Well maybe an unknown is what’s needed for Bond 26
    Not a bad idea.

I agree. I think this unknown guy should be given serious consideration....

I finally watched Superman last night, thought Hoult was really good in it. I’m still thinking he’s in with a good chance, if being contracted to Lex doesn’t put him out of the running.

Ah, the elusive “ white whale “‘, the unknown actor. The actor eventually cast will have a certain body of work; they aren’t going to cast someone who comes from a dinner theater background. The upper level of public recognition would be someone like Theo James or Nicholas Hoult , with the lower end a Leo Suter or Callum Turner.

I find it humorous that many call for an “ unknown “ but when actors who fit that description are suggested, it’s often followed by ‘ well, he really hasn’t done anything’. or ‘ he hasn’t proven that he can carry a film.

I mean you've just said exactly that so I guess you've amused yourself! :D
That's just logic really, I don't see them giving a role this big to someone who has never starred in a film or large screen production before. They did it once with Bond and it ended badly, and it matters even more now. You just have to listen to Craig talk about the experience of shooting one of these.

I think some folks hope for an unknown because they want to believe there's a guy out there who looks just like Tim Dalton and has the experience of/acts like Craig or Connery who we've all somehow never seen before, but it's going to be a compromise.

While it’s incredibly important that an actor who can handle the role, and all that goes with it is important , all of the other elements, script, director, production design, score, supporting cast, etc, are equally important, if not more important. If an actor is cast who is a relative unknown but possesses all of the qualities needed, he will immediately be known as James Bond; almost overnight he will be a star.

I've never been convinced by Hoult for Bond.

He was in a film called Those Who Wish Me Dead with Angelina Jolie, he played a menacing assassin and he just wasn't convincing at all
