Nothing I say equates to that. I'm not talking in absolutes. I'm theorising and discussing. I want SP to be as awesome as the next man. To use your odd phrase, 'un-nuanced', that's the opposite of my thought process. I think about these films and the production process in fine detail. I don't make bold statements without being able back up the logic behind them.
But, moving on, I understand exactly what people are saying about the DB5 and other iconic elements of the franchise but I think that the point is being missed. The Aston is as much Bond as the suits, the Martini and the Bond theme. It is what it is and Bond would not be the iconic figure he is without all the elements appearing to a lesser or greater extent in every film. It is a recipe that works well so why change it. It is what people want, and also what they expect. Bond is defined by a number of things and, like it or loathe it, the Aston is one of them.

Maybe that's true, but it doesn't stop me being taken out of the film when it get's to that point. The beauty of OHMSS is that it sells you on the romance early on, then you go on the adventure. Just sticking it on at the end with no other plot surrounding it feels forced to me, like they are trying to catch up with the events of the novel with not much time left. Also the whole sinking house is annoying because (well, it's unnecessary for one thing) it gives the impression that Vespers suicide was more a spur of the moment decision than it was in the book.

I think it would be cool if the next Bond gets a Lotus like this one as "his" car, sort of like Moore with the Lotus Espirit.
As for the "loosing their balls". Its untrue, as you can rewatch interviews from the early DC time and hear them saying, that it was ALWAYS the plan to bring back some of the old. Just in their time and speed.
