    That's not controversial in the slightest. No Bond actor has so few defenders over here than Brosnan.

    Though DAD is admittedly terrible in places, you should at least give GE a shot. If you enjoy that one, TND won't harm you either. TWINE is almost as despised as DAD, but it has its defenders, including myself.

    I keep telling myself I will watch Brosnan but cannot bring myself to endure it. If I pluck up courage enough I will indeed take your advice & check out GE or TND. In all honesty I did try to watch one of the films when it was shown on TV a few weeks ago but switched off shorty after the PTS. I can't remember which one it was but Bond & another agent had broken into a Soviet military facility of some description.

    That was the start of GE...try TND first...the PTS is one of my faves and its a fast moving romp...

    Principally I am a fan of the literary Bond (Flemings Bond) so the films always have & always will come second to that. That's not to say I don't enjoy the film franchise (with obvious omissions). I just cannot see Brosnan as Bond, he does not convince & I cannot get past it. I don't feel I am missing anything having not seen his films nor IMO does it make me any less a fan.

    That said the next time TND is on TV I will endeavour to watch it in the hope I can overcome my prejudices.

    I thought Brosnan was miscast (And still do!) But I watch all the Bond movies. Even his! There are minor nuggets to be found in 3 of them. DAD though, it is the only Bond film I have switched off well before the end!

    I don't suppose it helped that I chose to watch DAD (I hadn't seen any forum reviews beforehand) as my introduction to Brosnan's Bond. I did watch it all way to the end though & was not impressed.

    Just watch the other 3 films,stag,from a Bond fan's point of view and give us your critical opinion...you can then contribute to threads involving these films...the other 3 films are better,trust me...

    Yes , I nearly did a double-take reading here, that an honored member with substantial post count, had actually not only not seen all the films many times over, but actually hadn't seen some of them at all !!!!
    I am just so used to everyone here being thoroughly conversant on the minutiae of every film.
    That's what gives this place it's charm. We are all uber Bond knowledgeable, especially when it comes to the films.
    In the real world I am surrounded by people that are very impressed with themselves if they can rattle off the names of even 5 Bond actors, let alone rhyme off all 24 films in order and such, which is of course impossible outside Bond core fanbase.
    We are the hardcore!!

    Not slagging the honorable @stag of course...but I nearly had an enbolism, when I read that bit about not having even seen all the films, on this site of all places

    He will watch them,just needs a kick up the arse to motivate him after his 1 experience of Brosnan being DAD....it can only get better stag !!
    He is mentally scarred by that film,needs the MI6 psychiatry department to be able to re-enter the Brosnan field...

    @stag, I would quite honestly start with GE before TND or TWINE. It's the beginning of Brosnan's era, so you can chart his development over time, and it's the best made film of the lot too, so you hopefully won't be put off from watching the others like you might if you were starting with TND or TWINE instead, which have cringe moments galore.

    Agreed @0BradyM0Bondfanatic7. Actually, I think TWINE is slightly better than TND. Simply because it's Brosnan's best performance as 007.

    By the way, we have arrived at the milestone of 50 (!!) voters.

    Can't say I agree there, @Gustav_Graves. I'll take scenes of Brosnan's Bond mourning Paris' dead body in the hotel room after his cold dispatch of Dr. Kaufman or any time he displays his complete disregard for Carver's attempts at intimidation than anything in TWINE, especially not one of the most cringe-tastic moments in the entire franchise where Brosnan goes into pain-face overload while Bond fights Renard at the end.

    That sequence is like watching two senior citizens meekly wrestling on the floor over ownership of the last carton of prune juice in the lunch room fridge. It's the stuff that nightmares are made of.

    DAD is certainly Brosnan's best performance, for me. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to save the film.

    If it wasnt for Electra ,then TWINE would have been a serious problem....Renard ,for all the build up,is awful,and they only chose Robert Carlyle to cash in on his success in 'The Full Monty'...seriously miscast.

    While watching the most cringe-inducing parts of TWINE, I wish I was Renard, if only so that I wouldn't feel any pain.

    My first 6 are definitive. After that I have trouble. Getting on it but I do feel like I have to get it 'right'.

    I will endeavour to watch the next time they are shown on TV. TBH the only reason I watched DAD is because I got the DVD from poundland! This is for another thread of course but, while I have seen him in a couple of good non Bond films I remain of the opinion that Brosnan was just not & could never be 007. I don't wish to light the blue touch paper & of course am only expressing my own opinion but he simply gurned & posed his way through without a shred of of the underlying menace which even Sir Rog's lighthearted take managed to convey. Sorry & I don't wish to offend but that's how I feel about his Bond. I may change my mind of course if I make the effort to watch his other outings but poor old Brozzer has a mountain of prejudice to overcome!

    You won t change your mind. Seeing them all will only consolidate your views. DAD is the worst, but the other three aren t much better. And Brosnan is Brosnan.
