Finally watched Romulus and wasn't very impressed. Shame, as i think there's a good film in there somewhere. Unfortunately it's buried under too much 'fan service' which i just found eyerollingly cringe. The script isn't completely terrible in it's own right, so why force in dialogue and tropes verbatim from superior films? I also had issues with the pacing. Very stop/start IMO.

I liked the stuff with the re-programmed android and the zero gravity acid blood was cool. Some excellent special effects and a score i will listen to properly without the film, because it sounded pretty great.

One other thing. Are we the audience supposed to believe that the creature Ripley blasted into the vastness of Space at the end of Alien was somehow recovered..? A needle in a Haystack is one thing, but that's hard to swallow!!! All very meh...

I remember going on this back in the early nineties in London. Really great fun!

I actually met the two guys who created Alien War, ironically at a 007 Magazine event at Pinewood Studios.

Really don't like A:E so far. Just some really dumb ideas in that show imo.

I am having issues with the Disney plus app in the UK it won't let me login its an issue others are having. I have listened to a few reviews of Alien Earth and it sounds horrible, I may just not bother.

I’ve dug this so far, it’s nice to have new creatures added to mix!

Just watched the first two episodes. For the most part, it feels like a laudable continuation of the franchise—though a little messy in how it introduces new ideas and otherworldly creatures. Then again, why wouldn’t there be more life forms out in space? Still, this shift does take some focus away from the Alien, which this time seems less concerned with stalking and reproducing through human hosts, and more hellbent on swift, Jack the Ripper–style kills. That said, it’s still a step up from the disappointing Romulus.

Good grief, you're not wrong. Absolutely atrocious so far.

The plot seems like it was put together by a Disney boardroom from hell...

I watched episode 1 of Alien Earth, I liked the production design, they have clearly spent some money. They are leaning very heavily into Peter Pan, the show with its tech feels more suited to be set after Alien Resurrection, there are a lot of head scratching moments and some of the dialogue wt...

I've only watched the first ep but I thought it was quite decent, I'm not really seeing the problems. I wasn't gripped by it, but I'll keep going.

I like how we’re delving into the premise of artificial beings, as being a tv show allows more time for that kind of exploration. Even if you could upload the consciousness of a child into an android body, how much of them will be left? Is Wendy still Marcy deep down, or is this just an android with the memories of a dead girl and thinks she’s the little girl?

Highly recommend the show then. That’s where Noah Hawley really shined. I never saw his Marvel series LEGION, but that seemed to have been highly acclaimed.

Legion season 1 was great, the writing was very good.

Watching episode 2 of Alien Earth the rescue team of humans are ignoring a lot of red flags, I will stick with the show as don't mind the world building.

I don’t think the rescue team was expecting the ship to be infested with alien critters going about doing all sorts of carnage.

Yes I was wondering if they’d address that; I was curious whether it really is her or just a copy.
I thought the stuff about hormones etc. affecting a human’s moods and development was interesting, and I liked the childlike performances.

Enjoyed the first two episodes. Don't see the need for that many children in synthetic bodies - the show might have benefited from being leaner on the cast number front. The only drawback for me so far has been the pacing.

Intriguing, nonetheless. Looking forward to the third episode and beyond.

I think the number of kids is deliberate not only so they could sort of comprise as a group of “Lost Boys” but that some will add to the body count. I notice one or two don’t really get a lot of screen time at all. In fact, during that montage with the kids waking up in new bodies they deliberately skipped over one of the girls waking up. The show is already a bloodbath as it is, so I expect to see lots of white goo splatter.

Alien Earth episode 3 had some interesting scenes, I am getting Roy Batty vibes from Timothy Olyphant. They are trebling down on Peter Pan metaphor and it isn't subtle. I am struggling to like any of the characters, the cyborg is ok and at least had some character development.
