Wait a few beats @Germanlady. @jason is combing through ever single review trying desperately to find anything negative in them about Craig he can find to post here and on other sites where he is ragging on the film and twisting stats. Sad when someone is so desperate to get rid of a Bond, that he very obviously wants a Bond film to fail. The mostly good reviews are making him miserable

I wish he'd just come out and say he hates Craig and be done with it.

Right. There are other posters on this site who don't like Craig's Bond either, but I never take away from there posts that they want the film itself to fail.

If that is the case, our reward is, that the positive reviews do make him miserable, as he deserves it, when that is ALL he is looking for, whilst dressing it up as being relalistic.

But we have had those people before. They come and go.

Question for anyone who has read the spoilers or seen the film!

I did not like SF that much, I liked Qos and CR much better. They claim this film isn't on the level SF was at though. Is this coming from a standard audience perspective? How does it look for a die hard classic Bond fan??

The movie looks like it could be Craig's best Bond film and Top 5 Best Bond films.. Maybe it's just me, but from what I have seen I feel like this movie could be really good.

So how does this place in Craig's Bond series so far???

    My list is

    CR, Qos, SF in order
I don't like any of the reboot films, but this one I think will be the exception. Haven't seen it, but have read all the leaks, and followed production.
This could be "the big one 007".
This could be Craig's first good Bond film, in which case I do graciously extend invite to do a couple more.

The thing is I love Skyfall, I accept it's flaws but it's still my no.2 entry but I certainly didn't want more of the same again.

The big emotional moment of that film was never going to be topped in this film or any subsequent entry, you can only do that kind of thing once, so those saying it lacks the depth of SF, what were they expecting?

Mendes and Craig set out the stall at the end of SF, to me this is where I hoped it was going, bringing Craig's interpretation into a more classic Bond friendly film and letting him cut loose with a spring in his step rather than mope about for the duration of the film.

Bond should always be entertaining and absurd, the dark gritty moments were needed to introduce the character and see the moments that made the man but now we are there and I just want to enjoy where he goes now.

SPECTRE for me from the reviews seems to be going in just that direction. I don't want Chinatown or Tinker Tailor, I love both those films but I'll watch them when I want that kind of thing, with Bond I want to be entertained, why does it have to have depth all the time I want to be entertained first and foremost.

If being your Dad's Bond, well I'm 43 so I guess it's my Bond and if it is so be it.

One thing that bothers me is people complaining about to much action...
Same thing with QOS, "OMG there was just to much action"..

This is a James Bond film, he is a spy and an assassin. What did you expect him to do? SF to me was lacking action. They had the opening sequence, fight with Patrice and the ending (which wasn't fast paced at all).

Not trying to pick SF a part but I dont see why every review says it's lame considered to how grand SF was!

I loved how Craig was a total badass in CR and Qos but in SF he was injured and didn't even pass the test to be field ready.. Bond seemed way out of shape.
That scene where he climbs up the elevator and you can tell he is struggling is funny because compare that to the whole chase sequence in CR at the construction site.

In CR he was jumping off of cranes and going through walls, I don't even know how many "miles" he ran in the movie but he did a lot. SF he was tired throughout the whole movie and struggling.. I really hope in this film we see Bond back to how he was. A badass and an elite spy.

    @smitty

    You are very unfair.

I am not combing through reviews. I have just provided some additional links to reviews that Gustav Graves didn't catch. If they happen to be mixed it is not my fault. And I said "don't kill the messenger" in an earlier post.
Furthermore Gustav Graves seems desperate to paint a perfect picture of reviews while omitting 3 and 2 stars out of 5 reviews. I only counterbalance things a bit, because around here that is necessary!
And I have talked to Gustav about it, so that's settled. Just for your information.

Are you so blind to the reality that there are not only 5 star reviews that you have to leash out on me now??

Furthermore I only given the RT and Metacritic scores for information. If they are not as high as you like them to be it is not my fault either. I have not twisted anything, but you are in claiming that I am!!

And Shardlake coming along applauding just makes sense, now I wait for doubleoego to join the chorus.

It is disappointing, I was actually thinking very highly of you, up to now.

Well, dwell in the 5 star reviews and ignore the others that don't suit your worldview.
I thought you are above such things.

    @Germanlady
yes I try to be the voice of reason, but that's sometimes virtually impossible here, I just happen to have wrong opinions on the Craig-era and the Brosnan-era.
I am quite nervous and worried that Spectre will not live up to my expectations and I have said so repeatedly. I expected more from you as well. You too can dwell in bliss and ignore the facts.

But don't worry I'm done, it's no use.
"they come and they go" your words. No wonder if people like you give them such a hard time they'll eventually leave. Shame on you.

Spectre looks way better than skyfall imo
but if people are trying to paint perfect picture, ignoring a more holistic view, you're right.

There's no such thing as perfection when it comes to films anyway, at least not for the most part. Most films, especially Bond films, have some truly cringeworthy moments as well as notable excellent moments, regardless of what some armchair critic (whether he works for the Guardian, the Telegraph or some no name blog) thinks.

Everyone on this forum will have time to discuss and debate the pros and cons of this film (there will inevitably be multiple threads opened here painfully discussing every minutiae) in a few weeks or more likely in a month's time.

At the moment some euphoria is to be expected here as release date nears, in particular due to the long (and totally unnecessary) 3 year wait, and all the nonsense that fans have had to put up with, including leaks, press garbage etc.

We'll all simmer down in a little while.

@BondJasonBond006 Don't worry once the dust settles and the initial euphoria subsides, the members here will chime in with varied critical opinion.
You won't be alone if per chance you don't love the film.

Exactly, none of us should give a damn about critics anyway, eveyone should have their personal opinion, what a critic wants in a movie is not necessarily what I want

For sure it took time. The movie had entertainment value, so I can understand a natural inclination to work with what one liked about the film.

However, in my own case, I posted my first scathing review the next day. :) There was much I did not like about the film right from the get go.
In fact I think I subjected the poor girl (complete stranger) sitting to my left in theatre, to my first negative grumbly comments. She didn't bite. Said she quite liked it. I countered with " I miss Roger Moore" which is not true at all, but it made my point in a roundabout way.
Mind you I "disliked" the movie so much I paid at least 5 more times in theatre to see it. ;)

I am hardcore Bond fan, but when it comes to the reboot era, a very critical one.

And why wouldn't they? They have enough great reviews to show of AND from some, that really count. We all would do the same. Its about marketing, as we know. And here it seems sometimes, that people get off of the mixed or few negative ones, so its good to be reminded, there is A LOT of positive stuff around, WHICH is what we all should be happy about, instead od dwelling over the lesser ones.

the ratings seem to be high but the reviews seem to be kind of disappointed. That being said it seems that critics were looking for different than fans and mostly everyone else

It's very strange. Skyfall got very positive reviews but there were groups saying it was too serious and needed more fun. Well it seems Spectre has more fun and is getting positive reviews, and there are groups saying it needed to be more serious. You can't win. :-O
