Casino Royale for me... you just can't beat a Fleming original story and title.

Casino Royale - for being a more visceral experience

Good to have you back @00Beast
  • Skyfall - For it's more traditional Bondian sense of humor without going over the top and while still maintaining the gritty style of the Craig films, for a better Bond villian in Javier Bardem's Silva than in Mads Mikkelsen's LeChiffre, and for a better pace. It's about the same legth as CR, but I didn't notice the length as much. Also,
for bringing back Q and Moneypenny!

Thank you to those who have welcomed me back, I appreciate it! Certainly glad to be running this great thread again! As for me, I choose SkyFall. I have only seen it once, so not enough times to list reasons on why it was better than Casino Royale, but I know that I thought it was!

Casino Royale - better Fleming's book climate

Excellent points. Did you feel that the depth of character Dan portrayed in CR was also prevalent in SF?

Absolutely. Dan carries a lot of the film just with his presence, as he does with Judi. Seeing their relationship come full circle is a beautiful thing, and when
Bond kisses M's forehead after she dies, tears running down his face, I am swelled with emotion, just like when M reads Tennyson as Bond runs to save her.
Skyfall has made me more emotional than any other Bond film, and that really is a point in its favor.

    Finally good match-up.
As a movie i say that CR was better than SF.

I love both and this is probably the hardest I've had to choose. I think I must go with Casino Royale with Skyfall being a close second! Both are in my top five favorite Bond films.

I was and still am a big advocate of CR although it's not the action sequences that are the highlight it's Craig's performance more than anything and he bests that in SF. Also I don't remember in the 3 times I've seen SF none of the ripe dialogue that's in Daniel's debut. I don't really like the Miami chase it's nowhere as good as the Madagasscar chase.

I just slightly prefer SF, the script and the villain are better and I also think the score is as well.

Really? I actually thought it was better, if anything for Craig's grin at the end.

  • Skyfall. By a mile. I actually prefer QOS to CR now too.

What place was CR in for you, because all I remember from you in the past were statements saying QoS was the absolute worst Bond film ever.
  • Rewatched QOS last night and really enjoyed it.

QOS is probably hovering just outside my top 10 and CR is around 15-20.

Last place to outside the top 10? Hell of a jump.

Well I'm typing better than I normally do when I'm drunk so I don't think so :)

I tried not to let the stuff I know I didn't like (Camille, Elvis, Greene and the editing) get in the way of me enjoying the film. And I thought about it and I decided that the good outwieghs the bad.

CR might technically be a better film but I thought this time around, QOS was much more enjoyable.

    Casino Royale: 20
    SkyFall: 17

If I counted correctly, then that should be accurate! As you can tell, a very close match-up indeed! Nevertheless, CR is our winner!

    Next match starts now!

    Thunderball vs. SkyFall

Get ready for a real rumble!
  • My pick is Skyfall.
    For sure... :)

Enjoyable. That's the word! It's better than SF too.

    Skyfall vs. Thunderball, eh?

My heart moves me towards Skyfall. TB is a great ride, but it can't compete with the sheer bloody emotion and Bond pride in Skyfall, the film that is the most moving of the whole series for me.

    Skyfall for me.
  • Skyfall easily, I love Connery and the girls in Thunderball, but outside of that I think Skyfall has it beat in virtually every way.

    Skyfall for me.
  • Has to be Thunderball for me. It has a better villain with a better scheme, a better more vicious fem fatal, and above all Sean is the better Bond. Easy choice really...

Skyfall by a landslide because it returned Bond to its roots and many familiar past Bond elements were brought back.
