How dare you tease us with your comment? Does that mean the music on the OST is not complete or out of order, @doubleoego?

The first few seconds will give you a little buzz.

From the moment Sam Mendes was announced the director I hoped that he would bring composer Thomas Newman along with him, as I am a big fan of his scores for American Beauty, Road to Perdition, Wall-E and others. So it delights me to say that I think he has overwhelmingly delivered with Skyfall. Having listened to the soundtrack in isolation there are some definite stand outs for me:

    1. Shanghai Drive
    2. Komodo Dragon
    3. The Moors
    4. Grand Bazaar, Istanbul
    5. Breadcrumbs
    6. Take the Bloody Shot
    7. Somebody Usually Dies

I can't wait to hear it within the movie when I see it tomorrow. It's a shame his score is likely to be a one off.

I'd be intigued to see what you think. I personally avoided listening to the soundtrack as I wanted it to sound fresh. As it happened, there were some great moments where I got a buzz but it didn't necessarily leave an impression (good or bad). I'm wondering if I'd had the tracks semi-ingrained in my brain, would it have had more of an impact for me? I'm seeing it a few times again tomorrow so there'll be more time for me to bask in it and I may come out with a different impression. One things for sure, it's great to hear the Bond theme back.

The score of skyfall is probably the only negative thing I can mention about the movie. Sounded more like a Harry Potter film at some points. And the special Bond moments were ruined by the missplaced theme. Just my opinion..
  • just to be different, I like it, quite alot
a fresh approach, with subtle Bond themes here and there
and as a strong supporter of David Arnold, that surprised me

I thought it was generally an awful score. Unmemorable in every way, yet still prsent enough to be awful imo
  • My copy arrived from Amazonian today. It's not sealed, which I have noticed has been a common occurence from them. Anyone know why that happens?

It's a weird score. I can here mixes of Arnold, Zimmer, Williams and Newman. Bring David Arnold back and if Mendes returns, he needs to let the partnership take a break. It's like Burton and Depp. Come on...

This score is more like HGW's score for Spy Game. Granted there are some beautiful licks but those who celebrated Arnolds departure surely cannot hold this aloft as an example of how it should be done. Shame. Nice but that is all, not special. :-(

Sadly it's an average score. I've always enjoyed Arnolds music. He brings the classic sound and updates it for modern times. Even John Barry approved of him. I don't know why people dislike him.

After repeated listening the score starts to grow on me. It is good, not a masterpiece, but very solid. Favourite tracks being Tennyson/Enquirs, Grand Bazaar/Istanbul, New Digs, Brave New World, Welcome to Scotland, and Komodo Dragon. Still have to hear it being used in the film. Most of it cpould have been done by David Arnold in similar quality, I think (like his scores for TND, CR and QOS), some nice interpolation of the james Bond theme (even it is not fully used, but as somebody here already pointed out, that the theme as such is not fully used in quite a number of Bond movies), the Sévßerine them also being nice. If Mendes does retrun for Bond 24, he will probbly pick Newman again. If another director gets the nod, maybe Arnold will return (Danny Boyle? Please not AR Rahman!!!), or we will get another composer (Giacchino? Newton Howard? Armstrong?), but we will have to wait and see...

I think it's a great soundtrack. New Digs, Shanghai Drive, Jellyfish, The Chimera and Tennyson are all utterly wonderful.

On top of other tracks people mentioned, 3:00 onwards on She's Mine is pure Bond adrenaline.

I didn't see Adele's song in the track list. Anybody know if it will be there?

No, it's not. The theme isn't on the soundtrack.

This score creates a great fear in me that Hans Zimmer will be the next Bond composer.

I love the whole soundtrack, but these tracks are really getting me the chills (positive):

    - The Bloody Shot
    - Voluntary Retirement (reminds me of a Moonraker melodie or Goldfinger)
    - New Digs
    - Day Wasted
    - Brave New World
    - Jellyfish
    - Komodo Dragon
    - Severine
    - The Chimera
    - Quartermaster
    - Tennyson (what a stunning piece of music!!!)
    - Enquiry (fantastic build up also!)
    - Breadcrumbs
    - Skyfall
    - She's Mine
    - The Moors
    - Mother

To my ears it sounds way way more original, thrilling, suspenseful and powerful than most of Arnold's Bondmusic (well, okay, Casino was refreshing for most parts, not during the actionpieces though).

Thumbs up for this soundtrack. I'm listening it every day since I saw Skyfall last Saturday!

Oh, and within the movies the soundtrack works perfectly...

I don't think Old Dog, New Tricks actually appeared in the film itself did it? Maybe somewhere in the end credits?

Yes, originally Old Dogs should've been there according to someone else.
