    I suppose you could conceivably have a Bond film where there's no tuxedos, casinos, martinis, or cars, and it'd still work. LALD is an example. It'll have to bring out 'Bond' in other ways though.

    Yes, I think LALD is a good example of being different in a good way. Contrary to what Richard Maibaum said about the movie. Hopefully, the wrong characters won't comeback like a certain character from LALD....

    I suppose Blade Runner 2049 has moments and characters in there that could conceivably be in a Bond film, so perhaps that's not a bad reference for what this might look like (albeit in a very generalised way, and of course it's very much dependent on what they do).

    You mean like Hinx? And Paloma?

    Sure. ;) Different characters obviously, but you've got villains and hench-women in that film who wouldn't look entirely out of place in Bond (obviously with story adjustments). K is even a sort of blunt instrument who questions his job. Just write that with Bond's humour and love of adventure, and that's really not miles away from a Fleming-esque take on Bond that could be great.
    I agree with @007HallY Blade Runner 2049 is the one I look to, when trying to imagine what Villeneuve's Bond would look and feel like. Although, with more action and a much lesser dystopian look. Also, for a very serious director, I can imagine Villeneuve's James Bond with gadgets.

    That film's growing on me on rewatches for sure. There's something quite Bondian about a lot of it (I quite like the fact that K's doing investigations/detective work too in that Noir-ish way, similar to how Bond would in, say, the earliest movies and Fleming. I'd love if we got a bit more of that in Bond 26).

    Maybe a TSWLM/DAF novel mashup?

    It's Amazon's first Bond film...so no matter what they do, it being their first Bond film, we're going to see plenty of the familiar, because they want to win EON's Bond fans over.

    A Bond film set in Upstate NY - that’d be a dream.

    Dune is almost certainly moving it's release date, which might mean that Villeneuve could have all the publicity out of the way by next November, and be ready to commit himself to this project fully. On the other hand Heyman has stated that there's no timeframe for Bond 26, and it appears they could be stuck at the ideas stage limbo for some time.

    Heyman may not be being entirely truthful I guess, it’s possible they’re not ready to announce dates yet. And DV can do publicity for Dune while he’s working on another film: the more important bit is post production, and I guess he’ll be locked in a dark room with editors and effects folk for months to come.

    I finished the DAF novel about a month ago and I have to agree. Plus I have strictly selfish reasons seeing as how I live in Upstate NY not far from Saratoga and some of the other towns and roads Fleming wrote about in both DAF and TSWLM. I love living in an area that has at least some connection to Fleming’s Bond and I’m sure I’ll have more appreciation when I get around to actually reading TSWLM.

    A local author actually just published this book which details her experience recreating the journey that the female lead of TSWLM does on Route 9 - I haven’t bought it yet myself but I plan to make that same exact journey that she does in the novel - probably after I finish the novel for myself.

    Here is the link for the book;

    And another article about the authors trip;

    Yes @007ClassicBondFan I just came back from the Catskills where I'm originally from, and in a better season plan to return and follow Route 9 over in the Adirondacks.

    I've got the book written by Bond scholar and world's expert on Fleming's The Spy Who Loved Me, I can relate to 007 and the Upstate New York background shared.

    A future 007 In New York could use Saratoga of course, plus other features of the Adirondacks and maybe "reverse course" back over the border to Canada.

    Well, Knight is a busy man, he won't be able to hang around forever for Denis is finish walking the red carpet. I suppose that means they get another writer in at some point for another draft, such Phoebe whatsit.

    The red carpet promotion of the film will take a week or two, I don’t think it’s very significant.

    But like you said Villeneuve will be locked in room with his editor for many months. It's going to be fascinating to watch things play out, but since there's still no timeline for Bond 26 it's hard to see Knight sticking around. My best guess is he hands in his draft, and then when the team is ready to start hiring actors and crew there will be another writer that comes in and tweaks Knights version, maybe even Villeneuve himself will make changes.

    I need to read this book. I love Upstate NY. I'd love a future Bond film to use it and Canada as a setting.

    Yeah, I agree. There are plenty of duties the editing team does that won’t need Villeneuve overseeing everything day to day; they have to put the rough assembly together. Take director’s notes. Go back in into the suite and get it in working order. Villeneuve will be in and out of this process for the next year, but there will be gaps in his schedule and I’d wager he won’t be taking this time to go on beach vacations (he’ll be helping with script development with Knight, discussing casting etc)…

    He’s very aware what’s at stake and what his responsibilities are on Bond. The process has started and is only moving in one direction.
