I will say it again. Christmas Jones is one of the few good things in TWINE.

Me too. I don't understand all the hate for TWINE. It is a pretty intelligent Bond film if you can overlook Dr. Jones. The plot and its twists are really good. Elektra is great, too. I find it to be much more interesting than the generic TND.

    Totally agree here @GBF :-).

Watch Wild Things for the definitive Denise Richards film. An outstanding advert for her assets.

And *surprise, surprise*, @Marketto007 's 12 points go to :-P.........TWINE! On the whole, the film ended 7 times in the TOP 3. And 4 more times a TOP 5 spot (Total: 11 times TOP 5!):

YOLT was actually my number 1 back in 2012, but now it has fallen to 19th i believe. The last 4-5 viewings has been pretty dull to be honest.

I used to like it a lot more too; I'm not sure what happened. Every viewing has made it weaker for me, and it's #17 in my list right now; used to be in my Top 10.

THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH made a brief appearance in my top ten in 2014; now it's consigned to my bottom five.

Really thought TWINE was great on seeing it at the cinemabut I just think that's the joy of a new Bond movie. Since, it lies at the bottom for me. Not good enough and too many soap opera moments.

So now 2 of my top 10 have appeared (TND & TWINE). 8 to go, and we're still not at the overall top 10 yet.

YOLT was actually my number 1 back in 2012, but now it has fallen to 19th i believe. The last 4-5 viewings has been pretty dull to be honest.

For me it's also Connery's portrayal as 007 in YOLT. It's just so...wooden, so staccato. As if he's merely raking up his lines without any emotion and without a jovial bit of improvisation.

Part of it is because I never liked Roald Dahl's dialogue from the screenplay. In many ways it sounds like the worst screenplays of Neal Purvis & Robert Wade. Also director Lewis Gilbert to me wasn't a dominant director like Terence Young or Guy Hamilton. Gilbert's biggest luck with TSWLM to me is that people didn't see it as a remake of YOLT, because it came after the bad TMWTGG and an almost 3-year gap.

Just compare it with Maibaum's dialogue from TB. Especially the feisty, tense dialgue between Bond and Fiona Volpe! Man, this is stuff you wanna hear!:
James Bond: My dear girl, don't flatter yourself. What I did this evening was for Queen and country. You don't think it gave me any pleasure, do you?
Fiona: But of course, I forgot your ego, Mr. Bond. James Bond!! The one where he has to make love to a woman, and she starts to hear heavenly choirs singing. She repents, and turns to the side of right and virtue...
    [she steps on Bond's foot]
Fiona: ... but not this one!

And it was completely absent in YOLT. It was the first of three 'subway films' (referring to these ridiculous little transportation trains). It's just one giant, big, exposition of production design. And it shows. There's no soul! The Bond girls, although looking exotically Japanese, they come across like flat pancakes. Even Aki's death looked rather fake and a sheer example of bad acting skills.

Then there's Kissy: "It's going downnn.....into the volcano!!" Ughhh, girl, you sound like you are having an orgasm dear Kissy Suzuki.

YOLT is the prime example of the Bond franchise in decline. The only thing EON wanted is to make it even bigger than TB. Man, how on Earth can you do that without sacrificing other aspects of filmmaking, like good screenplays, feisty dialogue and believable characters. You just can't.

I even think that Connery looked more 'fresh' in DAF than in YOLT. There's a slight air of "Glad to be back" in that film.

I remember it having no points for quite a long time in the beginning... TWINE is certainly one of the more controvertial Bond film.

Disagree but I like TWINE best from the Brosnan era. Realized that when I recently saw them again. GE was once my favourite but except the tank race it lost much of it's appeal to me.

I also want to express my appreciation to GG for organizing this poll - it's really interesting and suspenseful the way it's done. Good idea!

  • It's interesting that TWINE is almost like a cult Bond film, those who appreciate it seem to really love it, others just don't quite get it.

I have a feeling that my personal favourite, QOS, is next for the chop, but maybe it can hang on and beat LALD...

The thing I like best about Gustav's poll so far is that we are on track for every Bond actor and every decade to feature in the top 10.

TWINE is middling Bond for me, which means there's still lots to like. It's definitely above my least favorites, but also definitely unable to reach my favorites. This could change in the future, but I suspect if so, it would be negative. Currently #16 in my list.
