard, he's right back at the bar the next morning. Damn. And he obviously pays for it when he has to get back into shape again. His resurrection into the old 007 by the end of the film is great to watch.

    Still, I liked the movie better when it was a standalone adventure. I'm sure Silva's abundant resources make more sense after the retcon, but it does take something away from his character. His revenge is cheapened a bit now as he was just under orders from Blofeld the whole time.

    I'm sorry to hear that your assessment of SF has declined on this recent watch. I'm thankful that this hasn't (yet) happened for me. I just ignore the retcon whenever I watch it and am still taken by all the positives. The latest entry was so unmemorable, and the retcon of Silva so unconvincing, that it's easy for me to ignore. I agree on the weak hand to hand combat (the Komodo scene is cringe worthy compared to the excellence in Qos-Slate and CR-Obano).

    No matter how hard I try, this is not a Bond film which I look forward to. The opening free fall is still impressive, but then we get those goofy shots of Jaws flapping his arms. The Venice boat chase is another good sequence, but this one capped off with the sillyness of the Bondola going onto dry land. Even the other boat chase... no, actually I think the other chase gets off lightly. That would also be the last time in which the 007 theme is used, that piece of music is long overdue for a comeback.

    I tend to think of Moonraker as Bond at its most decorative and superficial. That said the visuals themselves are often lovely and I do enjoy the film in an easy-watch-on-a-lazy afternoon sort of way.

    @Birdleson. I adored SF when I walked out the cinema but parts of it, on repeated viewings, seem far too contrived. Obviously there's Silva's plan, which has been discussed to death. However, there's also the Tennyson scene and the "sometimes the old ways are the best" line.

    I really enjoyed it on my last watch. The visuals are indeed superb on blu ray, and Moore is totally flip and cool as ever, perhaps realizing that he had to be given the outrageous circumstances. The supporting cast is great too. I just can't handle Dolly and the romance.

    The last Bond film I watched was Goldfinger while I was tucked up in bed with a cold last week. Not just one of the best Bond films I've watched, but one of the best films I've watched too! :)

    While not one of my favourites, I have to admit it's one hell of a classic and iconic entry.

    There's a lot of charm to the film (Goldfinger), which is why its endured for so long.

    I'll always love Goldfinger I think. It's one of the first ones I saw, and it's probably my second-most watched Bond film at this point. I know some on this site aren't crazy about it, but for me, it stands as one of the best and most important films in the series.

    Sometime in the next few days I have to watch On Her Majesty's Secret Service - a Bond classic and a Christmas classic!

    Goldfinger is THE Bond film, with so much iconic imagery, but it's not one that holds my interest.

    Interesting that some people aren't that into Goldfinger! For me, I love the atmosphere of it and the chemistry between Bond and the villain.

    The chemistry is definitely there and palpable. It's perhaps up there as the best from the Connery era in that respect.

    For me, GF suffers on account of one word (or is that place?). Kentucky.

    When the film hits the Bluegrass State, also famous for its chicken, it collapses to boredom. Even the romance with Pussy can't save it for me.

    I must watch it again, and see if I can get a new perspective, because I feel somewhat ashamed about not being able to enjoy a classic in my favourite franchise.

    I have also watched Moonraker. I am also having a cold and was a little bit lazy. I find that the cinematography, score and the overall look of the film are great. The film has some nice moments but I feel that several sequences are not put together very well. There are just too many changes in locations and I really don't like the globetrotting. I must say that I quite enjoyed the space sequences but I felt that the development, especially Jaws' turn to the good side good have been made better. Of course the space laser battle is stupid but I found it really funny...

    @bondjames Hmm, I do see what you mean there. I think sometimes when you watch a film and feel like a part goes slowly you don't feel as great about it afterwards. Let me know what you think after a rewatch. :D

    Will Do @Agnes_007. What I notice with Bond films is sometimes I can watch one and be bored, and other times the same film feels so fresh (perhaps because my expectations are lower due to my previous experience). I'm glad about that, because most of the films continue to have really high rewatch value, which is a great thing about this franchise.

    @bondjames There's no film that proves that more than Quantum of Solace, that film seems to go higher in everyone's estimations each time they rewatch it! It is a really good thing about the Bond films.

    Yes, you're correct about QoS @Agnes_007. I knew that would be the case the first time I saw it (because I, probably like everyone else, missed 50%+ of what was going on during the action scenes!). In all seriousness, that is definitely a film that has gone up the rankings among Bond aficionados.

    I wonder if it's doing the same out there among the general public though? With SP linking back to it, perhaps more general fans will check it out. I hope so.

    @bondjames Good point, I think it definitely deserves a re-evaluation. The action scenes are a little difficult to keep up with. :)) But there's a lot of good things about QoS, a kick ass Bond girl, a slimy villain and as usual a great performance from Craig.

    Agreed. It really is an excellent, tightly wound action oriented Bond film.
