I re-watched Skyfall recently - what a brilliant-looking film. Gorgeous photography and operatic action scenes; Craig is phenomenal. It reinforced my belief that Daniel Craig is the best James Bond the silver screen has seen thus-far.

Still, I can't put Skyfall over Craig's debut... Every aspect of Casino Royale seems to get better with each new viewing - what an amazing modern adaptation to Fleming's novel. It's my pick for the best individual film; though the 1960s are well represented in my top 10. The Spy Who Loved Me also seems to get better after each viewing - I think I've been enveloped in the fun action and humor of the film during the first few viewings, but further re-watches exposes the great cinematic style that the film has. Also, Roger Moore is at his most classic.

I guess some facts about me might help understand my ranking of the Bonds.
    Born 1974
First Bond ever was Octopussy at the movie theatre, I was way too young but it made a big impression on me and I fell in love for the first time. No, not with Rog...but Octopussy...lol
By 1987 I became a huge Bond fan because The Living Daylights was a life-changing experience.
By 1990 I had seen all Bond movies (anything older than Octopussy on VHS).
In 1995 I was 21 and the right age for those movies. Hence I became a Brosnan fan.

"The perfect Five" will not change ever unless a new perfect one comes along.
    1. GOLDENEYE
    2. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS
    3. ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE
    4. CASINO ROYALE
    5. OCTOPUSSY

The other unmissable ones that I can re-watch endlessly.
    6. FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE
    7. GOLDFINGER
    8. LICENCE TO KILL
    9. TOMORROW NEVER DIES
    10. DIE ANOTHER DAY
    11. MOONRAKER
    12. THE SPY WHO LOVED ME

The rest of the best, there is not such a thing as a bad Bond movie.
    13. SKYFALL
    14. DR. NO
    15. FOR YOUR EYES ONLY
    16. THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH
    17. THUNDERBALL
    18. YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE
    19. A VIEW TO A KILL
    20. QUANTUM OF SOLACE

The bottom 3 will probably never change.
    21. LIVE AND LET DIE
    22. THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN
    23. DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER

@w2bond, ...cool, and even the ranking order is very similar!

I never liked one actor much more than the others or disliked one actor. Of course I have a ranking of the actors, but that does not influence me on judging the movies.

If I have to give an order it's:
    Dalton
    Brosnan
    Moore
    Connery
    Craig
    Lazenby

    @Birdleson, @W2Bond

I decided to base my latest list on the films I enjoy rather than the ones I think are good--sometimes, these are not the same thing. So while DN and OHMSS are superior films to DAF and LTK, for instance. I sure enjoy watching DAF and LTK a lot more. Does that make sense?

Judging by the ratings and discussions all over the forum, I think the only "love it or hate it" Bond film is Thunderball

    Maybe QOS, as well.

more like "hate it" this one

It's not that strong of an entry to love it or hate it... I mean it's like the White Album by The Beatles. It has the vibe and potential to be adored or hated, if you know what I mean.

    I disagree.

There are certain parts in TB that some people really love and some others really hate. This doesn't happen in QOS. There aren't any parts to, especially, really love.

I did not like TB the first couple of times I saw it. It's a slow film by Bond standards, but that is what I have come to absolutely love about it. It's the long game. What TB has ...

    1. Great PTS
    2. Great title song and sequence
    3. Two terrific locales
    4. Great Barry score
    5. Some of the very best dialogue in the Bond series (the "No, I know a little about women" line may be the best ever)
    6. Scuba diving!
    7. An underrated Bond girl/villain in Fiona...who uses sex and then gets used by sex, and we can see her hidden pain and shame at Bond's line "My dear girl, don't flatter yourself. What I did this evening was for Queen and country. You don't think it gave me any pleasure, do you?" OH MAN is that a tight scene!!!!!
    8. A terrific flight sequence that is well-coordinated and photographed for the mid-60s.
    9. Domino!
    10. Sharks!

Yes, the plot is contrived and the final scene with the sped-up yacht is silly, but overall...this is the Bond film (at the moment) that I enjoy watching more than any other.

That's you. I and others love several scenes.
Yes, there are many scenes I LOVE in QOS... the one where Bond rifles through Mathis' wallet... not easy for you or I, but Bond has switched into survival mode and will do his grieving later. Dayum. It brings a tear to my eye. And there are lots more...

The opera sequence is one of the best in the entire franchise. So are the scene with Bond and Mathis on the plane, the PTS, the confrontation of Yusef.

That opera sequence is brilliant. And the lead-up, with Arnold's score (Night at the Opera), is terrific, too.

Maybe not a popular opinion, but I slightly prefer the Palio foot chase to the parkour chase in CR. But it's close.

The obvious CGI at key moments is what just about kills that (Palio) for me.
I disliked that too. I bought that junk better in the parachute scene. Still, only two bad CGI moments in an otherwise good movie.

Here to add another powerful QOS scene to all of the wonderful examples already mentioned: Bond preparing Camille mentally for pulling the trigger.

Bond spilled his guts about the internal processes that he goes through when doing his job. It's a side never before explored and it provides a really fine moment.

QOS is honestly one of the best acted Bonds I can recall. For all its deficiencies, it overachieves in other areas to make it a diamond in the rough in many categories.

Someone who thinks a little like me: putting Thunderball and Casino Royale my #1 and 2 favorite Bond films, respectively) at the toppermost, putting Moonraker and Die Another Day at the bottownmost (although I think DAD is worse than MR.) And I would also put OHMSS and DN higher on my list too. Top 10 for sure.
