    QoS gets a lot of flack for having too much action, and SF, to some, for not having enough! But I believe QoS shouldn't be overlooked fo drama either. Some of its best scenes aren't action. The opening interrogation of Mr White, Greene and Leiter meeting Greg Beam, Bond visiting Mathis, and (my favourite scene) Bond and Mathis on the plane. Bond meets Greene at the party, Mathis death, M confronting Bond at the hotel, Bond instructing Camille on how to kill, final scene with Yusef in Russia. The Opera sequence has been righly lauded, one the series highlights, and I love the shootout that ends it. The action is a bonus, and it is far more exciting than SF, which, yes, tries to place character over action, but I don't find the characters that interesting, and its all too low key and underwhelming, and I find the relationship between Bond and M far more compelling in QoS than its meant to be in SF!

    But external factors did contribute to SF's box office success. The movie by itself sure as hell didn't. Just extrapolate the BO numbers with the films 40 or so years prior; in fact you don't even need to go that far back.

    That being said, SF will be associated with many things; the death of M, the return of MP and Q, the one where Bond falls from a train, Adele etc. However, the 50th anniversary was played up massively, the Olympics segment/stunt was the mother of all marketing tools that punctuated an already agressive marketing campaign and; of course Adele who was at the apex of her popularity singing the theme song all got people hyped and got people who may not have seen the movie at all curious enough to actually go and see it.

    To give the movie itself some credit I'll also add that the film on its own was well received and many people enjoyed it but let's be real here, the film itself wasn't solely responsible for grossing a $1.1Billion. No way.

    I agree. There's a difference between finding a lot to enjoy and acting like the problems aren't there to begin with. I also don't really like how people keep finding "the new OHMSS", when there has never been and probably will never be a film even close to OHMSS. Some people put CR on that level, but I don't agree with that opinion myself.

    QOS is, sadly, seen as one of the worst entries in the series. Not on the forums though, there it has a small but avid fan base.

    That's basically what I mean and why I compare it to OHMSS: OHMSS was also seen as one of the worst entries (due to many factors) but over time it's strengths made it a fan favourite. QoS is a very different movie but the definitely growing appreciation of it is what I am comparing to.

    I am not saying "it's the new OHMSS". That's what Bond 25 *could* become if the do it right.

    There are problems in QoS - I am not ignoring them. That's why I rate CR and SF higher and QoS as Craig's #3. I just don't mind the plot holes at all - all that really disturbs me is it's editing and for me that's the only flaw that won't fade for me at all ... like OHMSS's main flaw (to me: Lazenby) won't fade.

    What I noticed in regards to QoS is that since SP I rate it much higher and definitely enjoy it more. The flaws of SP keep me from rewatching the movie but changed my feelings towards QoS which I appreciate a whole lot more these days since SP premiered a year ago. In general I tend to rate CR, QoS and SF even higher due do SP because it's third act ruins the movie the same way for me as the second half of DAD did. Which is a pity because all the good stuff is wasted on those 2 entries. Maybe I should just create my own cut of SP and remove everything that bugs me and I think then I would really appreciate it.

    Anyway - listening to the QoS soundtrack at this very moment and that is one thing that shines in QoS for sure! Much better than the soundtracks of SF and SP.

    Interesting point, but if you mean the general public i would tentatively disagree. I think Skyfall was simply too popular and well liked to be forgotten so quickly. Everyone was talking about it, and despite so much venom on here towards it (by a minority though - see Gustav Graves' top 10 Bond films competion), overall I think it will remain one of the most popular Craig Bonds.

    It was an event movie because of the Anniversary. I remember people liking it even before actually seeing it.
    The hype passes. CR is going down GF's road. SF is going down TB's road.

    Also it's only 4 years since SF.

    I think that CR-QoS-SF-SP map pretty closely to DN-FRWL-GF-TB.

    It then would be ironic if Bond 25 were based on the novel YOLT.
    Something about the interview:

    He embraces the narrative of how he and Craig were the real writers. Yet, eight years ago, in a story on the Rotten Tomatoes website, he took credit for hiring Joshua Zetumer to do the rewrites during filming. Zetumer's hiring was also reported elsewhere during filming of the movie. I guess Forster forgot all about that.

    I never understood how Zetumer was writing during the writers' strike.
