You should because you pick it up.
Here's another trailer with a few additional scenes:
He looks very well in the part.
I like to be a bit challenged; if you’re doing it exactly the same as it was then is there any point?
I see it differently…
Ok…
Yeah. He's fine. I don't know where I read it. But I read something about an insider at Amazon, saying Amazon have their eyes set on Elordi as James Bond. I don't know.
I understand, it may just boil down to personal preference; I don’t like him. I feel the same about Pattinson… I found his Batman soul sucking…
I saw Elordi's newest film. OK, but, that hair and scars and very pale skin...will present quite a challenge to the makeup folks.
Least his jawline’s passable 😉
Anyway, the way I see it is it’d be an anticlimactic surprise if Elordi got it, despite how much he’s been touted. I’ve also said in the past it’s a role that might not actually benefit him in the long run. I’m not entirely convinced he’s the best choice either.
I think in practice it’ll be an actor established but not at Elordi’s fame at the current time (which I think is in the realm of better known now). I don’t think they’ll be unknown in the strictest sense but not ‘Hollywood’ famous either. It may or may not be a surprise to us, but I think regular audiences will be surprised and hopefully intrigued. I think that’s what they’ll be going for. Elordi’s potentially a red herring when predicting the next Bond in that sense, a bit like rumours itd be High Jackman or Colin Farrell in 2005 (although I suspect they’ve considered him).
If Elordi is too famous, they'll hire Dickinson.
Dickinson is more likely, but I think in practice it’ll be neither. I could be wrong though. But I suspect neither are the best options, although I rate Dickinson highly as an actor and have no doubt he could be fine in the role.
I suppose the way to look at it is there’s a whole casting process ahead. They’ll potentially get a hundred or more audition tapes, and that’s not even including some more established actors they’ll consider and maybe even push to screentest. That’s a whole pool of candidates, many of whom we probably don’t even know about! I think there’s potential for a great pick to crop up, and I think they’ll want to catch an actor who can bring something unique to the role and will get everyone talking.
I think the rumours about them wanting an unknown are telling. Not saying it’s definitive, and ‘unknown’ in this context likely means ‘Hollywood unknown’ but as a strategy or goal it makes sense. Get an actor the wider public has little to no concept of. That way they have the opportunity for them and their Bond to be introduced to the public.
In big franchise terms, I think it’s more likely to be a David Corenswet than a Robert Pattinson. But obviously it’s a case of who.
Well, let's see as things go.
Sure, he was an established character actor with experience in film/tv whom producers had taken notice of. But he wasn’t a Harris Dickinson or Jacob Elordi. Apart from Pearl I had no idea who he was when he got cast as Superman (I’ve heard from here Superman fans may have known who he was, but that seems to be a relatively small circle. Again, it may or may not be someone on our radar here).
For all our talk about Amazon’s algorithms and going for obvious choices, the most obvious thing they can do is, ironically, cast a lesser known but established/early up and coming actor who the general public might not immediately know. Get a Tom Holland, Chris Hemsworth, David Corenswet, Chadwick Boseman etc. Make someone a household name rather than someone having anything preconceived. But again, it’s a case of who.
Amazon may not want to risk that kind of slow start with an unknown. I wouldn’t be surprised if they went for someone who already had a certain amount of fame. Not that I think that’s necessarily the way to go, but I could see Amazon going that way.
Really interesting thought, you might be right. Someone with an existing fanbase, like Elordi or Dickinson (and they do have a following and a kind of reputation for making quality films) would probably not be seen as a bad thing. Basically the same sort of place Chamalet was a couple of years ago, and he did Dune no problems.
I reckon they'll be looking at the success of Dune for obvious reasons.
I also think while MGW and BB may believe CR could have earned more, I think it was the best case scenario for where Bond was at post DAD. For all intents and purposes it was a hit and grossed more than its predecessor.
Yes, it's going to be John Lennon, but we'll probably know who the next Bond is before that movie even comes out.
Craig was making a film with Spielberg when he became Bond. It's not like he was starving.
Dickinson is on the upper edge of 'up and coming' I would say. Relatively famous actually, probably in a way Craig wasn't (although yes, he was a very established character actor and had one foot in the door with Hollywood). I agree we'll most likely get an actor who has been in at least one bigger film or series and has had some years experience. I'd be shocked if it were an actor who'd only done an advert or theatre, but I'd be equally shocked if it were someone like Henry Cavill.
It depends on who they want at the end of the day, that specific actor who shines through. Even the most business orientated of producers are going to have to account for how well the actor fits into the role. I like Dickinson and think he's actually an extraordinary actor who could be an interesting Bond, but from my perspective it's difficult to imagine he's the only one to beat here. Same for Elordi. But I'm happy to be wrong.
