    The Vesper character I found to be miles off. Book Vesper was beyond redemption. She was looking at life in prison minimum, for high treason. Smersh had been running her for a long time. She killed herself because she knew Bond would hate her, when she was eventually forced to reveal her duplicity. She was a tragic but romantic figure.
    I can't relate to the sassy, Haggis dialogue-driven, smart talking, rather crabby interpretation that Green brought. New and improved Vesper I guess. I kind of liked the original though. You couldn't have paid me to spend a weekend with the new one.
    Fleming's Vesper though - I would have been suckered and completely under her spell, worse than even Bond was.
    Movie Vesper, as M pointed out, was salvageable. She was a blackmail victim, not a longstanding traitor.
    In the book, the "bitch is dead" line rings true. In the movie it seems like too much. Even M thought so.
    Plus there was the whole Miami sideshow, the origins nonsense, and other assorted extraneous elements.
    There was real opportunity here to do a two hour treatment of the Fleming novel, reintroducing Bond as the seasoned agent that Fleming gave us.
    CR06 IMO was a wasted opportunity, and there's all the Haggfish dialogue...don't get me going there.....
    Anyway, the movie can be enjoyed for it's own merits, so for those who like it, go nuts, but I'll never be terribly enthralled with this film. When I first saw it, I walked out of the theatre shaking my head, muttering "what has happened to my Bond?! Help!"
    I almost booked an emergecy session on Dr. Sir James Moloney's couch.
    But Instead, I sucked it up, went back, took my medicine, and saw the film a few more times in theatre.
    As a Bond fan, I digest what is served up, even if some entres do not quite stimulate the palate, as much as I'd like. I also endured Deaver's book, Boyd's book too. So be it. We roll.Long live Bond. ~O)

    I must agree with you,@timmer, about using Montenegro as the location of Casino Royale. I always found it to incrogruent, and as you say, nonsensical.

    I have had love/hate feelings towards OHMSS over the years. It is currently ensconced in my top 5, so I am pleased to see it not going without a fight.

    Maybe it's just me but I felt Royale was EXTREMLY close to Fleming's novel.
