Jeff Sneider is saying Callum Turner is DV's favourite for it.

…but if Dua Lipa breaks up with him he doesn’t get the job.

Good. If there's any truth to that then they'll presumably get him into audition at some point and impress everyone else. I'd be happy if he got it. But like I said I think it's just a bunch of noise for now. In a month or two I'm sure there'll be another actor who makes headlines (round three of ATJ, anyone?)

If true, they could do worse; I'll just have to get past the beady eyes. I can't look at him without seeing something rat-like

I do struggle to see the world where Kraven gets the lead in a Denis Villeneuve film. Turner is still a bit of a punt I guess, but I can imagine that happening much easier.

One thing is that where Craig insisted on seeing a script, I reckon if an actor at the stage of his career that Turner is at gets offered the lead in the new Villeneuve blockbuster movie, you just take it no matter what the script is!

Villeneuve may be mistaking him for Josh O'Connor :D

I struggle to see ATJ convincingly leading a big franchise in general! I think he works better as a supporting actor (not that I've rated even those performances of his highly. He's a weirdly uninteresting, one dimensional actor). I think Turner has made much more of an impact in what I've seen of him.

I suppose it shows the place the Bond franchise is in now compared to the post DAD years. I'm guessing he's still going to have to go through some sort of audition process and convince producers/executives, and any actor anyway is going to have to ask themselves if it's worth them doing or what they can bring to the role.

Perhaps something encouraging to say/that creates a few parallels to previous Bonds is what Mark Jenkin (the director of Rose of Nevada which Turner is starring in) said recently during an interview. He'd seen Turner in the TV series Glue when looking at another actor's work, and was convinced Turner had become a big star in the years afterwards, saying how enigmatic he came across and that he was a 'movie star a tv series' (which yes, I can understand). Very much that idea of 'a movie star in a character actor's body' which was said about Craig by the producers. It also has those echoes of Brosnan and Moore.

Anyway, I think there's definitely something about him in that sense whether he's the next Bond or not. It's also not something I've heard said directly about any other potential (even Dickinson and Elordi, who seem to have been mostly in more 'prestigious' tv shows or films rather than an E4 drama. I'm certainly not seeing anyone raving about Leo Suter being a future movie star based on Lynley).

Never seen Turner in anything that I can remember. However, he does give off a Fleming vibe (description wise) based on his looks. If he can pull it off then its all good.

@007HallY I don't think EON ever took Brosnan's suggestions seriously. Brosnan suggested Monica Belluci for the part of Paris in TND, but no one listened to him. Brosnan also suggested John McTiernan as DAD's director, but was turned down again. Maybe some other Brosnan suggestions, I can't remember now.

There's that funny story of Brosnan meeting Tarantino where the two got drunk and Tarantino started banging the table. When Brosnan went back to EON and asked the producers if they'd consider him directing a Bond film they said no. Probably best to be completely honest!

Anyway, as it's the last month of the year, and potentially about one year or so away from getting a new James Bond, I'll do a little round up of potentials who I believe will be considered or asked to audition. Who knows, one of them might even get the role.

To be clear I understand some of these could be comedically wrong in hindsight, and I'm sure I'll miss many, perhaps even the actor who eventually gets the role! For the record, I don't necessarily like all of these actors or believe they'll get the role (although most of them I do rate highly, and a few of them I'd personally love to see play Bond). Some may only ever be names on a list rather than those brought in for whatever reason. But I can imagine all will have been discussed or will be approached.

My suspicion at the moment is that a lot of what we're hearing is second hand and made up of half truths - ie. all this stuff about Villeneuve wanting a complete unknown actor. I also don't believe it's some two horse race between Harris Dickinson and Jacob Elordi, but I do think both actors will have been discussed as options. I believe in practice they'll explore a range of options when they get to the process of casting/finalising the script. Anyway...

So yeah, hypothetically that's what a group of Bond contenders could look like.

I would go with Renaux and Flatters.

Till Jonah Hauer-King change this, Callum Turner was my first choose.

After that interview about I Know What You Did last summer, iam 100% for Jonah Hauer-King as new Bond. Whyle with Turner i always thinking there must be better choose somewhere, but accepted him. Like when liked to see Clive Owen follow up Brosnan. But with Jonah Hauer-King i think if Eon or Cubby was stil around that casting him.

For my taste both actors and also some other actors i see in this thread (include my own other suggestion) made to much behind paywall/streaming movies. But more present Jonah is seen more in cinema movies that also be released on Bluray/DVD in The Netherlands. On this moment it is 4-4 with possible 1 movie for Jonah it is just waiting on it will out. For him on this moment: I Know What You Did Last Summer, William Tell, The Little Mermaid and A Dog's Way Home. For Turner: The 2 Fantastic Beast movies, Emma and Assassin's Creed.

I've had Callum Turner on my list since watching The Capture. For me it's either him or Josh O'Connor whom I think is a better actor but less typically Bondian. Also, not just because he's starring alongside Craig in the new Blanc film but they do seem similar in that O'Connor does quite a few smaller budget indie films. As far as I'm aware the biggest thing he's done is The Crown and that's prestige TV drama so he might not even want to do Bond.

I've only seen Hauer-King in the most recent series of Doctor Who and I think he gave a good performance in spite of the material to put it politely. I think he's in World on Fire, a WW2 program that I've been meaning to watch for a while, that's probably better 'Bond audition' material.

I'm always weary when people say 'Cubby would have chosen x for Bond' for what it's worth ;) The man had some quite unusual choices for potential Bonds frankly! I've seen a bit of Hauer-King though. I'm not sure he jumps out to me as an actor, much less a potential James Bond, but I'm sure if Amazon were coming up with a list of names he'd be on it and may well audition.

I was really underwhelmed by him in that to be honest. He had a pretty effectively-written baddie role (not sure what was wrong with that ep?) which should have been really hissable considering what his character did, but I thought he made little impact. I also saw him in House of Dynamite as pictured there, and he's fine in it, the role doesn't really give him loads to do though. Funnily enough he's sharing that scene with Idris Elba as the President and he's playing a Marine; two English blokes making important decisions about the US!

  • I'm a bit surprised that Turner doesn't have more support within the fanbase. I'm not sure he'd have been my #1 choice, but he fits the Fleming description almost to a T, he's charming, can be physically imposing, and has a great voice. Him being directed by Denis Villeneuve would have me pretty optimistic.

    Remember the poster for TSWLM ? It's Bond, and b e y o n d...
So, let's go with a CGI of a DEAD actor for Bond, and then the poster can say:
    It's Bond. From b e y o n d

Do you mean not much enthusiasm? I kind of get that, but on the other hand he seems way less divisive than I would have imagined anyone else would have been: I don’t think I’ve seen anyone say they can’t bear the idea of him doing it.

I don't think we'd quite get a CraigNotBond situation if he were cast. But Turner would have his detractors or fans not quit sold on him when announced. That's not necessarily a bad thing as should be get a strong script and put in a solid performance it'll be more likely to impress certain folks rather than disappoint them after high expectations.

No actor will be accepted by everyone. I definitely know a dealbreaker when I see one ; while not my ideal, Turner would not be a dealbreaker…
