He might drop out for some reason or another, it’s not unknown in the movies and has happened to Bond a few times even. It’s early days: I really hope he does make the film and I think he probably will, but there’s always a chance of situations changing.

If the new Bond film is anything like the new gameplay from First Light then.............no thanks.

I know what you mean. But First Light is a video game. Dennis Villeneuve won't make a video game-like James Bond film, rest assured. Nor will Knight write one. To ease your concerns, I advise you to watch the making off video for Blade Runner 2049. I get really excited each time I revisit it. Top notch artists, those were. And now, with a proper writer, we'll get something special. Patrick Gibson would also never be Bond in a film made by these fellas, IMO. It'll all be special, in that I truly believe. If...no one drops out in the meantime ;)

I'd say the odds of that are about 50/50.

We're on a James Bond fan site, and even we have only from one page worth of things to talk about regarding Bond 26 in the past 2 weeks! Development is moving at a snails pace, I would not be surprised if Villeneuve decides he can't wait on making his other projects and leaves the production. Simply put, there's no way they are going to make the film on the schedule they originally planned for.

No way will Villeneuve drop out, it's a dream project for him, plus he has a great writer in Steven Knight and top producers. And I don't think development is moving at a snails pace, not with those producers driving things, I suspect it's advancing very well now.

Very reassuring to hear from you, dear @ColonelSun. I agree, there's a ton of things moving along very fast and very far away from our collective eyes and ears. I, for one, can't wait to hear about the cinematographer and production designer. These two always seem to be of great importance for Villeneuve. When do you think we'll know some more, about the crew, I mean? Even if the script is being written as we speak, I believe Villeneuve's crew is independent from that particular development, right?

“Where Hollywood’s Biggest Film Franchises Stand: Marvel’s Diminished, DC’s Rising, and Everyone Is Excited About James Bond”

I love this headline, and the tailwind.

That's good to read, thanks for that. It's true that it's all going the right way so far, they've just got to try not to mess it up! I think they're right that casting 007 is key: I think you need that someone who'll catch the imagination of the young crowd, the next hottest young thing.

The scores on Mission Impossible are interesting: unlike the other films there it seems to have performed on a par with all the previous films, they just spent way too much on it.
Sad to see where Star Trek is too- just feels like no one knows what to do with it.

Elordi or possibly Dickinson. Depends on how their films do in the next year.

If it's Elordi I will riot. That's really the one I just can't see working for me in any way. I've heard he's good in Frankenstein, but I hope it's not because he made the monster literally attractive for folks.

What are the thoughts of James Bond Day (October 5th) being celebrated this year by Amazon? I doubt they would do a production update but it would be one way to keep Bond in the news

My instinct tells me the fact that Elordi and Dickinson got mentioned so early is a sign they’re not likely to get it. My little conspiracy theory is both turned it down (same for Holland, who seemingly said publicly he was taking an acting break after Spiderman). That’s why their names got mentioned. Drums up interest but leaves room for speculation.

I’m sure they’ll get an actor who’s great in the role, and likeable/interesting to the public (ie. They come off well during interviews or whatever). That’ll be important in drumming up interest. But ultimately there’s no magical candidate. It’s about who they can get, but honestly I think there’s are plenty of actors they can pick and make it work, even in different ways.

I don't think Elordi or Dickinson have the presence or charisma to pull it off. Both of them are very "quiet" dramatic sort of actors. Somebody like Timothy Dalton wasn't super charismatic, but he has gravitas. Something they don't have.

I think there’s something there with both of them. They’re interesting as actors. The best potentials for Bond or the ones who’ll get it? Not necessarily. But it’s tricky to tell from our point of view.

Will the "Bond, James Bond" be the moment the new guy sells it? The moment needs to be 100% authentic. The phrase acting is believing applies to actor and audience. I've often said RM never convinced me he was Bond. Neither did PB. Though thoroughly unimpressed by GL when I first saw him play Bond, over the years he changed my opinion, something neither RM and PB ever managed. I don't think DC was the best Bond, but a very good one. I realize we are going to get someone quite different from Craig, I just hope he storms on screen owning the role.

I expect and hope straight off it's a grand combination of sound and vision to introduce the next actor as Bond. The Bond, James Bond line, wherever they place it, will be important but also one of many elements in play.

There are expectations and first experiences and then familiarity across the years. I admit I take the long view here and on most things.

    Hmmm:

"Writing a new 007 is, he says, “exciting and thrilling”. He isn’t allowed to reveal much more but Knight will set about this task with what seems a fantastically relaxed approach. He gets up before six — “that’s the best time because you’re still half dreaming” — sits down and just starts writing, confident the magic will come.

“I have no plan of how I’m going to get there,” he says of this technique. “Though I do know this character’s going to do this, this, and then they’re going to die, or they’re going to become king. So that’s the plan.”

And is there no fear associated with that? Villeneuve is waiting in Los Angeles for the first draft of the James Bond film … What if Knight climbs out of bed at the farm tomorrow morning, makes a pot of tea, sits down at his desk and nothing happens?"

Does this suggest they're doing a British coronation plot line?
