So for now it’s just sitting there, taunting me.
It's in the additional music section of disc 2, because they couldn't find it in the same place as most of the other music from the score, so they had to extract it from the music/effects/dialog track and it was then converted from mono to stereo. They placed it outside the "score presentation" because of the difference in audio quality.
I see. Thank you. I'm saddened it couldn't be tracked down in the proper quality. That track is one of my favorites.
My note on page 12 of the booklet addresses this.
Neil
Yes, thank you. I haven't found the time yet, but I shall. The music is bloody awesome, though. You guys are filling this Bond (music) fan's heart with joy.
In this case, the music is mono, edited, potted (volume going up and down to account for dialogue and effects) and generations away from the original recording. It's an excellent guide, but not ideal for a soundtrack release and I use it only as a last resort.
I discuss it quite a bit in the latest 007 Files podcast.
Neil
The music stem being 'potted' is very interesting too. The two stem tracks on the release sound great but, yeah, clearly not quite at the top notch quality of the rest of it.
Yes, Double Derval might be my favourite track on it.
Which is why I kept them separate on this and OHMSS.
Neil
And as an example, the ending of "Double Derval" is not on the music stem as this music is not used in the movie. It debuts on this release.
Neil
Is there a guide to which tracks have previously unreleased material? I think the listing on the LLL often has asterisks for that sort of thing, and TB isn't a score I've listened to as much as some of the rest.
I thought the info about Bond Meets Domino on the podcast was quite fun: the version in the additional music section was in the film -but only for a short period recently and shouldn't have been- and has since been removed! :D
I miss the extended lounge version of Thunderball, which is used on OHMSS in the mix with Dr. No and From Russia With Love. The version on this CD has a fade-out.
Does the version used on OHMSS still exist?
What's used in OHMSS is the album master for the track "Thunderball" (disc 2, track 19 on the new release, track 7 on the original "Thunderball" album) around 3:37 to 3:52. The fade out is present in the film, too.
Neil
I identified the previously unreleased material just by comparative listening. For this I used my copies of the soundtracks, including a home-made film-sequenced soundtrack I created from the 2003 CD. (I followed some excellently detailed track cutting and sequencing instructions that I found online at the time, provided by a certain Neil S Bulk!)
I think the following tracks are previously unreleased:
Disc 1
06 Double Derval
11 Code Name Thunderball
13 Casino
14 Cafe Martinique (Film Version)
17 Spectre Ring
20 Bathing Beauty
26 Got The Point
28 The Bombs Revealed
29 Bond Is Discovered
30 Caught
Disc 2
07 Bond Meets Domino (Take 1)
08 Street Chase (Early Version)
09 Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Alternate Instrumental) - first time in stereo
10 Do You Fly Here Often (Mono Stem)
11 The One That Got Away (Mono Stem)
I think the following tracks contain previously unreleased material where indicated:
Disc 1
02 Chateau Flight (Film Version) - Approx. 02:12 to end of track is new
05 The Rack and Sweat Box - 00:38 to 01:36 is new
09 The Bomb (Film Version) - Final 13 seconds is new
12 Bond Meets Domino - Final 10 seconds is new
15 Shark Tank - 00:35 to 02:00, and 02:25 to end of track is new
19 Lights Out For Paula - Start to 00:54 is new
24 The Golden Grotto - 00:50 to end of track is new
Disc 2
02 The Underwater Battle Begins - Start to 01:36 is new
03 Underwater Mayhem - Start to 00:50 is new
I believe Disc 1 Track 16 "Bond Below Disco Volante (Extended Version)" was previously released on the 2003 CD - Lukas added the missing end piece, I presume.
Any corrections welcome. I haven't compared all the "original soundtrack album" tracks on Disc 2, but I am guessing none of them falls into either of the above categories - please correct me if you know otherwise. Many thanks in advance!
