    2014 rankings – based on a few more recent viewings.
    This is an OBJECTIVE list – trying to at least separate nostalgia/personal enjoyment from genuine quality:

    1. From Russia With Love
    2. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
    3. Casino Royale
    4. Skyfall
    5. Goldfinger
    6. The Spy Who Loved Me
    7. Goldeneye
    8. Dr No
    9. Thunderball
    10. Octopussy
    11. For Your Eyes Only
    12. The Living Daylights
    13. You Only Live Twice
    14. Licence to Kill
    15. Live and Let Die
    16. Moonraker
    17. Tomorrow Never Dies
    18. The World is Not Enough
    19. Quantum of Solace
    20. A View to a Kill
    21. The Man with the Golden Gun
    22. Die Another Day
    23. Diamonds are Forever

    Sorry DAF fans but after watching some of it last night I've decided to put it right at the bottom. There are a few funny moments - especially early on - but overall it has to be one of the dullest, laziest films in the series IMO. The best character other than Bond is reduced to a joke (Tiffany Case), Connery is on pure autopilot (I'd rather watch Jill St. John walking round in a bikini) and the action is mundane.

    The whole list is not too far from the average, You have MR and OP higher than most, and TLD lower. I think you need to see DAD again, though. ;)

    I often note that many fans seem to place OP middle of the road. With 13 being an oft place position. Coincidence that it's the thirteenth entry in the series. Hmmmm.

    DAD is quite bad (some of it is atrocious), but I can at least get through it without almost falling asleep. Plus I think the swordfight is better than any of the action in DAF.

    Can't dispute the bottom five. Very similar in thinking to my own bottom five. I used to love DAF, and still do enjoy it whenever I watch it. But not as a Bond film. It's a sad swansong for Connery. The same man from DN, FRWL and TB. Hard to believe. Golden Gun has never won me over and the less said about DAD and QOS the better. Good list @BAIN123

    It is. DAF doesn't really feel much like a Bond flick - more like a parody a couple of steps above CR 1967. It's obviously going for a lighter, more laid back approach but as a result the plot/tension is lacking. I found myself not being particularly interested in what was going on. Jill St. John is great in a couple of scenes, she's set up as a stunning, efficient diamond smuggler and she clearly has a personally...but Jill's acting in the later part of the film is atrocious and her character is reduced to nothing.

    Also when she shoves the guard out of the way on the oil rig to get to Bond WHY DOES THE GUARD STILL STAND THERE?

    I realise that a lighter approach may have been seen as the way forward in the early 70s, but at least have a BIT of suspense in there somewhere.

    Maybe I am being a little hard on it - it's not without its good moments, but I do find it very dull. It's a film I frankly struggle to finish (I didn't last night).

    Haha, OK. DAF is clearly the worst Connery film, but for me it has some redeeming qualities. Wint and Kidd and the score for instance.

    The score is good. Wint and Kidd are ok but not among the best. Charles Grey gives a good performance but the way the character is portrayed is all wrong. That gentlemanly approach is better in YOLT.

    DAF is ranked at 20 on an average, I rank it a few spots higher. One of the most unpopular films in the franchise, that is for sure. It was definitely the worst film yet in 1971, no question about that.

    Maybe as I get older I'll appreciate it a bit more (I'm 28 now). For me its biggest sin is that its just very boring. It's never been one of my favourites - despite Jill St. John (if rumours are to be believed Laz was a lucky bastard).

    @Benny. Thanks btw. I think OP is a lot of fun. There are problems but it does at least have some good moments of suspense as well as some lighter scenes.

    Great; after rewatching both, now I'm torn between GF and OHMSS for my favorite classic Bond. Sigh. This can become difficult...

    Not just funny, it is cool. Moore is really cool in it. Definitely the hippest Bond film.

    I could say a lot about that film haha. Moore was at his best in his youngest days; for me, his first 3 features were his best. LALD is so unique and entertaining, and it's possibly Moore's best performance as Bond. Oh and the girls and villains are superb

    Wow that's crazy. I cannot believe I never noticed that; I've felt like re-watching it anyway though so I will probably tomorrow. Just watched OHMSS yesterday - that one is fantastic
