Unless he's already got the role, of course. ;)
Yes, joking about Bond doesn't seem like the best idea, which makes the whole thing even more suspicious.
:-?
I never understood why James Norton could even be hypothetically considered. He's so bland.
I agree 100%
I only saw him in McMafia (unless I forgot him in other roles) and boy he was like Michael Corleone on valium!
You're dead right 100%.
What's weird though is when you look back to interviews from 2004-05 with Daniel, he was openly talking about Bond and not shying away from it, way before he was cast.
He’s pretty good in Happy Valley. Again, not quite right for Bond, but I’d say the same about many other good actors.
Pretty sure there’s an interview for Layer Cake before he was cast where he talks about it too (maybe not openly to the point he says ‘yeah, I’m auditioning’ but it’s obvious he’s considering it). He was pretty open about what direction they were thinking of going in for CR too.
I don’t think any of them can give specific details about auditions/meetings (leading to some strange phrasing or joking around), but I don’t think every actor will completely shut down in that position. Theo James and Aidan Turner have openly said it might not be for them. ATJ said he was only concentrating on what films he had lined up next and not on Bond (basically confirming he hadn’t been cast and that there was no casting at that time).
If anything I get the sense it’s us who often try to read too much into what certain actors say! Often wrongly. I can imagine if it were 2005/we read those interviews from Craig a portion of us would be convinced he was not going to play Bond and that Clive Owen would be announced soon.

This rules out nearly everyone, ha.
David Corenswet is a perfect example; he wasn't very well known to the general public but was a working actor. To many, including me, he is Superman; I had never heard of him prior to his being cast. I think they will shoot for the same thing with Bond.
Yes. Unknown in this case is an undefined and potentially big category.
Not really unknown, but not an A-Lister either. He'd done theatre mainly, but moved over into film/tv a bit more by 1978.
Is Bond 7 on the same mould?
Who knows? I think it's difficult in practice getting a complete unknown. I can imagine if they go for someone lesser established they'll still be a character actor and have starred in some notable movies/tv shows (so not far off of the Corenswet comparison).
It’s a good question. I was a teenager when he took on the role, and I’d never heard of him… but I had seen him, I just didn’t realise he was Prince Barin in Flash Gordon. We didn’t have the internet obviously, no IMDb, so we were kind of information-poor. We also didn’t have all these channels with all this content. Today it’s a very different world, and it means that there are very few ‘unknowns’ for those of us who watch a lot of tv. I think the new Bond actor will have a similar level of fame to Craig pre-Bond, not a big name, but probably someone who has been in some well-received dramas, maybe leading some of the smaller films or tv shows, being a supporting member of the cast in larger projects.
I'd say relatively unknown, especially in comparison with his predecessor Roger Moore or the heir apparent Pierce Brosnan.
I think it's an important distinction to make: We had far less source of information then, compared to now, so many actors were virtual unknown by the general public, even if they were veteran actors who had been in important projects. That said, there's an aspect of time we haven't taken into consideration here: with the dramatic increase of channels and explosion of streaming content, I'm wondering if the next Bond actor might not actually be far less famous when cast than Brosnan, Craig, Dalton, etc.
Random, other lesser known actor names - I dunno, Jake Dunn, Ben Radcliffe, and Archie Renaux. Not advocating for any of them but not dismissing them either.
Definitely. Sadly the one that got away *cries hysterically*
I googled them and i would say its a promising list. Pool of candidates they should looking at. They all are pretty similiar age as me born in 1994.
I strongly disagree with the whole 'David Corenswet was an unknown' argument. Principally as he was one of the most fancast people for the Superman gig. I heard his name continuously with the role, even before James Gunn was appointed to direct the reboot.
I doubt this new report is true, sounds more like Baz scrapping together some morsels of gossip and putting it in a Deadline article which gives it more potency than his Daily Mail days. Also, it contradicts Tatianna Siegel from Variety who named three of the biggest young actors as being in Amazon's crosshairs. So, the reports directly contradict one another. It'll be curious how the casting progresses. Though, an 'unknown' is a bit discouraging for me.
If I could pitch two possible unknowns, how about Jamie Flatters (One of the CGI thingys from Avatar) or Buck Braithwaite (Netflix's Alexander: The Making of a God)?
Both are "unknown" and both has the look and actor doesnt have to be "oscar" level to play the part.
