  A trip to Wikipedia shows me that she was the actress formerly known as Vanity. Saw her in two movies way back when ("The Last Dragon" and "Action Jackson"). You're right, not the greatest actress ever. But she was certainly a looker.

  Just learned that movie diresctor Andrzej Zulawski has died, aged 75. I must confess that I haven't seen any of his movies.

  You bet me to it. RIP Umberto Eco. His essay on the literary Bond was an amazing piece of work. It's funny to think that he became this huge writer, while I always know him more as a semiotician.

  His culture was immense as was his body of studies: James Bond, Superman, Mafalda, Dylan Dog, Aristotle, James Joyce, Borges, medieval history, linguistics, etc.

  Very sad news - he was certainly a great Bond scholar and I believe the inventor of the term 'Bondoloigist' which I've latterly latched onto!

  Sad to hear of the death of Prof. Keith Jeffery. He was one of my History lecturers at university. He also wrote the official history of MI6 up to 1949. Obituary in today's Times.

  My sympathies, @Dragonpol. Some of my favorite people and my biggest influences have been my teachers/professors, and I'm sure that this was the same for you. He seemed to be an impressive man.

  RIP Dougie Slocombe. A very fine body of work you leave the film industry. Also worked with three Bond stars over the course of his career from what I can tell.

  Have also just seen the news of the passing of George Kennedy, star of various disaster movies, Cool Hand Luke and the Naked Gun movies. I, in particular, loved his turn in one of the stories in Creepshow 2. Another sad loss, he was 91.

  Mine is a little more obscure, unless you like horror films. For me, it is as Capt. Ashland in Death Ship. Ashland is the captain of the cruiseliner that is struck, and sunk by the Death Ship. When the survivors, which include Ashland, board the Death Ship, the ship gradually takes of Ashland's mind, leading to Ashland changing his clothes into nazi regalia.
