    1) Lee - It's unlikely that he will ever lose the top spot.
    2) Dench - A female M seemed like a gimmick at first and it could have been with a lesser actress. She masterfully made the character her own.
    3) Brown - Somewhat underrated by the members here. I've always enjoyed his take on the role.
    4) Fiennes -For now. With such a small sample size it's hard to rank him. I think that he has potential though.
    5) Fox - The less that's said about him, the better.
    6) Huston - I'll be honest. It's been so long since I've seen this film that I can barely remember him.

Inc. Fiennes. He looks like a good shout to take the #3 spot, but it's way too early to be making predictions about him.

Sir Miles Messervy. Now that is a name that conjures up imagery, no? The sterness and quite frankly the solitude of being M makes for interesting performances. Here it my rankings.

    5.Huston
    4. Dench
    3. Lee
    2. Fox (free radicals)
    1. Dench "Bond, Only Bond" -Goldeneye
  • I did put Lee at the top but I changed my mind, Dench just edges it. I complained a lot about how they overused her (the worst example of this is QOS, at least in TWINE and SF they had a good story reason), but she was brilliant in the part. The M scene in Goldeneye isn't just my favourite M scene but one of my favourite scenes in the series. She was funny, she had great chemistry with Brosnan and Craig, and even though leading up to the film I was complaining about her being used more again, Skyfall had what I thought was her best performance, and I was sad when she died.

    1) Dench
    2) Lee
    3) Brown
    4) Fox

I enjoyed Fiennes in SF and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him but I think it's a bit early to be including him. He's only had a few seconds screen time as M. I've never seen CR 67 all the way through and what I have seen I can barely remember, so I didn't include Huston.

Can't say about Fiennes yet. With his, what , minute in screentime as the new M.

    1. Sir Miles Messervy
    2. Barbara Mawdsley
    3. Olivia Mansfield
    4. Gareth Mallory (putting Ralph below Dench for now until I see more of his M, although I'm sure he will turn out just fienne)
    5. Admiral Hargreaves
    6. Edward Fox M
    7. John Huston M 'McTarry' (don't remember him, don't really care to)

Allow me to include only those which I consider M's from real Bond movies:
    1. Lee (Connery-Lazenby era)
    2. Dench (Brosnan era)
    3. Dench (Craig era)
    4. Brown (Moore-Dalton era)
    5. Fiennes
    6. Lee (Moore era)

    119: Barry's scores

11: The Man with the Golden Gun (did he not care when he did this one?)
    10: From Russia with Love
    9: Goldfinger
    8: You Only Live Twice
    7: Diamonds Are Forever
    6: Moonraker
    5: Octopussy
    4: A View to a Kill
    3: The Living Daylights
1: Thunderball = On Her Majesty's Secret Service (if forced I would give it to TB)

    121: M

7: Robert Brown (with Roger Moore)
6: Bernard Lee (with Roger Moore)
5: Robert Brown (with Timothy Dalton)
4: Judi Dench (with Pierce Brosnan)
3: Judi Dench (with Daniel Craig)
2: Bernard Lee (with Sean Connery)
1: Bernard Lee (with George Lazenby)

Too early to include Ralph Fiennes but he certainly shows great promise. All of the Ms have been brilliant so far. I've found all of them to be inspired casting. Very difficult to rank this one.

All very good ,and Ralph Fiennes is a class act so i have no doubt he will be right up there.
I dont want to comment on NSNA and DEFINATELY not on the other crapfest film.
  • 1. Dench
    2. Lee
    3. Brown
    4. Everyone Else (except Fiennes, far too early to comment on him, so I'm leaving him out. He should be good)

@StirredNotShaken and @barryt007, you are right about Fiennes. Now I think I shouldn't have ranked him.
