@mcdonbb , finally, I'm not the only one that has SPECTRE dead last. And I suffered that initial wave of abuse for it. In fact, if you switched LIVE AND LET DIE and TOMORROW NEVER DIES, we'd be similarly clustered (so long as is THUNDERBALL in or near your Top Ten).

I currently have Spectre right around 18-19-20 last I checked, so we aren't far off. All in all I was frustrated by it because there were flashes and moments that I absolutely loved. In fact, as the blind, die hard Bond fan I am, I'd say all in all I did really like it, but it's just that so many films above it I really quite love.

I'll see it again when it hits Blu-ray and readjust my rankings as needed.

And that's the odd thing. I left the theatre with a smile on my face and enjoyed my time. BUT because of the talent involved and what we actually got ...and the limiting ending and damage to previous films it bottomed out on my list.

IMO disagree as some may DAD and QOS and TND at least accomplished what they set out to do.

Updated ranking after many viewings of Spectre:

    1. Skyfall (a constant euphoria every rewatch)
    2. Casino Royale (A perfect film)
    3. Spectre (again, constant euphoria)
    4. Goldeneye (one of my first)
    5. Goldfinger (Incredibly fun, quintessential Bond)
    6. From Russia With Love (best of the Connery era, if a little less fun to watch compared to GF
    7. The Spy Who Loved Me (one of my first Moore films, and probably the best)
    8. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (criminally underrated outside the fandom, made Bond who he is)
    9. The Living Daylights (aside from slightly lacklustre villains, it's Dalton at his best)
    10. Quantum of Solace (moving its way up my rankings, some excellent moments and concepts)
    11. Live and Let Die (flawed, silly, but a classic joyride the entire way through)
    12. The World is Not Enough (again flawed, but many interesting concepts and stellar performances (minus Richards))
    13. Dr. No (nothing wrong with it, just a great film)
    14. Thunderball (a tad slow. Not Excellent, but very good)
    15. Moonraker (an immensely camp, immensely entertaining film that doesn't live up to its potential. Not to mention a BRILLIANT score from Barry at his best)
    16. Octopussy (underrated, moving its way up)
    17. Tomorrow Never Dies (way too low here, high rewatch value, equipped with an unfortunate soap opera love triangle)
    18. License to Kill (I don't mind the darkness, it's the execution here that hits me the wrong way. But not bad.)
    19. You Only Live Twice (It's ok. Connery didn't want to be there)
    20. A View to a Kill (I used to love it. Some nice moments with Moore and Macnee, Walken is great, but not much else)
    21. Die Another Day (a lot to love, a lot to hate)
    22. For Your Eyes Only (a lot to hate. The rest is OK)
    23. The Man With the Golden Gun (the only thing keeping it from being last is Christopher Lee)
    24. Diamonds are Forever (Shirley Bassey's theme song is the only thing that makes me regret this decision)

Very interesting list, you're a Craig fan, aren't you?
You just have OHMSS, both Dalton efforts and in a lesser degree FYEO a little too low otherwise it's very good indeed.

I'm pretty sure that in 2002 when DAD came out, people would have laughed at you for placing it last too... because the mentality of a Bond forum is always going to be in support of the newest Bond flick. I think you were treated unfairly Birdleson, Spectre definitely was a huge disappointment and I see no issue with placing it last. I just tend to dislike some others more, but Spectre was no doubt a mediocre film at best.

I have always felt that DAD is the worst Bond film, it was the worst first viewing experience of a Bond film I've ever had, I was so disappointed.

Why is TB silly? I considerate it to be a more serious Bond and close to the book.

Not saying the movie is silly, just that the silly ME rates it very highly despite some serious themes. The silly me love the cheese in it (The jet pack, the water cannons, the cheap rear screen, the sped up climax, etc.).

Spectre could go higher with more viewings. I really enjoyed this a lot.

I know it seems harsh, regarding SP, and I definitely enjoyed it more this last time. But I became so bored in the second half. Where as, for once, I had loads of fun with every other Bond film this time out.

I indeed don't get your rating. It doesn't seem harsh. It IS harsh. Very very harsh.

I truly loved the entire Morocco sequence, evoking a lot of 'Doctor No' and 'Colonel Sun'.

You know what gets me bored and tired?

I wouldn't say it's harsh, @Birdleson. It's your least favorite film in the series, and there's nothing wrong with that.

@Gustav_Graves, I've edited your post and thrown your pictures in spoiler tags. As I and others have pointed out, it makes loading pages rather tough to do at times, so again, please ensure that you spoiler tag them. Thanks!

I agree with the CGI windsurfing and everything that goes with it (and you don't need to convince me with those other images, I'v never seen a Rock picture, or most of the modern action films, aside form Bond I'm pretty discriminate), but I enjoy the first half of DAD so much that it rises.
I completely agree. The first half is superb, and Brosnan's acting shines here.

Odd rating. SPECTRE is more in-keeping with say LALD, TB & TSWLM in tone. Which are high on the list.

Very strange. Would love to get the reasons behind it.

  • According to critics, fans and the audience in general (not my personal taste), I think this may be a standard/universal ranking:

    1.- CR
    2.- GF
    3.- FRWL
    4.- SF
    5.- DN

    6.- OHMSS
    7.- GE

    17.-TND
    18.- DAF
    19.- OP
    20.-TMWTGG
    21.- TWINE

    22.- MR
    23.- DAD
    24.- AVTAK

*NSNA would be in the top of this last group and CR 1967 would be the very last of the list.
