Thanks guys. In the end, it was a bad fit. You may remember I had issues getting my equipment at first, they needed three deliveries. And my former employer is a transport company! Alarm bells started ringing, but I needed a job, income was decent, so I gritted my teeth.

Sorry to hear that, @Ludovico. Losing a job isn't easy but glad you are financially secure at least. I recall you having the issues with the computer etc. early on. That certainly didn't give a great impression. I hope something else comes along for you soon. :)

Yeah mate, losing a job is horrible (been there). But if it wasn't a great place to work anyway and you have some financial security there are worse positions to be in. All the best whatever way.

I want to purchase a 15 year old album on CD from Amazon, it states usually dispatched within 6 to 7 months which I find preposterous, if they have the CD why wait flaming 6 months to send it out. ~X(

You people are funny. It's been 86 or higher in NYC for at least a couple of months this summer.

It all depends on a lot of factors. Our two weeks in Malaysia were lovely, with temperatures between 30-35C. But yesterday temperatures here 'shot up' in The Netherlands from 15 to 25C, and the warmth (I wouldn't call it 'heat') was very uncomfortable. Still haven't figured out why it is so diferent, but it is.

My father-in-law is South African and he told me the difference is in the humidity. He finds 30 horrible in the UK, but always found much higher temperatures in his homeland fine. Because he grew up with dry heat. When it's not in the UK, it's wet. I follow soprano Jeanine de Bique on social media. She's from Trinidad. Last August she complained about temperatures being round 35 C in Belgium (I think it was Belgium). If it's too hot for a Trinidian, it's too hot for me too.

That is definately true, I prefer the dry heat as well, but in Malaysia, we were there during the rainy season. So very humid. Still it felt very, very different. Maybe it's also the air density or even our own psychological mindset.

    btw,
sorry to hear about your job loss. Allthough, as an entrepreneur, I'd see it more as a chance to get something way better/

Thank you all. Yes, I try to take it as a sort of holiday/staycation. Autumn is my favourite season,,October my favourite month with September, so it gives me plenty of time to read and write and get into a spooky mood between two job interviews. I'll also take some time to clean up and tidy the house and do some cooking.

Yesterday I saw part of a Bond ranking video on YT. They claim to be Bond fans. The lower ranked films, up to 21st place, were completely maligned. That just strikes me as odd. I can understand that there are aspects you can criticise and I can also understand you might not like a few entries. But these guys were just very loudly slagging off certain Bond films so much (i.e. about FYEO, "it's just boring"; about LALD, "it's the worst big budget movie I've ever seen"; about QOS, someone said you're basically an idiot if you like it), I genuinely wondered why they consider themselves Bond fans. They gave all of these films less than 5/10. If you only like only a couple of them, don't claim you are an enthusiast, or even worse, an authority on the series. The self-indulgence of some people is frankly just baffling.

Which brings me to a more general thought, do these self-proclaimed film critics just feel like they should demolish certain films with bold but unsubstantiated statements in the hope they are taken seriously? And why are they talking so loudly? Do they think they are funnier when they are louder? Do they think they are more right when they are louder?

That's why I really appreciate Calvin Dyson. I don't always agree with him, but he's an eloquent fellow who uses real arguments and who doesn't shout into the camera. He clearly adores the franchise (I believe he ranked TLD fairly low and said "I wish I liked it more", or something along those lines). He'd go for "this or that didn't really grab my interest all that much" instead of "this film is straight up boring". A breath of fresh air, that guy.

Sadly, @GoldenGun, I think you're right that some critics are prone to a certain kind of arrogant slamming. It seems to make people feel superior when they can tear down someone else’s work. I understand the temptation to indulge in hyperbole when one truly dislikes a film, but to bury a movie as if it were a decaying corpse often feels needlessly disrespectful. Most critics have never shot a single frame of film themselves; a little modesty would suit them well. And if you find yourself seething with caustic hatred toward an entire film series, perhaps it’s simply not for you, and maybe you should leave the reviews to those less eager to fire off torpedoes. This, incidentally, is why I’m not reviewing Hannah Montana: The Movie. ;-)

There are many other sensible Bond youtubers you can watch instead.

Check out David Zaritsky (A very prolific content creator) and Being James Bond's Joe Darlington (His in-depth reviews of all the Bond films are truly excellent)

Add to that the necessity to accumulate clicks, and the tendency of many of those videos to exaggerate everything to serve that purpose.

A twofer thse past few days. 1) Received yesterday a letter from my mutual fund telling me that as of january 2026, I would no longer be eligible for their garantee in case of death, unless I take a new garantee, which is sure to be more expansive. I must say that that piece of news came as a surprise. Until then, I thought that the garantee I had would last me at least until I retire (in two years), and not after I'm 65. Seems to me that a phone call to the Mutuelle will be necessary next monday. Well, after the other phone call I'll have to do early monday morning, because...

    2) Tpoday, I discovered that I can no longer use my debit card to buy goods (although I can still use it to take money out of an ATM). I tried three machines, both contactless and using the keyboard, and the card was rejected every time. Rather inconvenient, given that in a few days, I'll go on vacation, and I still need to rent a car. Let's hope my card will work then, but I'll have to call my bank to see what's going on. It never rains, but it pours, right ? Still, fingers crossed, and hope the situation can be resolved quickly.

Random, small-scale rant, but I hate whenever the comparison “girls are like cats, guys are like dogs” gets used. For one thing, it sounds dehumanizing to people and reduces their complexity, but also, it’s stereotypical and is another way to say “all guys / girls are the same, basically.” Also, last I checked, there are plenty of male cats and female dogs.
