I agree. I think this unknown guy should be given serious consideration....
I find it humorous that many call for an “ unknown “ but when actors who fit that description are suggested, it’s often followed by ‘ well, he really hasn’t done anything’. or ‘ he hasn’t proven that he can carry a film.
That's just logic really, I don't see them giving a role this big to someone who has never starred in a film or large screen production before. They did it once with Bond and it ended badly, and it matters even more now. You just have to listen to Craig talk about the experience of shooting one of these.
I think some folks hope for an unknown because they want to believe there's a guy out there who looks just like Tim Dalton and has the experience of/acts like Craig or Connery who we've all somehow never seen before, but it's going to be a compromise.
He was in a film called Those Who Wish Me Dead with Angelina Jolie, he played a menacing assassin and he just wasn't convincing at all
It would depend on the unknown. I think it's very unlikely we're going to get such an actor who has all those qualities though - not just the looks but charisma, talent, screen presence. Generally to be a very good actor (or even just to hone that charisma/screen presence) you need a level of experience, and I think it's fair to say more established actors have a leg up here.
I think, for example, we're just not likely to get a good Bond from a 30 year old, little known model who looks like the incarnation of a young Gregory Peck, but hasn't been in anything. Unfortunately, much like poor George Lazenby I think they'd struggle with the performance. As good as the film might be, a lacklustre Bond will be front and centre for the audience. I just don't think they can get away with a bad lead (and incidentally, I don't think we'd get a bad Bond from Turner, ATJ, Suter, or even James or Hould. Some might be stronger picks than others, but I think all would put in competent performances).
I know a guy that was dead set on Rich Little taking over from Roger Moore. Today a suggestion like that would be embraced with open arms. :D
Yes, although to be fair I'm pretty sure Pattinson was the main choice anyway. In fact Hoult's even spoken about listening to the radio in his car and hearing about how Pattinson had definitely been cast as Batman a week before he was meant to audition. Not the best sign! It doesn't say anything about Hoult's talents as an actor though (he's a very good one). When it comes to Bond it's probably the same situation with Superman and Batman though - he's just probably not quite the right fit for that role. I'd be very surprised if it's him. The guy's clearly got some great roles ahead of him though, and I think he's more interesting when he's playing supporting parts or villain roles.
The overwhelming majority of the prospects we mention here are relatively unknown. The majority of the movie going audience are not locked in and paying attention to casting rumors and things like that they way we as bond fanatics do.
It's like a week after Shrek 5 and animated Spiderman sequel... it should move. Disney releases a mystery something two weeks later.
Why am I talking about this?
Because she was one of the candidates...almost a year ago.

I wouldn't expect any surprises regarding Bond.
Recent major examples are I guess Robert Pattinson getting cast as Batman (I remember his name being linked to the film a while before he was announced as one of those ‘that’d be cool’ choices, even if many general audiences were a bit skeptical. Variety even wrote about it a few weeks before he was finalised/announced - https://variety.com/2019/film/news/robert-pattinson-batman-matt-reeves-bruce-wayne-dc-comics-1203125473/). I’m sure it’s the same with Corenswet as Superman, and as said he was seemingly a fan favourite.
We’re unlikely to get some unknown actor who’ll swoop in, become Bond, and save some of us from the possibility of a candidate we don’t like getting the role by being perfect. On the flip side I think it’s unlikely we’re going to get any candidate who’s either said they’re not overly interested, or have seemingly been aged out (ie. We’re probably not going to get Theo or Aidan Turner). This thread goes back over a thousand pages, most of which is relatively recent. Most likely it’ll be someone who’s been mentioned, probably one of the more notable ones, and we’ll likely know who it is before an official confirmation.
Yeah I think it's a bit of a dream to imagine there's some guy out there who magically personifies all of the ideal Bond traits for everyone but we've somehow never heard of him.
Good to hear Tomb Raider is still happening, I hope it's fun. I didn't really like the last film.
And even if they found that unknown who looks great, it probably wouldn’t work out anyway. There’s that old story of Broccoli and Saltzman holding a competition to find the first Bond amongst models/unknowns, and when they eventually found a 28 year old model who looked like Gregory Peck they realised he simply couldn’t act and had no natural charisma. Unfortunately 9/10 times that’s the situation!
Whoever gets the role will get it for a reason. Any reservations I or anyone else has about any actor will have to be put aside if they’re picked at the end of the day.
Anyway, on a different note, that Lynley thing with Leo Suter comes out in Canada/the US today, doesn’t it? Out later in the UK for some reason. Just occurred to me if it’s any good and gets a second series it’s less likely Suter will be available, although maybe Lynley isn’t quite a Remington Steele thing (it’d be very strange though if the next Bond was doing a BritBox show at the same time… it’d be a bit like if Daniel Craig had played a major recurring character on Silent Witness or something at the same time of his first few Bond films… in fact it’d be weirder considering how supposedly Bond-like Suter’s character is meant to be).
As Roger Moore once said (or quoted, no idea): an overnight success is one that’s come from many years in the making.
Suter absolutely deserves a look and a screentest.
