@mirandafrost - Interesting list. Always nice to see another Brosnan supporter. I'm not the era's biggest fan, but with all the hate he gets I'm one of the resident defenders it seems.
Well, I AM the era's biggest fan. I absolutely love the first three, & have great fun watching the fourth.
    @mirandafrost, I love your list!

I thought you said you were Dalton's biggest fan? And Moore's biggest fan... And Connery's biggest fan... Or maybe you are the biggest fan of everything? ;)

Try not to take this thread too far from it's original concept chaps. Difficult I know..;-)

(Getting back on topic AND responding to the question...)
Let's look at my top 5:
    #1.TLD/LTK
    2.TND
    3.DN
    4.FRWL
    5.GE

    1st & 2nd place never change.

Not a bit of it; he (she-?) has LTK & DN way too low for my tastes.
    ;)
We're not the same person. And btw I'm female ;)

@mirandafrost, congratulations on finishing your Bondathon
Thank you. Yes, tastes are different and that is good. Would be very boring if everyone liked or hated the same films right? :)

I'm going to do my next Bond-a-thon leading up to Spectre, I think. Pretty sure at least a couple spots will change (seems to always happen), and of course I'm very interested to see where Spectre will fall - not only on my ranking, but everyone else's, too.

    Indeed.

    My prediction:
SPECTRE will change EVERYONE'S lists. It will be in everyone's top five & QOS will miraculously rise while SF falls a bit.

That is bold. I'm happy to say I always liked QoS should the consensus on it continue to grow more positive. I predict that Spectre will be a very divisive one among this board when it comes out. As for SF I absolutely love it, so I doubt it will fall too far on my list.
  • @chrisisall I highly doubt it will be in everyone's top five. That's a bit too ridiculous of a prediction.

I have no idea where it will land on mine or anyone else's because I haven't seen the film or even a trailer (and I might be avoiding trailers, haven't decided yet).

My ranking hasn't changed since my Bonadthon last year...

    1. The Living Daylights
    2. Licence To Kill
    3. From Russia With Love
    4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    5. Tomorrow Never Dies
    6. For Your Eyes Only
    7. The Spy Who Loved Me
    8. The World Is Not Enough
    8. Octopussy
    10. GoldenEye
    11. Dr No
    12. Thunderball
    13. You Only Live Twice
    14. Live And Let Die
    15. Die Another Day
    16. The Man With The Golden Gun
    17. A View To A Kill
    18. Goldfinger
    19. Moonraker
    20. Diamonds Are Forever
    21. Skyfall
    22. Casino Royale
    23. Quantum Of Solace

I don't know if I will have another this year. I have not yet watched a single Bond film in 2015.

I'll be avoiding trailers. I'm reading the SPECTRE Empire issue, participating in this site (although avoiding Spoiler threads), and then when the trailer hits I may just cease to internet altogether until November.

EDIT: I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up in everyone's top or bottom five. People are inevitably going to have very strong opinions about the newest Bond film, I think.
  • Funny, my opinion on SKYFALL has (slightly) lowered over the past couple years. It used to be in my top 5. No longer.
  • Been a while since I last did this, but let's give it a shot:

    GREAT
    1. The Spy Who Loved Me
    2. Thunderball
    3. Goldeneye
    4. The Living Daylights
    5. Casino Royale
    6. Goldfinger
    7. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
    8. For your eyes only
    9. From Russia With Love
    GOOD
    10. Moonraker
    11. Skyfall
    12. Live And Let Die
    13. Octopussy
    14. Dr No
    15. Diamonds Are Forever
    16. The Man With The Golden Gun
    17. Licence To Kill
    18. Tomorrow Never Dies
    OKAY/AVERAGE
    19. You Only Live Twice
    20. The World Is Not Enough
    21. Quantum Of Solace
    BELOW AVERAGE
    22. A View To A Kill
    23. Die Another Day

I find it far too difficult to rank these movies because I genuinely enjoy each and every single one of them. I seem to have a real affinity for the sillier entries as well. Things that usually bother people (gondola, clown outfit, sheriff Pepper etc) just bring a smile to my face.

I find the diversity in tone and style to be a huge plus to the entire series and going from something as ridiculous as Moonraker to something like Casino Royale during the course of a bondathon is always a treat. I probably wouldn't love the series as much if all 23 movies were exactly like From Russia With Love, but then again I wouldn't like them all to be just like Diamonds Are Forever either. Each movie fits a certain mood I might be in and makes for a perfect companion on a rainy day. That's why I love the series so much.

That's because you can look back now and know that these elements did no lasting harm to the series. They simply give it variety.
  • Yeah I love the variety. Helps keep the films lively for me especially when doing a Bondathon.

Where will Spectre be? I suspect high! NSNA controvercially included. Anything more Fleming goings higher up the list. The 90's era was the worst!

Opps Goldfinger was supposed to be 5th above OHMSS.

The list changes all the time. So I'll go with graded categories:

    A
    Goldfinger
    Thunderball
    Casino Royale
    Skyfall

    B+
    You Only Live Twice
    Live and Let Die

    B
    Dr No
    From Russia With Love
    OHMSS
    The Spy Who Loved Me
    Quantum of Solace

    B- (the guilty pleasures)
    Diamonds Are Forever
The Man with the Golden Gun
    Licence to Kill

    C
    Octopussy
    A View to a Kill
    The Living Daylights
    Goldeneye

    D
    For Your Eyes Only
    Tomorrow Never Dies
    The World Is Not Enough
    Die Another Day

    F
    Moonraker

I just watched FYEO for the first time in a while. I keep wanting to give it a chance because so many Bond fans rate it favorably.

No...just can't do it...In fact, I'm closer to moving it in with MR as an F. FYEO is simply dreadful.

You can pull a very good hour and fifteen minute movie out of FYEO, which is more than one can say about several others.

I think that's why FYEO and MR irritate me so much. There are some great moments in both films, particularly early on. But both devolve into unnecessary corniness.

Not my list, it is the average of everyone s ranking. I personally think DN is way too low, and GE way too high on that list.

I am surprised, too. The second worst Bond film of all time? Hell no.

Objectively, DAF is horrible. But it's appeal is in its utter stupidity; it is over the top bad, to the point that it is the Cult Classic of Bond films.

DN is like a tune-up, a feeling out. Afterward, EON got a better sense of what to do with the character and franchise.
