Thank you 👍 let's steer away @DarthDimi let's speculate about what the villain of the game is about instead.
Agreed, my thoughts are simple. That Iconic British characters should be played by ethnic, indigenous Brits, more often than not. I think changing the race of a character changes who they are fundamentally.
Again, I like Naomie Harris as Moneypenny and Ben Whishaw as Q, but they were cast in a different time, when this sort of racial stunt casting wasn't as plentiful. Now, I'm just tired of it.
I don't think that is controversial. But I digress.
Didn’t notice that either! Pretty cool.
Watch the 30 minute playthrough with the car chase, maybe? It's very classic Bond driving imo, where you basically just pin the throttle at max, the villain is just one step ahead, but you're given "route options" like maybe, a construction site you can cut through as a shortcut, or a ramp to go over an obstacle (as was demonstrated).
It is not a Grand Theft Auto Bond game.
But as I say, it’s been nearly thirty years since it was established, and very much welcomed, that M’s superficial description can move beyond that of Fleming’s.
Q isn’t described in the novels at all, why aren’t we more upset at his depiction? It’s just about race and silly culture wars really.
I missed those, where did they appear?
Perfectly put 👍
This is incorrect. The character of Miles Messervy has only ever been played by one actor so far*, which is Bernard Lee. Every M that we’ve seen afterwards have been completely original characters with their own unique backgrounds. Even the M featured in NSNA is acknowledged to be a completely new M from who Bond worked for.
*=obviously debatable about whether Robert Brown’s character is either Messervy or Hargreaves. The films neither confirm or deny, so take it how you like it.
Oh cool thanks, I managed to miss that!
I quite like that Ronson has been established as one of Bond’s more memorable colleagues: maybe it’s because of Bond’s rare display of sympathy for him, or maybe it’s just because he’s got a cool name :D
Here’s the Q bio:
I prefer ‘Q Branch’ to ‘Q Labs’, but it doesn’t really matter.
Early 50s?! Working at Q Lab must be stressful. The guy's hair's completely white.
Hey now, some people gray very early (I said for no particular reason)
Same - even though a lab can deal with more than chemistry, it doesn't sound as good, does it? 'Q-LAB' is also written inside the wristwatch HUD on screen but it helps that there's a beaker icon below it!
Was hoping for a bike level with the Triumph, but not sure now. I thought you might use the wristwatch with the bike, but since this 'hack watch' is able to tap into certain objects to distract enemies, it's looking more like the flamethrower exhaust was just a demonstration of the watch's abilities.
Yeah I think it probably is, or rather maybe they used it because it just sounds like a sort of classy word in the Bond world because of that, if you know what I mean. I kind of wouldn’t mind a spinoff with Ronson and Captain Nash just because they sound cool! :D
It's unfortunate to see the Go Woke Go Broke crowd tearing the game down. We need more of these type of games on the modern systems. Hopefully this game can create a resurgence of the spy action genre in gaming that is sorely missing.
I think we’ll never get a true open-world Bond game. Most open world games are actually set in a relatively small area (big for a game, but small for a whole world) and involve lots of smaller side-quests that you do at your own discretion to build up XP; I don’t see how to make that work for Bond. I guess you could have a mission board at MI:6 HQ where you could pick small random missions to build XP, but they would still have to be set either in one large city, or a few smaller ones. I’m guessing this will be much more in the vein of Uncharted, or Jedi: Fallen Order.
They're an extreme minority, I wouldn't pay them any attention. The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, and i'm confident that First Light will score highly in reviews.
I've seen people on YouTube act like they are fans, but flipping out that M is not white, and Bond looking so young, and yet make no mention of the scar. Ignore them.
Don’t confuse “loud” people with “many” people. No matter what you do, attacks will come from both sides. On one side are those convinced that every film is part of a global conspiracy against white, heterosexual males. They glance at a poster and scream “woke!” without understanding the word. On the other side are those who think every film is stalling emancipation. They glance at a poster and shout “racist!” or “sexist!” without knowing how to use those words properly.
And then there’s everybody else, the vast majority who simply enjoy films, comics, and games without dragging politics into the mix like manure in a stew. Leave the extremes to their masturbatory loyalty games at the far left and far right; they don’t matter. Ignore them. People will always tear good things down; it's what they do. Some folks even destroy a film they haven't seen, as exemplified by some portions of our NTTD discussions...
I am wondering how much this overlaps with Michael Wilson and Maibaum’s early Bond 15 treatment, with a young Bond coming out of the Navy and given a mentor in the shape of Lennie James’ character. I think something said he’s an ex-00 as well, so I guess he’ll have been the previous 007; perhaps he’ll die and Bond will take on his number in tribute, as also featured in the 1986 film synopsis.
Or he’ll turn out to be the villain maybe. I think he’s a key character anyway.
